Theseus Odetta O'Rouke
"I don't have time for fears."
There was nothing but the soft pitter-patter of the rain at my windows to keep my mind occupied. My house was empty, vacant. It was only me in this house and I knew for the longest time It would remain only me. I sat by the window, just watching the rain tap against the glass and slowly trail down to the sill. The only thing that entertained my mind anymore was the rain. I had a tv, games, and books as most people did but I was not one to waste a perfectly rainy, and calmly lit night like this.My partner once told me that the fact I looked at the rain showed I was a little more gentle than how I acted at the station and that she wished I would act as calm as I normally do. I just enjoyed the rain, I have since I was five and I will continue to do so...I never thought it meant anything.
I went about my home shutting the curtains and locking my doors. I checked my house for any faults in security but found none. I preferred to be meticulous about it. I have been attacked at home before. Once everything was secure I went to bed and drifted off into a nice slumber. I was unaware of what I'd find the next morning and that I'd be without a partner...but yet I'd still gain a new one.
I woke early the next morning, the rain had stopped, and the sun was shinning which meant I would be hearing the morning ritual's of people once again. I slowly climbed out of my bed and to my closet where I put on my usual work clothes as well as my gun and badge. I didn't exactly have a life outside of work. I wasn't obsessed with my job or anything like a lot of people seemed to think Detectives were I was just....never good with people.
As I dressed my silent atmosphere was broken by the sound of my phone tapping against my wooden nightstand. I continued to tie my tie and slowly walked over before answers
"Hello? This is Theseus O'Rourke, what do you need?" I spoke into the small little plastic and metal device. One the other line was my chief but he sounded urgent.
"O'Rourke you need to come down here. There's something you need to see." his tone was grim and I could hear the hustle and bustle of basically the entire police office that were frantic. I finished up and rushed my way down to the station. They were just putting up yellow tape and road blocks by the time I get there.
"What happened?" I asked but all I get in response was a head motion that was past him. I moved him out of the way and saw my partner lying dead on the floor. I balled my hand into a fist as I surveyed the area. My partner wasn't a weakling and she always put up a fight but it looked like she went down without so much as a struggle and yet...the killer was brutal in his finishing. Most people couldn't stand to look at the carnage but I was mostly jaded. I leaned down
"Oh....Hina." I said and shook my head. I was doing my best to hide any emotion but this brought more pain to my heart. I stood up and the boss handed me a file.
I began to sift through it and found an interesting piece of information within the file that had been placed there this morning. I looked at it carefully as it held a bit of the girls information but the most important thing within the file was how she had predicted a murder like this one, but it seemed more like a nightmare then an actual prediction. She was also claiming to be psychic and do to this was labeled mentally unstable and sent off to the mental hospital. I didn't believe in that nonsense but it seemed her prediction came true. I needed to find her and quickly.
I looked at the chief and here was what he said:
"We already planned to bring her in."
I closed the folder and put it under my arm before heading to my car. I didn't explain what I was doing or where I was going but the chief probably knew. I speed off from the scene keeping my emotions in check for the most part as I rode to the mental hospital. I made my way inside and went up to the desk
"I need a girl here, she's claiming to be psychic." the woman at the front looked at me like I was nuts.
I somewhat slammed my hand on the counter
"I said I need a girl here, name's Olivia Johnson, crazy woman pretending she has incredible mental abilities." I was more forceful but this time the woman seemed to a look a little irritated
"Sir, no visitors allowed yet."
I pulled out my badge
"Detective O'Rouke, I'm here on police business." I started
"Go. Get. Her. Now." the woman instantly complied. I waited. It was time to speak to this girl and figure out her connection to this.
