There was recently a panic in the UK after a parrot died in quarrantine and the source was suspected Bird Flu.

In the end it turned out to be something else, but the Idea of the UK populace pannicking over a Dead Parrot head me in stitches (The Entier Monty Python Crew are probably very happy with themselves)

There are people with chickens that live next door to me.
Then the neighbor across the street has ducks and geese in his pond.

It did transfer from person to person in '97, but it only killed a handful of people.

I raise show chickens. I have much more to fear from the alarmists than the actual flu. When Newcastle's Disease was the problem, they killed every domestic bird within a 1-mile radius from a bird that tested positive. They published no information in Spanish, so the cockfighters didn't know about it and took their clean birds to mains and picked it up from infected birds and brought it home. People with parrots would smuggle their birds out of state to save them from the death squads, and as parrots didn't show signs of the disease, sometimes the bird was indeed infected and would infect a new state. Ugh.

Chicken flu, as we all know is becomming a bigger issue to us. People are actually being effected by it and people are actually buying vaccines, so with any imminent danger comes the fun crazy people.
