Strengths Academically, Cat excels in Transfiguration and Charms. She enjoys their practical use for her somewhat secret aspirations of taking to the skies without a broom. However, she has no plans of completely abandoning a broom anytime soon. Quidditch, being her everything, is where her strongest skill set lies. She sees the next three plays before they even happen! However, those that know her well would probably say that her ability to be a friend is her strongest one yet. She's irrationally loyal, and would gladly sock anyone in the face if they dared to insult her, let alone her best friend. Thankfully, she's calmed down a bit with age and it doesn't just take a wrong look to set her off anymore.
Weaknesses Academically, Cat hates Potions, Runes and Divination. It's all a load of rubbish to her and should be saved for the doctors and the bookworms. In other terms, Cat isn't about that life, and it shows in her grades. If it weren't for the constant nagging of her best friend who is a bit more academically mindful than she is, Cat probably would not be taking all that many classes this year. What's more, her O.W.L.'s would have been dreadful. However, it's best not to really poke too many of Cat's buttons when it comes to things like academics and her appearance. She has a short fuse, that is prone to regular explosions.
Aspirations Cat, unfortunately, is not terribly driven academically. However, to be fair, she has good reason. Quidditch is her everything, and ironically enough, she has her brothers to thank for it. Their bullying when she was younger made her that much more determined to be good enough to play with them in the backyard. Little did she know that her talent wasn't the problem. It was just the fact that she was the little sister and infected with Coodies. Their relegating her to the position of beater helped her find her true talent. She was rotten at chasing anyways and had the temperament to slug the crap out of Bludger right into's Chris's face! After school, she hopes to be signed by a professional team. In the meantime, she's hoping to fly without the aid of a broom by becoming an animagus. It's taking must longer to pick up than she wants it to though which is why whether it's done legally or not, is another matter entirely.
Fears Having lost her mother at a young age, Cat's terrified by the prospect of losing more of her family or friends. Though she won't readily admit it, nor will you hear her crying about it at night in the dorms. More than anything though, she's afraid of failure. She's been fighting all her life to find her place whether it was at home, at school or on the pitch. When that final moment of judgment comes, will she be able to act to the best of her ability and seize the opportunity or will she crumble and be left with nothing? Lately though, none of that is really prevalent. Unfortunately, she's been thinking about this whole boy thing. She'd sworn it all off when she was three, but now she's not so sure and she feels pathetic for it! The idea of sharing feelings and getting gushy with anyone makes her sick, but well - there's this one guy...
Personality Cat, being the youngest of five children and four of them being boys, has always been a fighter. Many would actually call her a brute with a killer right hook, but it's not like she had any other options! The twins gave her hell, and she wasn't going to take it sitting down. This obviously formed a girl that was slightly rough around the edges. Everything about her personality before she came to school was tough to swallow, even with a spoonful of sugar to help it go down. With time and interaction with people that weren't constantly out to ruin her day, she mellowed out, marginally. Cat's sarcastic as hell and lives for delivering the perfect quip to shut someone up. She's abrasively honest too, so that quip will sting. If that doesn't work, expect a punch in the arm or maybe even a fist in the face. Mellow doesn't mean that she's forgotten how to fight, which is why you'll probably find her with a few scrapes or bruises.
Backstory Cat grew up in a perfectly magical household making nothing particularly out of the ordinary, except for maybe apple products. Her father, Michael Coombs, being the product of a healthy and fruitful pureblood line with minimal political interests, married a muggle born witch, Emma Fenessey. They were happy, both of their families were happy; it seemed like everything for them would be uneventfully normal. For thirteen years, it certainly was. Dylan, their eldest, was even tempered and kind. His placement in Hufflepuff, where he played Keeper for five years, was appreciated and admired. Peter, three years younger than Dylan, was very bookish and quiet. An obvious Ravenclaw, but a not so obvious Seeker. Whether the selection pool was weak those years he was in school or if their son was genuinely that good was beyond his parents. Patrick and Christian, seven years younger than Dylan, were terrors. Christian, the brains behind the operation, was the obvious instigator to Patrick, who simply tagged along and did as his brother commanded. Both were placed in Gryffindor where Chris was a chaser and Patrick was Keeper. If it wasn't already obvious, they were a family of Quidditch fans. It certainly wouldn't prove to be an exception for their "slight surprise" of a fifth child, Catherine or Kitty for short, who was 13 years younger than her oldest brother. Unfortunately, Cat was the first surprise of a series of surprises for the family that gradually became less and less pleasant. Emma, diagnosed with terminal cancer when Cat was one, only had three years with her daughter to impart in her all the wisdom she could. Her death hit the family hard, the boys more than Cat who was barely old enough to understand what a coffin was for, but Michael most of all. Fortunately, rather than turning into himself, he turned to his children and began to do everything possible for them. The boys were easy, but Cat not so much. He realized that he couldn't really take his daughter shopping for "unmentionables" or help his daughter deal with heartbreak over boys at school, but he never really had to. There are times where he blames himself for it, but there are other times where he views it as a blessing in disguise. A little girl that didn't need dolls or dresses? That was fine in his book! Keep those foreign things out of the house at all costs! Let her wear Chris and Pat's hand-me-downs! They could save money to go to a game instead! As a man, it was simple. He liked simple. However, as a father, he still couldn't help but wonder if he was hurting her in any way. She did have a pretty face... maybe she deserved a woman in her life that could teach her how to put on makeup or deal with boys, or maybe she just needed Hogwarts. When he put Cat on that train, Michael had no idea what would happen. She would love it, or hate it. People would love her, or she'd send them to the infirmary. After reading her countless letters and seeing her at Christmas that year, he somehow knew that everything for the next six years would be alright. She couldn't stop talking about a friend she'd made and a few boys she hated. She would be alright! As the years passed, his predictions held. Cat, against all odds, became a beautiful young woman that he couldn't believe was his own little girl that used to run around with a bat in one hand and a broom between her legs. It was just - unbelievable. He'd have to thank whoever had decided to sit her down and tell her what to wear one of these days...
