About being over qualified, I didnt think it was even possible until my bf tried to get a job at a place that needed a construction worker. My boyfriend was a construction worker in Virginia as a pipe fitter he was making 1000 dollars a week. The economy went bad after 9/11 and we had to move to Northcarolina (most ******** place of all time to get a job unless you are appart of a family that owns a business and they dont hire outside work, trust me ive tried...) Anyways long story short the guy said he was over qualified and he didnt want to pay him alot, so basically what he said is. "I can hire a pack of mexicans for cheaper then what I have to pay you"

That sucks about what happened to your boyfriend, and I'm sorry to hear that. I can attest to the "overqualified" thing, though.
I'm a prior service member of the US Army as a 25U (Signal Support Specialist - we establish Internet connections and radio communications and such). Anyways, I've applied at various McJobs (McDonalds and such) that constantly have the "Now Hiring" signs out front, but I don't even get so much as a phone call back saying they don't need me - it'd be great if I could at least get that much of a response back.
Apparently, I'm the first guy you call when you're having PC issues or can't figure out why you can't connect to the Internet, but apparently I'm too stupid to operate a deep fryer.

Or maybe McDonald's has something against hiring veterans - I don't know.

well hey see
he has a point on that

the benefits and opportunities provided by a college degree are becoming less and less prevalent because everyone and their dog has decided that college is the route for them

if everyone has a college degree no one will

someone has to dig our ditches
but at the same time we arent supporting infrastructure
there arent any ditches to dig
we have a society of overeducated walmart greeters

Infrastructure...

teachers, firefighters and police...

people who build/maintain our roads and bridges...

For many years it is known that some of our bridges are falling apart. Deaths have occurred. Yet the Senate and Congress for some reason don't wanna fork over some money to deal with them. And before anyone argues, it's been going on for more than ten years.

Infrastructure is an area of the jobs where you CANNOT outsource to other countries. These are jobs that are in, and stay in, America and are worked by Americans. Obama wants to put people to work in the infrastructure areas.
Question: if elected, will Republican Romney also want to do this?

i cant imagine it

as far as ive seen romneys platform supports immediate relief and benefits without focus on the long term so i cant imagine any focus being put towards repair, maintenance, and growth

sometimes i think thats what a lot of people like about romney
the promise of things being better for them and a rapid fix
instant gratification

the american populace has lost the perception of the future and the ability to cope with noninstantaneous fixes and rewards
the igeneration wants it now

Indeed. How many posts have we seen in this whole Forum that "Obama did not do anything. He had four years". And by the way, that was Romney's slogan last night. Romney parrots a lot of things including things Obama for many months said that "he (Romney) now wants". It was weird listening to that.
Anyway, no. It's gonna take a lot longer than this - and if we go back to what Bush was doing, who knows how long it will take. We need to either stay the course or get something better (which Obama has been planning on)

Obama's whole idea was based on the idea that the economy would get better, which unfortunately did not because of several factors that Obama has been forced to pay attention in order to place in stop-gap measures to keep things from tearing apart further. Wall Street is one of the big 'roadblocks' in all this. Now they and the Republicans are all upset over the new rules put in place to keep Wall Street from doing stupid risky things that almost busted this country's economy altogether. The banks are also at fault.
Then China tried to saturate our market with tires. Obama put a stop to that in order to try and save 1000 jobs here in America. Romney got on Obama's case about that saying that "standing up to China threatens America and jobs".
I asked before... WHOSE jobs? Where?
no we need more people in the OWS crying that they can't pay back school.

Yeah the same thing happened to me. I have no job qualifications though, ive never worked a day in my life. I am dyslexic and have ADD, I went to a special school for the mentally challenged when I was little because I could not read properly until the age of 14. I dropped out of school at the age of 16 because the special education program in my area was underfunded and I was having a very hard time with bullys and school work. It got to the point where I had just given up and slept threw most of my class. Everything they were teaching me was like a person not knowing a language trying to understand it and nobody even cared or helped me. When we were faced with financial crises when my boyfriend was layed off from his union job and never called back, I got the nerve up (because I am introvert and in real life I shake when im around people and am very emotional because of abuse) I actually applied to several jobs in my area that I thought I might beable to do. Jobs at gas stations, jobs at fast food like mcdonalds and burger king and wendies and arbies and sonic. Jobs as a cleaner. Nobody called me once. No response at all. It took two years for my boyfriend who was on work first and volunteering to get a job. It wasnt even in our area, its two hours away from our area, they said it was sheer luck that he got the job because it wasnt supposed to be in their files because it was in a different location.

Because, it's impossible to make money in life without a college education.

I could be wrong, but I doubt you need much education to work at a mint. Only a lot of trust.
