In America?
Our right wing is the war mongering, tax cutting, anti-immigrant crazies that make you cringe.
And our left wing is the military spending, tax cutting on all but the right, very good at deporting people who make you cringe less.
We don't have any major tax raising, marijuana legalizing, military spending cutting people that'd be liberal. It's the difference between conservative and what the ******** is wrong with these people conservative if you don't count third parties. Not so much because our left wing doesn't want to be left wing, but because the country is overall pretty crazy.

This entire thread is full of gross over-simplifications and generalisations, not unlike American politics as a whole. Liberalism has never been 'left-wing' in any strict sense. I wouldn't bother fighting over broad, meaningless terms like left and right in this day and age, especially not in the United States where the left in particular seems to essentially mean 'everything that doesn't belong to the Republican Party'. As far as I'm concerned, no classifications that can be used in one breath to articulate both socialist and liberal positions, or libertarian and fascist ones, can have any rational foundation or meaningful application.

For the record, conservatism is not the inverse of liberalism, but progressivism, and conservatives and liberals are often indistinguishable from one another. Liberalism is the dominant political philosophy of the modern world, and is in fact the status quo that conservatives seek to maintain, unless any of you are living in countries where feudal lords and monarchists still bear relevance.
