It isn’t uncommon for families to end up fighting one another on impulse for something. Actually, it happens more than one would think. Especially when there are outsiders pushing and pulling matters, making things even more delicate than it already was. The aftermath never turns out favorable for either side. Usually the only ones satisfied are the the outsiders themselves or the victor.

Decades back two of the prominent families were undeniably close allies, so much so that they trusted each other completely; The Armani and D’Angelo considered one another dear friends. They helped each other in times of conflict and predicament. Time only allowed their bonds to strengthen.

Eventually, the two families were withdrawn to secrecy. Their actions gradually seemed to exponentially decrease, effectively becoming low-key. This was all due to a secret that formed between the two, one that must be kept unknown for the moment. Not wanting to risk anything, they became quiet. This only proved to capture the attention of outside families and organizations. Two families at the top of the food chain, what reason had they to withdraw themselves from any major activity? It was, at the very least, suspicious. Others tried to get anything out of their tight lips. It was futile.

The few Armani and D’Angelo members that knew of the secret were massacred during a meeting. Although all seemed lost, hope was passed on to the few survivors who missed attend the meeting. They opted to tell other trusted members who were obscurely affiliated with the families. Soon after their efforts, they went missing, all were concluded to be assassinated.

Because there was no one else to blame, they looked at each other. Their bonds were shattered. Each side pointed fingers at the other, accusing one another. The betrayal only lead to the fall out of the families. Neither could trust each other any longer, and so the misunderstanding developed further.

In the shadows and behind the backs of the families, a group (Acerbi) was conspired. Their origins and motifs remain unknown. Though the one thing that is known, is the fact that they are after the secret that the Armani and D’Angelo wanted to keep hidden. They want to have control and are willing to do whatever they can to achieve it.

Four generations afterwards, the Armani and D’Angelo families still exist but are no longer involved in the mafia. The new bosses are attending the same school, oblivious to the knowledge of anything related to the mafia affiliation. Respective guardians are long gone, and there will be the search to replace them. Once they do recover their prospective families, they will have to embark on a quest to discover and protect the secret from the affiliated people. However, these people won’t let a word slip by easily; there will be series of challenges and missions for each member to deem them worthy. At the same time, Acerbi is willing to do anything at this point to obtain the secret. Unlike Armani and D’Angelo, they are ruthless. If it meant blood to be shed, then so it’ll be.

It is but a race to beat the clock now.

  1. I will forgive minor grammatical things: such as proper punctuation for dialogue and mixing up commas and semicolons.
     
  2. if you have issues with spelling, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome all provide a spell check function free and automatically. Same with Microsoft word. Internet Explorer has a spell checker add-on, just google "Internet Explorer Spell checker"
     
  3. Re-read your post before you post it. Since this is a Literate to Advanced Literacy RP I am expecting little to no errors, so you need to re-read your posts to make sure they are as error free as possible
     
  4. If you are worried that you’ll fall behind if you write a long post, simply post that you are writing one and then go back and edit it with your actual post.
     
  5. Posts need to be at least 3 paragraphs. a paragraph tends to hold 5-7 sentences. a 3 sentence post is NOT acceptable. There must be enough for other people to respond to. I know there is writer's block, but try your best guys.
  
  
  
• No Godmoding. This includes but is not limited to: reading thoughts, traveling vast distances in the blink of an eye, avoiding every hit, landing hits (it's up to your opponent, the one who's being attacked), knowing the plans of the villains and finding them easily, never getting tired, being perfect, Power Playing, and moving other characters around without permission (which Must be given in the RP to count).
  
  1. What is Power Playing? It's making your character overly strong and powerful. (Sephiroth from Final Fantasy is a good example of a "power playing" character.)
  
  
  
• No clones, no Mary Sue's/Gary Stu's.
  
  1. What is a clone? A clone is a character that is Exactly like another character in personality, past or appearance. In extreme cases Clones will be a combination of all of these. Clones tell me you just don't care enough about the rp to make up your own character. So please don't send me a clone.
     
     
  2. Clones also include being unoriginal. Every child of Mukuro I have Ever seen has his hatred towards the mafia. get.over.it. Just because your Daddy is a jerk doesn't mean you are. In fact, with the whole teenage rebellion that occurs, you're more likely to be drawn towards the things that your parents hate. So do us all a favor and make up original characters. That have original personalities and quirks. Avoid cliches!!
     
  3. What is a Mary Sue's/Gary Stu's? a fictional character with overly idealized and hackneyed mannerisms, lacking noteworthy flaws, and primarily functioning as a wish-fulfilment fantasy for the author or reader. It is generally accepted as a character whose positive aspects overwhelm their other traits until they become one-dimensional. definition from Wikipedia
     
  4. There is a test that was created to help gauge if a character is a Sue or not. It's not perfect, but if you are worried it might help you get a ball-park idea. Or at least give you lists of things to try and avoid. Litmus Test Since this is an Advanced Literacy Role Play I expect everyone to be able to make a character that is Not a Sue or a Clone. For me, being able to make a good, three-dimensional character is part of being literate.
  
  
  
• Follow the Gaia TOS! Really, you'll be kicked off Gaia if you don't, so why break it?
  
  
• There will be no profile thread. This means that it's absolutely required that you create a test thread with your profile. There will however be an app thread where you will post your reserves. There's a five day time period that your reserve will be applicable. If the profile isn't in within this time period, it will be deleted and the spot will be opened. Send the link to the test thread to me or Flying Tea.
  
  
• Character Restrictions
  
  1. First! 3 characters per person. Period. No exceptions. It's great if you can play 6 characters actively. but in this RP the limit is three per person. That's it.
  
  
  
• No obnoxiously large pictures in your post. Keep them small so the page doesn’t stretch. Align them left or right. Modify them if you have to. It gets annoying having to scroll down before seeing any writing.
  
  1. If I ask you to change your picture, please comply without a fuss. If you need help editing a picture ask me and I'll happily help you out.
  
  
  
• Be ACTIVE. This means at least two posts per week; for each character you play. If you play 2 characters you have to make a minimum of 2 posts per week. one with each of them. If you only play one character you must post at least three times a week. There are no exceptions to this. If you can't make it, let me know in a PM and I'll add you to the arranged absences post. Please and thank you! If you consistently do not post you will get a PM from me reminding you to do so. If you still continue to be inactive...You will be removed from the RP.
  
  
• Stick with your profile! You must follow your character's personality as it is written in the profile. If you wish to change the personality you MUST PM me the changes and they must be approved before you can start acting that way. Also I will want a reason for the changes. Either "I can't play this current personality" or "since this is their past I think this personalty fits better." works with details. If you do not you will be removed after one warning. I know this seems like a strange rule but I've had issues with it in past.

From birth, it was decided that Rikuto would take over the Armani famiglia when he had become old enough. That said, it wasn't in his grandfather's intentions to have his grandson grow up in the life of a mafioso. Rikuto's father had left his mother at an early age and his grandfather came over to Japan to be the father figure that his grandson needed. It was here that Rikuto went through school and did all of his basic duties as the child of the house. Then, on the day of his seventeenth birthday, news had come to Rikuto's household that his grandfather had been killed in a car accident. He wasn't given the details and he didn't exactly want to be. He had lost the greatest father figure he ever had in his life. He had lost the only father figure he had in his life. But he would continue on, if not only for his grandfather but for his mother and so he could see himself grow into the man his grandfather wanted him to become.

Ko was raised into the mafia from his birth. His father being a famed mafioso, he was taken into the life of danger and risk from the very beginning and taught the ways that he must live in order to survive and thrive in this counter-culture. He has a very stern personality, trying to ensure that people stick to code and procedure no matter what it is that they're doing. Ko is very against going into action without a solid, well-formulated plan; doing so will cause him to have severe anxiety, often to the point of driving him to a panic attack. He usually holds a very calm and collected personality, and tries to be the voice of reason in most situations. If he happens to become irritated, however, he will tend to give someone the cold shoulder.

From the very beginning, Elrica always had to play the role model figure. She was the eldest sister of younger twin brothers. From the outside, her family seemed normal enough, but looks are always deceiving. Though she didn't know what exactly her father's occupation was, she knew that it was something dangerous. She was only nine years old when her father was pronounced dead. Her mother spiraled into depression – sitting around the house all day and staring outside the window as if she was waiting for her father's return. Elrica had to take up the role of keeping the home together by cooking and picking up her brothers after school. But curiosity eventually got the better of her and she started to search through her father's study. It was then that she learned about the mafioso. And as if it were a consequence for her snooping around, her mother was declared to have committed suicide soon after. That day she would never forget for the rest of her life, seeing her mother's limp body in the master bedroom. The very next day, she met her grandfather for the first time. But she was greeted with coldness. For years, she and her brothers would be cycle through relatives' houses – being abandoned when they lost their fresh, cute appeal. Throughout the ordeal, she never once lost hope; she needed to be strength her younger brothers didn't have. When she finally turned fourteen, her grandfather decided it was time for her to truly learn about their family. A year later, she was sent alone to Japan to live with a distant aunt and uncle.

Souta was the second son born to the Kazumi's, a small family who owned a series of shops in the town he was raised in. Growing up he had a lot of respect for his older brother Ryuuji, the boy was both a star soccer player and a straight A student. Despite all of the effort he had to put into those activities Ryuuji always somehow found time for his younger brother. However there was a lot of pressure from their parents for Souta to follow in Ryuuji's footsteps, and he tried his best to fulfill their expectations. He was never a starter on a sports teen but Souta always excelled when it came to grades and writing contests held by his school, which seemed to be enough to keep everyone happy and off of his back. When he was eleven, his father and Ryuuji went to go and get new sports gear while Souta opted out of the trip preferring to stay home and study for the upcoming math exam. Unfortunately they would never make it home, the official report saying his dad had become distracted and accidentally swerved into the lane divider. Both seeming to have died on impact. After that Souta threw himself into becoming better than he was more than ever simply because he wanted to live up to both Ryuuji's and his fathers hopes for him. But young boys can only stand so much and before long Souta was picking fights that he knew he could win thanks to the mediocre athletic training he received. It did not help that his mother refused to speak of her husband or son, throwing herself into work and removing all pictures of them from heavily trafficked areas of the home. Souta has since stocked it up to her grieving process and has yet to ever bring the touchy subject up with her. Years have passed and Souta has continued to get into scrapes often just to relieve the stress of school and maintaining his calm and together outer persona.

Born to serve and nothing else, Hachi's mother gave him his name because '8' was considered lucky in Japanese customs, and she wanted her son to have good fortune for the rest of his days. Unfortunately, it seemed like nothing could go right with Hachi from the moment he was born. Forced to be sold by his family because of money problems, he was reduced to a mere servant for a very influential family in the yakuza. He was a diligent boy, and he was quick to learn that as long as he obeyed, he would not be punished. From a simple errand boy to a full fledged butler, eventually he was gifted to a fellow Italian family to honor an alliance to the Japanese yakuza he was sold to. It seemed like his luck had finally turned around when the head of that Italian family started treating him like his own son, going as far as giving him the education and grooming him into what could be considered an heir or successor to the family line. He and his wife could not bare children, and the man was quite traditional in keeping to a monogamous relationship rather than find another woman to have his children for. Of course, Hachi had no way of knowing what capabilities he'd posses, but his new father seemed to have high hopes and plans for his future.

Alarik was the third brother born shortly before his younger sister was born, making her the last and youngest child of his immediate family. Him and his siblings treasured one another; they shared an intimate bond that was especially strengthened during his childhood. He cherished his close relationships with his siblings for it helped him when his parents weren’t as loving as they should have been. A few years ago, he finally discovered the reason his parents, or at the very least his father, didn’t seem to enjoy his presence much; he wasn’t his father’s son. His mother had an affair with another man years before Alarik was born. He eventually concluded that it wasn’t that his mother didn’t like or love him any less than his other siblings, but rather his mom felt ashamed of having him. And to say that he wasn’t bothered by this revelation would be a terrible lie, but what could he do? Well Alarik certainly wasn’t going to stay idle and do absolutely nothing. Around a year ago, he began his quest to find his biological father. For what reason? He has no idea; he just knew that he need to find his real father. Within less than a year, he was able to find his biological father with the help of his mother. After a few meet-ups with his biological father, Alarik gradually learned his father’s side of the story—as cliche and typical as it sounded—and his, Alarik’s and his real father’s, family’s involvement in the mafia.

Kichirou's never been the most active guy. Sure, he got some exercise from a swimming hobby, but most of his days are spent in front of a screen. For the longest time the only mention of the mafia he cared about was in stories and some of those lame a** enemies in video games. Neither of his parents seemed to know that Kichirou's grandmother was planning a revival of the D'Angelo famiglia. On his seventeenth birthday she slipped him a letter detailing her plans and that she wanted to name him the heir to D'Angelo's throne. It mentioned his potential, why she was so weird some times, and how to go about helping her with everything. Kichirou didn't tell his parents about it, or anyone else for that matter, but he's pretty sure his grandmother is absolutely insane.

Eika is used to being upstaged. As the second child of a yakuza boss who had always had strong ties with the D'Angelo family, her loyal and hardworking demeanor had constantly seemed to give her the edge over her lazy, estranged older brother, Hiroshi, for the throne. So fiercely loyal to her family, the other branches of the yakuza nicknamed Eika the empress, the sure successor to her father's fortune. Even so, when her father decided to retire and hand down his fortunes to his children, Eika's brother still inherited all of the Arakida family's wealth and left the so-called Empress in the dust. Jilted and disappointed, Eika considered leaving her family and swore to herself that she would never fall under someone else's command again, but of course, Hiroshi came crawling to Eika for financial help after the inheritance ceremony and Eika caved in. Despite her independent demeanor and sharp tongue, Eika was still undeniably true to her roots, yet the months of being the puppeteer behind her brother's figurehead role had been wearing down on her. She excused herself from her duties as the boss' second-in-command to go do a bit of soul searching, but really, she's gone for good - perhaps to find herself a real family and a real purpose. Eika is trustworthy - she's reliable and a quickshot with a bow and arrow; the storm never stops raging, after all.

Cal was only a newborn baby when he was sold by his family to the Lazzaris. They were poor, you see, and in dire need of money, with already half a dozen other children to feed, while the Lazzaris were rich and childless. The exchange was kept secret, and Cal was named as the legitimate son of Madame Lazzari herself. It was kept a secret from him most of all; Cal was not told of his true family, nor was he permitted to go out into the streets without bodyguards chosen by his parents. This sheltered life was not what Cal wanted, for he had always felt a calling to the streets. So unbeknownst to his parents, he would sneak out at night to wander, and it didn't take long for his birth mother to encounter him one day and recognize him immediately as her son. Feeling an instinctive pull towards her, Cal believed her, and seeing the state of his real family, he swore to bring them provisions whenever he could. However, he has not yet told his foster parents that he has known the truth, and continues to provide for his real family in the dark.

Raised in a financially struggling family, Zeno didn't have much of a chance to be a child. If anything, he lived it through his younger brother and sister, pampering them however he could, whenever he could. Wanting nothing more than to hurry and grow up so he could help out his parents, he wasn't stupid either. If he wanted a good job, he needed a good education. But once he was old enough, Zeno began working part time at whatever places would take him. At school, he's the one who fills the room with laughter, who doesn't stick out due to exemplary skills or talents, and really, has nothing special about him other than his smile. Behind it all though, is a glorious duck effect. Appearing to maintain decent grades with minimal effort and to be living comfortably, Zeno is truthfully working his a** off to make sure he doesn't fall behind. From late nights studying to sacrificed weekends working, he never lets on about his own troubles, always smiling and remaining carefree when he's with his friends.

Otome was raised by a single mother who's husband died during the first months of Otome's life. However that didn't stop her from being an extremely energetic and imaginative child. She was so out of hand that during her childhood she made her mother cry on numerous occasions just because she was too much to handle. So her dear mother sent her to live with her paternal grandparents. The old couple were a strict, no-nonsensical pair that ran a local dojo. Despite her new surroundings, Otome was just the same as very, however she did become more clever and often gave her grandparents riddles to think over in an attempt to distract them from punishing her. She grew up fairly normal, sometimes training with her grandparents and their students. While it was a lot of trial and error, mostly error, Otome did get a good grip and understanding for Judo. That helped to tire out her body, but her grandparents felt as if they needed to do more to tire out her brain. So they introduced her to astronomy, hoping that it would keep her busy enough. It did, also, work, but she kept her whole nonsensical side to her, deciding that "the best Otome, is the Otome with electric thoughts and starry movements!" As for school, well, she breezes by the best that she can but due to her off putting sensibility and her more than blunt personality, she tend to drive off anyone who tries to befriend the poor girl. In any case, she's not the type that allows herself to be bound by things she deems as boring. Currently, she's enjoying her life one day at a time and waiting for the next big adventure to come her way.

Those were the last words her mother spoke to her before mysteriously disappearing for forever. Flora had absolutely no idea what was going on, but she had no choice but to trust her mother's words. Born as an only child with no father and no explanation for his absence, Flora grew up following her mother's orders, following her so-called "destiny" without anything ever being explained to her. It wouldn't be until later on that she found out the reason why she was trained underneath a rather eccentric tutor during her younger years. Little did she know that her mother was affiliated with the mafia, and rather than protecting Flora in vain, she decided to prepare her daughter for the inevitable danger that was to come. Underneath her mother's harsh regimen, Flora had matured into a disciplined woman with a heart of steel. Although she obeyed her mother's instructions without question, there was one thing that threw her off. During her training, there was a passive emphasis on fighting not for protecting herself, but for protecting someone else. One could only imagine how many 'whys' and 'whos' floated around Flora's head, but all of those questions were about to be answered, one by one. It would only be time before her "destiny" would be revealed.

The young Mr. Braxen was well removed from his birth home and anything to do with the Mafia. We're talking filthy rich and half way across the world in the United States removed. After being adopted out as a wee child to the Braxen family, Michelangelo grew up an only child and heir to the family's fortune oblivious to any of lives little mysteries outside his own little world. Adaptable and outgoing, he's never settled on one passion above another and is constantly flitting between various things and people. Easy come and easy go, the only thing ever constant is his creativity and knack for believing that rules don't apply to him; often causing a bit of trouble. Such as the trouble that got him shipped overseas to Japan on a foreign exchange trip while his family dealt with the young Mr. Braxen's soon to be born illegitimate child. He's okay with this though as he's having a fantastic time with all the freedom. Don't let the carefree demeanor fool though, as the heir to the company of his, unknown to him, adopted family he's grown up trained to succeed at any cost.

With an innocent face, and a nurturing smile, you'd never think that Irelia would be one of the most prominent assassins in the underworld. Her marksmanship skills are without equal, whether it be something as elegant as a sniper or close quarter with dual pistols. Her aim is unmatched and unparalleled. It's probably because of these skills that made her a chosen Arcobaleno. Despite how deadly she is, she's simply a kind woman who was gifted with the talent to kill. Otherwise, she's a pleasant conversationalist, and motherly to the point of giving advice to people who are troubled. When she's not busy with her line of work, you can find her most of the time relaxing and enjoying various sweets and cakes as a guilty pleasure and even invite you to join her if you're not too busy. It's best if you stay on her good side though, as the minute you anger her, well, let's just say hell hath no fury like a woman's scorn, right?

Ansley doesn't take much of anything seriously, particularly since he was cursed. He's cursed to a young body (real young) so why not milk it for all it's worth? After playing the part of an adorable kid, he'll gladly steal from people, bite people, headbutt people, get people into trouble, anything that seems to suit him. There are only a few people that can wrangle him in, namely the other Acrobaleno and even then the chances are slim that he'll listen. He was chosen to be part of the Acrobaleno not so much for his assassin skills, but for his secrecy, sneaking, black market connections, and exchanging skills. Need info that can only be obtained in a high security prison? No problem. Want to plant some misleading evidence? Check. Sister-in-law not willing to give back that grand you loaned her? Seems she'll be coming up short a few expensive items. Ansley's the guy that knows a guy that knows a priest's dog that knows a carpenter that knows a guy if you know what I'm saying. He always expects to get paid and is never the kind of guy to do a "favor". He's slippery, misleading, easy to bribe, and likes to do things 100% his way.

It's been three weeks since the Armani and D'Angelo families had their new bosses picked and gathered up. The new bosses and their respective guardians have received their letters informing them of their new positions in the mafia world. They went through tedious training to get to know one another and have also been granted their very own set of rings and box weapons. Though they aren't exactly aware of how to open their boxes yet, new messages have been sent to both families. They both are to go to an old abandoned factory downtown. However, both are unaware of each other going there and are in fact due for a rather unpleasant surprise.

What is the minimum amount of posts per week?
tab I require two to three posts a week. The only exception is if you notify me or my partner Flying Tea prior to your inactivity.

What age range can the guardians be?
tab Guardians are going to be ranging from thirteen to eighteen. This is due to them being students.

How many RPC's can you have?
tab Three.

I have an idea for the rp, who do I contact?
tab You may contact me, and/or Flying Tea so we can elaborate on this idea.

How long are reserves valid for?
tab Reserves are valid for a time period of five days. You may request an extension/extention if you feel you won't be able to meet this prerequisite.

Would the NPC require it's own profile and reserve?
tab It's preferable so we'd know who they are and exactly what their purpose is in the roleplay, however if you would like to keep this a secret for whatever reason I will not require it. Otherwise, it's required.

Can a NPC be created to help mentoring?
tab The more the merrier I always say. It'd be ideal if this person had a flame but if not they'd still be just as effective.

Are we able to have RPCS with/without flames?
tab They won't exactly be in the action or what not but it will be allowed if you so desire.

Can a character be from the past/future?
tab No.

Can Guardians be Arcobaleno?
tab Arcobaleno can indeed be Guardians, however, because the Arcobaleno are considered to be the strongest of their time, there are certain limits we'll place on them to prevent them from being overpowered.

Can a Guardian be a pair of twins?
tab There can be a pair of twins for guardian, but there's one exception to this. They can't both be able to battle at the same time if they're both well bodied fighters. If there's an exception where they both need to be together to use their full power then all power to you. To keep things fair however this rule will stand for twin guardians.

Do Arcobaleno have to mentor?
tab We'll choose out of the arcobaleno which are going to be mentoring and which will not be mentoring. If you are asked to mentor, keep in mind that you will be allowed to deny the request.

What time frame will the roleplay be held in?
tab The roleplay will take part in the "future" of the true anime/manga. This means that box weapons are indeed around and will be available to use. However, for the sake of keeping things concise and to ensure that we get some progression, cambio forme will be saved for a later date.

Can a guardian // Arcobaleno become a villain at a later date?
tab I'll allow Arcobaleno to be evil at the start but I will not allow Guardians to become villains unless they have a good, and I mean good, reason to defect to the side of evil.

Do Arcobaleno have animal pets, their own rings and box weapons?
tab Yes

What & Where will the Arcobaleno be staying and // or doing prior to mentoring? [if applicable]
tab They will be staying with the new bosses and their family. Their duty is to teach the new boss of their responsibility and to ensure the guardians are suitably growing to protect the boss.

Under what conditions can an Arcobaleno return to it's true form?
tab The condition is that they must be in a life or death situation and/or if they need to protect something.
