xxxRinzen nodded to Feiyan, "Until tomorrow." He offered a smile, though inside he was weary of his meeting with the Fire Lord. Without a backward glance, Rinzen and Shin made their way back to the docks to catch a small boat to the island. Rinzen's thoughts were on the problem Feiyan presented to him and not on his surroundings, so it was not until the boat rocked against the Air Temple's docks that he realized they were already back. He thanked the boatman and turned to head up to the temple, only to see someone fly off. Rinzen frowned, his eyes narrowing as the figure flew farther off, 'Who is that?' Rinzen did not know of a single airbender who could fly, other than - 'Zaheer?! No, Avatar Korra took care of him.' Rinzen forced himself to remain calm, "Come on, Shin. Let's see if anyone saw our mysterious flyer." Shin yipped and clung a bit tighter to Rinzen's shoulders. With a burst of air, Rinzen began to leap from outcrop to outcrop until he arrived on the landing - that particular entrance was always his favorite.

xxxWhen Rinzen landed, Shin slid down his form and darted toward a young woman with Earth Kingdom clothing; jumping up and begging to be petted, 'She looks vaguely familiar... Ah! She was the young girl that pro-bender was helping.' Rinzen smiled his trademark kind smile and approached the young girl, "Shin. Don't jump on her. She doesn't know you." Shin gave a sound that sounded like a sneeze, but definitely meant "Yeah, right. I'm ignoring you." He continued to rub against the girl's legs and Rinzen shook his head. "I apologize for him, miss. Shin isn't normally this friendly. He is, however, a wonderful judge of character - so you must be something very special." Rinzen pulled out a bit of jerky he had in his pocket to distract his spirit friend. Shin bounced away with the jerky in his mouth, very content - for the moment - and Rizen offered a small bow to the young woman, "Welcome to Air Temple Island. I am Master Rinzen Yeshe. How may I help you?" Rinzen would make sure she was helped before focusing on his mysterious flyer, as well as the situation with the Fire Lord.

Victory at all costs; smoke and flame in my wake.

When Fei returned through the portal, she did so alone, Zaskar found after turning around. His eyes flicked from her to the portal behind her and back again. Master Rinzen was not with her, yet Zaskar had a feeling he was not dead either. Fei proceeded to explain where Rinzen was now as well as arrangements, supplies, and preparations. In this, Zaskar heard nothing related to the instructions he had given. He glared at his sister, irritated but wanting to confirm what she was implying before reacting extremely. "He is gone?" Zaskar asked which led to his next question. "You did not burn him?" Such was clearly the case, if Rinzen had left the portal then he was obviously still alive. "Then he must have what I want," Zaskar deduced. It was all very simple in his head. Ask can he get them inside the library. If yes, bring him into the portal and continue the journey. If not, kill him for interfering and continue the journey. However, something wasn't adding up. No matter how Zaskar approached it, there was a failure on Fei's part. Either Rinzen had nothing but was still alive, or he was useful and had not been brought into the portal.

"If he has what I want, then why is he not standing before me?!" Zaskar growled, blistering rage escaping into his heart. Zaskar took a step forward and grabbed Fei by the hand. His grip tightened and he pulled his sister closer to him, staring darkly into her eyes. "To hell with his temple," Zaskar said through gritted teeth, seething as a sudden heat erupted from the palm of his hand and he held onto Fei angrily. Flame and smoke followed, tongues of fire spreading and burning his sister about her hand and wrist. "I will turn him and his island to ash!" The Fire Lord was trembling with fury until he finally released his sister, dropped her hand and stepped away. "Your high regard of him only looks ill of you." She had come telling Zaskar of the Air master and his business as if he cared about the concerns of the air people. The Fire Lord dependent upon the whim of a cretinous fool? What an outrage!

Zaskar was not one for peace; he took what he wanted and had told his sister to do just as much. Alas, she seemed incapable of such things. "I will never think of you as weak, sister," Zaskar began, his fire becoming steady once more. "But it has been long since I witnessed your strength." It was odd, for a nation of fire, Zaskar was so cold, merciless, and unfeeling and expected the rest of his charge to be so as well. He looked at Fei with a plain face. She had failed here but his true anger was for Rinzen, who thought he had the option of refusing a Fire Nation demand. No, he would burn, as would his people. But first, the library of all knowledge awaited and this would be Zaskar's final delay. "You should leave as well. Take the soldiers with you," Zaskar said to his sister. Perhaps she would inform the council of what was to come or seek or a leisure activity of some kind. It mattered little, as everything did in comparison to endless secrets. "I shall scour the spirit world alone."

User ImagexxxxxxxxxxFei watched her brother's display and felt her anger burn. She was loyal, she was his family. She would burn for him if he asked of it, but she was her own person. She had been beneath her family's thumb for her entire life. She had felt freedom in Republic City, she had felt what it meant to be herself. And she could be ruthless, as she was bred to be, but she could be kind, and she had made friends here. She had found the joy that friendship could bring, especially when as a child she had been lucky to make a friend, and the only people she had been close to had been her servants. Servants were not friends, they feared her, they ran from her father. They were there because they had been ordered to, and that was not friendship. She watched her brother throw a fit, as he always did when he didn't get his way. She was his true and loyal sister, but she had her temper, as they all did. She felt her inner fire burn, and burn, and burn, consuming her.

xxxxxxxxxxThey had had a strange relationship as children. She had been raised to be his servant, and therefore to defer to him, and so she had. But she had also been raised to be a strong woman, as a noble should be. And she had been his sister, she would cry to him one second to fix her toy dragon, and the other she would pull his hair, much to the fury of her father. She had bickered with him, as any siblings would, and had learnt that one did not bicker with their lord. But still, it was a conflict within Fei. That her brother did not trust her to complete such a simple task made her angry. And that he wrapped her and threatened her made her even angrier. And then, the heat spewed from his hands as he intended to burn her. Her rage overflowed, spilling out of her in hot waves of flame. The flame spewed from her mouth as she screamed at him. "Have I not done as you have commanded, my Lord!?" She spoke the 'my Lord' sarcastically, as he seemed to her to be acting as childish as he had the day they had first met. She twisted her arms inwards and pulled up, releasing his hold of her and ignoring the burn that spread up her arm. She had been burnt before, many times in fact, and many times by her own father. She spewed fire as she spoke and spread her legs wide, dropping her body lower, her body prepared for a fight, although she would not start it. They had sparred many times, but she had often brawled with him too. It was not a fight to kill, just one to bruise and to release her anger. It flowed from her and she felt her feet burn as she stepped backwards and then began to pace towards him angrily, the ground burning around her feet. "You have not changed brother. You do not have what you want immediately and so throw a tantrum." She hissed, and more of her red hair fell from the tight knot on her head to stick out from her face, giving her a slightly hysterical look.

xxxxxxxxxx"I ordered the Master Rinzen to return to his temple and to make preparations for our immediate departure. I informed him that the Fire Lord had demanded his aid and that he would escort us to the Library's door." She growled, feeling the steam drip from her skin as though coming through her pores. "I am sorry that he is not able to escort us without provisions. I was unaware that you had grown the ability to not have to eat, brother. Or sleep, for that matter! I was also unaware that you knew anything AT ALL about the Spirit World, but apparently as you are so knowledgeable then you have no need for me or Master Rinzen anyway." She flung her arms out wide, as if to take in the world around them, and sparks of electricity flew from her fingers. The spirits surrounding them had stopped to watch the spectacle or darted away to hide from the flames. "I am not WEAK, brother. I am WISE. As any adviser should be." The air crackled as if to illustrate her point. If it had been anyone else, she would have flung herself at them full force, but she would not hurt her brother. He would burn her and he could kill her, but the most she had done would be to bruise him and that was all before he had become her Lord. Since he had become Lord, touching him was something she had never done in anger but at that moment she felt she could be persuaded to do so. Her eyes burned as she glared at him, her face twisted in anger. "As you wish it, brother. Alone." She bowed to him and sighed, feeling her anger burn down to ash, her face filling with misery. "It is all we have been raised to be."

Jo was relieved to see Usha standing, she would recover just fine. However, as she stood, and now not worried about her recover, he finally realized what he'd been doing and what the result of urzon's attack had done beside the wound. The long skirting Usha wore had a long slit running down the side of where she'd been cut, showing a lot of leg. Jo's face colored slightly, which he hid with a slight side wards glance. Now that he was aware of it, looking at Usha, she is very beautiful. Usha's response was met with a nod "Thats good. Though it still concerns me. Please be careful." he spoke, looking up to her and offering her a soft smile.

Looking over to Yuan as he complimented him on the storms, he shrugged, thinking the same as Yuan. But then usha came back again with an offer of becoming their team's sponsor. is eyes widened slightly, and a smile overtaking his lips. Yuan was the first to respond, and though jo would like to accept just as much, what yuan said made sense. However, from what he knew of Jian, he could likely predict where she was at. That would also provide him an additional opportunity to help usha. "By this time, I assume Jian is at the arena training. We could check in with her to decide this as a team and give our reply. Personally, I'd be much happier to have you as our sponsor." he stated, looking to usha then to yuan. Then he remebered something and pulled a few coins from his robe, where he stepped forward and placed them into Usha's hands. "Haven't paid for my tea yet." He smiled sheepishly.

Victory at all costs; smoke and flame in my wake.

"Do not feign ignorance, Fei!" Zaskar screamed. "You know you have failed." Otherwise he would not have punished her. Zaskar was nothing if not just. He sneered when she pulled away and began to firebend. A new wave of anger cut through him as she displayed her powers and prepared to protect herself or even attack him. The disrespect! If Zaskar intended to kill his sister he expected her to lay down and die, not resist. None were to resist the Fire Lord! He did not, but even the idea of her opposition was immensely infuriating. "How insulting," Zaskar growled, a shroud of fiery smoke rising around him. Through the burning, black haze he glared into his sister. "Where was this strength when you spoke to that cur?" he asked, honestly wondering. It seemed backwards to humbly make a mistake and then passionately defend said failure. Perhaps her current anger was just as misplaced as the reverence she held for Rinzen. "You summon flame to defend yourself but not in the service of your nation?" How selfish! It was bordering on traitorous even. "Of all people, you should know much of loyalty," Zaskar said, his wicked black aura spreading into the spirit world like a plague of smoke and ash.

Zaskar eyes calmed eventually and so did his aura. "I have harvested fire, sister," he confessed to her. She spoke of being unaware as if such things were impossible. They were in most cases, as all humans needed food and sleep. All except Zaskar. "Lesser flames were weakened to strengthen my own," he said. "Asanti was the first, but I took from others as well." He was not infinitely strong, but his power and his stamina were far beyond the average. This combined with his insane determination led him to continuing even beyond the point of exhaustion. "I can survive where none else can." Zaskar told her. The signs had been there all along, this was only the revelation. "I will burn until my limits and even then I will smolder." Such was the nature of smoke and ash, they would persist even after the fire had died. Neither fatigue, hunger, nor pain would stop his efforts. Slow him, perhaps, but only death would be his end. "Victory at all costs." Zaskar walked away into the blinding horizon of the spirit world and did not look back, his form vanishing into the distant wall of light.

While the young Jian trained, a figure was leaning against the doorway and watching her with apparently keen interest. How long had the figure been there? That much would have been hard to determine, since this was a private session and there probably should have been someone who would have stopped the man from entering this far into the tournaments grounds. Of course, nobody knew who the man was by his face, unless the made quick connections with rumors and deformities, which hardly ever happened. The janitor had, which had been unfortunate, but Reshi had learned in his years of experience that for some strange universal reason, there was always an incredibly smart janitor in every story. Unfortunately, however, the realization to the man of who Reshi was, whenever he was discovered limping down the hallway, was a little too late.

What was left of the nice elderly gentleman was currently occupying some wonderful closet space under the stairs. Normally, he didn't take the time to murder the help, it was considered bad form, but the Janitor had been quite the accomplished water bender. While his public legacy would be the body found in the storage closet under the stairs, Reshi would always remember the quiet, inquisitive man, who had tried to use blood bending on him, before being beaten to death very quietly in a lonely little hallway with just the two of them. It was a romantic kind of story, which would never be read. Now, was he here to do something of similar nature to the fetching young woman currently venting her frustrations in every single precise movement? Of course not. While she was guilty in Reshi's lightning yellow eyes, her moment of execution had yet to ring out in his mind. For now, he was just enjoying a little show with a little plan floating around in the madness that was his mind.

"Yer' technique is sloppy." A voice thick with the northern accent of the seas rang out in the training room, which naturally led back to Reshi's mouth, which in turn resulted in the noticing of his figure leaning in the doorway. A heavy, thick coat hung from his shoulders around a seemingly gaunt, hunched frame which was hidden by the lazily buttoned white shirt hanging from his frame. A red sash wound tightly around his waist which led to a pair of rather distastefully baggy pants that the prior mentioned sash was doing its best to keep up. The legs of his pants finally ended, tucked into a pair of rather tastefully selected boots, if they had been on anyone else.

As he stepped into the room, Reshi leaned against a curiously shaped staff, ending in the thick golden handle of a cutlass. In fact, it was clearly evident that he was walking with the assistant of an almost comically long sword, but his stance and manner suggested that he had no idea how to actually wield the thing. "Ye'fight as though yer' expectin' ye' enemy ta' hit ya." Clunk, Thunk, Clunk, Thunk. Each of his steps was highlighted by the heavy fall of his staff as he moved toward Jien with an amused grin crossing his stubbled jaw. "I heard ye' were da' best, so I slipped in ta' see fer' myself." The yellow eyes looked up and down Jien's figure and the grin widened, "I clearly was'not mistaken, but is'not like ye' av' much ta' compete with, neh?"

With the tournament coming up and more and more scrutiny on her team by the media Jian was training more then ever. Some might say to the point of obsession, but who really cared as long as it meant she won? After that run in with the lost Lana she had gone right back to it, telling herself she'd find Fei another time and talk over their options. She'd been at it for only about another hour but her skin was already glistening with sweat, the burn of both her fire and her muscles working together to heat every last inch of her body. She was tired but had to keep going. It wasn't rare for a game to be over in minutes but it was possible for them to draw out for hours too, and she wanted to keep up her endurance if any of the Blazing Badgermoles' opponents turned out to be better then suspected. Jian still thought there was no chance of them loosing, but she also wanted to be prepared in case anyone was a bit of a challenge.

She had just thrown a particularly good kick when a voice rang out, critical and cranky, and she turned to see an old man lurking in the door way to her practice room. She was really going to have to have a word with the head of security for this place. It was like they'd all been off on vacation and anyone who liked could just waltz in. It was almost annoying. Just like the man's comment had been. She'd been accused of being many things during her time in pro-bending, but sloppy was never one of them. "Excuse you?" she asked sharply with the raise of a single brow. She was giving the man a chance to back out now before she showed him just how precise her technique could be.

As he walked forward, out of the dim shadows of the hall, she saw more of the visitor, and there was a lot to be seen. He was large, not as much as Tycho, but enough to be threatening, long scars ran across his face, and he leaned on what no one could mistake for anything other then a giant sword. Had she been any less of a fighter Jian would have taken a step back out of instinct, but she was stubborn and stood her ground, refusing to be intimidated by a random stranger, but her fists were still clenched like she wasn't done throwing punches and her stance read as it usually did while she walked down the street: "Back off!" Mostly though this was because she was still in training mode and one old man wasn't going to stop her.

He continued talking in a manner that was almost hard to understand, his voice strained with an accent she couldn't place and his words phrased like someone who commonly hid second meanings under the first. But if there was one Jian wasn't smart enough to pick it out. So she just stood there, tucking a few strands of powder-white hair behind her ears and listening, wondering where he came from. She smirked when he called her the best. "Well, I can't say you're wrong." she countered when he'd finished. She was the best, and it was about time someone else knew it. "At least about that last part." she added quickly, refusing to even sound like she was admitting her style left any room for criticism. She crossed her arms in front of her chest and kind of stared at him for a moment. "Seriously, how did he get in here?" "Now as much as I enjoy the compliment you're not allowed to be back here. This area is for pro-benders and trainers only. Let me show you the door." she said firmly while gesturing towards the exit. She didn't really wanting to leave her training but she certain didn't trust him to leave on his own either. Yep, security was definitely going to have an ear-full from her.

xxxUsha smiled at the boys' replies to her offer - particularly Jo's; though that was probably because of how he phrased it. She understood their wanting to include the last member of their team and was more than willing to allow it, "That's fine. How about this? You two talk to your teammate and I'll see you at the match tonight. You can let me know if your team has decided then. No rush, of course." Usha was sure that the teams would not need sponsors until the first round of fighting was complete - though she hoped she'd have an answer before then. When Jo placed coins in her hand, it was only his reasoning that kept a blush from forming - 'Get a hold of yourself!'. She raised an eyebrow and held out her hand to return the coins, "You help me during the fight and bandage my leg and you expect me to let you pay for your tea?" She smiled, "Consider the tea part of my thanks." She glanced at Tycho, "You too, Mountain. You've both helped out so much. Besides, what kind of patron would I be if I didn't let you have free tea occasionally." Her smile shifted to one she would give a friend while sharing a secret.

xxxShe allowed herself to really look around the room. 'I've got my work cut out for me...' As the customers meandered out of the store, Usha noticed Ichigo, "Ichigo, take the rest of the week off. Enjoy the pro-bending matches and rest up, alright?" Ichigo nodded and left with the rest - a little too shook up to worry about his injured boss. Usha tapped her chin, speaking aloud, more to herself than Jo or Tycho - not that she would care if they commented - "I'll have to order new windows... And redo some of the murals... Might as well design new ones... Hmmm... " She glanced back at them, "As the team I am potentially sponsoring, any ideas for the new murals? Or were the old ones fine?" It would take more than a week to do new murals, but Usha was always up for a creative challenge.

When tea becomes ritual, it takes its place at the heart of our ability to see greatness in small things. Where is beauty to be found? In great things that, like everything else, are doomed to die, or in small things that aspire to nothing, yet know how to set a jewel of infinity in a single moment?

"Pro benders?" Reshi put a specific emphasis on the word 'bender', his sly grin still dancing on his lips as he stopped only a few feet away from the fire bender. Leaning heavily against the sheath of the long blade, he tilted his head curiously to the side and chuckled. It was a low grunt of a sound, barely audible with a slight shake of one shoulder, "I'm lackin' even as a regular bender, m'lass." He shot a closed fist forward stopping it in the air in front of him, staring expectantly at his knuckles for a moment. When no fire burst first to incinerate the young woman sharing the room with him, he opened his hand and made an 'Oh well?' gesture with the raising of a singular shoulder.

"As fer' a trainer, why do ya' think I'm back here? Ain't never been a student of mine ta' get hit by sometin' as clumsy as bending." Reshi gave her the mysterious, roguish grin of his again. Out of all of the things that one could call Reshi Ishirin, a liar was not one of them. He valued the truth rather highly, preferring to only speak in honesty. That being said, what he was being honest about was an entirely different matter. Most individuals didn't notice the way he danced around a conversation but this lass, oh, she was a smart one, wasn't she? "I was hopin' fer another pupil, one with a name dat' could spread the word of my teachin'," Reaching into the thick fabric of his coat, Reshi withdrew a small flask, taking a drag before continuing with a slight slur.

"Bendin' will always be weaker' ta' traditional styles, all yer' moves are obvious, easy ta' read for those who know da' words." The leader of the Equalist movement of Republic City chuckled as he turned, making it evident that yes, there was the exit right there and no, I'm not going to be using it for quite some time. Limping past her, he stopped in the open air where she had been training and leaned on his staff again, teeth gleaming his grin. "Care if ah' demostrate? " Popping the lid off of his flask again, Reshi tilted his head back as he drained the dented little tin, letting out a satisfied gasp before shaking his head slightly, "All ya' gotta do is hit me, if ya' find ye'can't, then maybe I can teach ya' a thing or two bout' yer' own bendin' ya' didn't know, eh?" When he let go of the staff, it remained standing solidly as Reshi stepped away from it, favoring his right leg as he limped a little to the side. Holding one palm outward, he curled his fingers slightly as his other hand rested against a muscled forearm.

Reshi wasn't particularly bulging with muscle mass, he was like cabled steel. Lean, hard, and wiry with energy coursing through each controlled deliberate movement. It wasn't anywhere in his plan to hurt the girl, he'd only result to drastic measures if she deliberately got out of control. She had such a lovely face after all and he found it to be tragic to destroy such a work of art without any just cause. As he leaned back, he kept his vibrant eyes on Jian, keeping the slight ghost of a smile on his lips, he had to earn himself a new pupil and it was his every intent to succeed.

xxxxxxxxxxLana turned to watch the entrance to the temple, wary that the man may try to follow her. She was glad he didn't. It was strange for people to become so suspicious for her. She supposed it had been some time now since the last Avatar and people were getting suspicious of everyone, she would have to be more careful if she wanted it to be kept quiet. She was not ready to be the Avatar, the Avatar killed people and she was certainly not able to do that. Lana jumped when a small fox spirit darted towards her and began to jump up on her. She laughed and scratched his ears, petting him where ever he demanded it. Shiji leapt to her shoulder and began to squeak angrily, throwing nuts at the spirit and hoping to ward him away. "Dont be so jealous Shiji...." Lana laughed as the spirit rubbed her legs. She looked up at the sound of the voice to see an older man, apparently the spirit's companion. "Oh, it's fine, he's lovely." She smiled and bent her knees to squat down so she could look at him better. She hadn't seen many spirits this close, she had definitely come to the right man.

xxxxxxxxxx"What a handsome boy." She cooed until the spirit ran back for apiece of jerky, at which point she straightened herself and rubbed Shiji's head in apology before turning her attention back to the air bender. He bowed to her, and introduced himself. He was the master, as she had suspected. It would be unusual if there were more than two people in the same temple with spirit companions. She bowed respectfully in return. "Master Rinzen? I'm Lana, from the Earth Kingdom. I've come to learn Air bending." She spoke calmly and looked him straight in the face. "I would rather it were done discreetly. I have been told you are a good man so I know you will honour my wishes. I think I'm sort of the Avatar." She sighed and shrugged her shoulders. She knew she wasn't much, but she needed the random air bending to stop if she were to conceal herself. If anyone asked her to prove it whom she did not want to know, she would be able to fake being just Lana the Earthbender, she knew how to be her.

So the guy wasn't a bender, so what? If anything that meant he shouldn't be back here even more. He would never be in the world of pro-bender (unless he wanted to be an announcer, which she highly doubted) and he could get hurt if he were walking down the hall at the wrong time and someone became careless with their practice. That's why these rules were in place, only pro-benders and trainers allowed! And she wasn't buying that he was a trainer either, maybe of non-benders, sure, but what use was he to her? Even regular trainers got on her nerves, she hardly wanted to sit around and listen to another one drone on and on about the importance of patience with the added affect that he didn't seem to think very highly of the sport. "'Clumsy bending.' If you think you're so above it, why are you here?" she honestly just wanted him to leave, but at the same time he was interesting and made the fire bender feel wary.

Maybe this was all part of his pitch, she had to admit it definitely made her curious side want to come out and play, but he was selling to the wrong person. Especially since he kept calling bending weak. She had half a mind to just heat up the metal of his walking stick until it burned to the touch, but that would probably just keep him here longer and that was the opposite of progress. And now he wanted to demonstrate what? That bending was inferior? Now he had it coming. She didn't care what the cocky old man thought he could teach her, he was giving her a full invitation to strike him down a notch and she intended to take it. As he stood there, sure of his ways she planted her feet, looked him over one last time and waited for the opportune moment. A beat passed, then another, both of them silent and still, save for the movement their breath made of their chests. Another beat. And then she struck. Throwing one arm towards his left and the other quickly to his right after Jian sent two long licks of fire to either side of him, leaving no room to dodge to the side and avoid her third blast, a ball springing from her pointed foot and headed straight for his stomach. Unless he fell in fear, as most would facing a large ball of flames, or had unnerving speed for his age, he would not be able to move in time to keep himself from a burn.

When Jian released her first volley, Reshi had a split second to grin at the ferocity of her assault. Yes, she was a no nonsense kind of girl, no room for mercy or trying to get a feel for her opponent. This Firebender went straight for the kill, she was perfect. Standing stock still as the searing heat roared past him on both sides, The Equalist did indeed fall back when the orb of incandescent heat rocketed for from her heel, but too early. Moving backwards, his palms touched the cement for a split second and suddenly he was airborne, body twisting over the flames as they tore through the air beneath him. Spinning once, Reshi landed and simple adopted his prior pose, raising an eyebrow at Jian. His position hadn't had changed at all from he had been originally standing, his sword balancing on its iron end still remained in the same position to the left of him. "Ready fer' me? "

When Reshi moved forward, it was a low kind of run that could have easily resembled a wolf. His boots sparked as he changed direction suddenly under the flurry of Jien's assault, fire crackling past him as he closed the gap between them. When he was within arms reach, his hands became a blur. For every attempt at bending in his direction, one of Reshi's hands was already there, pushing her aim slightly off. Each of his movements was precise, calculated and seemingly on step ahead of the fire bender. That was when the kick came, The Equalist leader turned his head as her leg shot by his face and he almost laughed at loud. Yes! If bending wasn't working, she was actually changing her tactics. If only had she any idea how this would have saved her life in the hands of Chi Blockers. A left hook shot around and Reshi slammed his forearm against her wrist to turn the blow away and thrust out with his palm, sending them both skidding back away from each other.

Raising his palm upward, he adopted his stance and gave her a satisfied smile,
"Vary' good. " He hadn't made any offensive movements yet, but he wasn't really fighting. Just toying with her for the time being. Reshi had killed hundreds of bending masters in his time, he was designed to break and brutalize the best of them. Air nomads, Fire Lords, Water Chiefs, Earth Kings, he had seen them all, though few ever required him to actually draw his blade, that was only for the special cases. If all went well, however, Jian would be willing to learn his style. If she was able to defeat pro-benders in the tournament, using his methods, it would be a wonderful tactic for rallying support down the line. Besides, he liked this girl, she had a spunk he hadn't seen in a long time. "Yeh' av' moxxy, kid. " Reshi's yellow eyes narrowed as Jien moved toward him, refusing to be distracted by mere wordplay. Letting out a slight chuckle, Reshi shrugged with one shoulder, loosening his muscles in his right arm, "Ya' wanna' know what it is dat' allows us non-benders ta' even defeat da' highest caliber of bending? "

Reshi's form suddenly blurred as he dashed forward, closing the distance between the two in an heartbeat, their eyes locked as he spoke again, "We av' only ourselves ta' depend on. " Jian lashed out into the empty air where he had once been standing, and a forearm slammed downward into the back of her neck. Well, it would have had she been only a fraction slower, the strength of the block even surprised Reshi for a moment and he kicked backwards as she let out a grunt and fire suddenly surrounded her form in a brief flash of heat. When the heel of his boot touched the floor, the girl was suddenly on the offensive, sending a jab to his midesection and falling into a sweeping arc with her leg. The Equalist turned with a loud, hoarse laugh as he fell away from the first attack, feeling his copper hair singe as the bright light barely brushed his cheek.

With both hands on the ground, he pushed backwards, over the crescent of fire and his feet collided with Jian's midsection. She had over anticipated Reshi's agility and had been expecting a dodge instead of a sudden offense and his legs kicked forward, sending her bouncing across the training room as Reshi landed lightly on his feet. Jian was already getting back to her feet when he raised a hand and shook his head, still chuckling, "Nuff', These ol' bones can't take much more of yer' rough play, lassie. " He gripped the iron sheathe of his blade and leaned on it, limping back towards her with a quirky little grin as he produced a card from the depths of his coat, offering it to her. It said:

R.I.

West Docks, North Side. Warehouse district. Building 4.

"Use what yeh' learned here in yer' game tonight. If ya' like what happens, ya' can reach me at dis' address. " He flipped the card to her, sending it spiraling with the flick of a thumb in her direction, before raising a hand as he staggered towards the exit, still chuckling amiably to himself, "I'll be watchin' tonight, heh. "

    EMPTY AND BECOME WIND

The flight had proven a bit tedious and Vayu was relieved to see a place to land. This was home-- the place he had abandoned long ago. The place that he ran from because of-- Some foolish dream? No, Vayu had pursued his ambitions and clearly, that hadn't ended well. Golden eyes scanned the area, a sigh escaping the bender as he pulled up his hood. Of course, he couldn't be sure who would or wouldn't recognize him and to be spotted by anyone dangerous was a risk that he couldn't afford. Not now. Vayu's flight had drained him of most of his energy and his small chance meeting with Lana hadn't necessarily been helpful.

Oh! Someone was flagging him down-- Glancing over, Vayu spotted another member of the Red Lotus. He could at least report something to them-- Following the man into an old house, the younger male sighed. "I met a girl today. An earth bender. She was... Odd. And perceptive-- I had a few theories, but--" The moment of truth. Vayu fell silent as he contemplated his options. He had no valid proof that Lana was the Avatar, and with all that was happening, he wasn't certain that he'd want to give her away even if she was. Long ago, Fire Lord Sozin had destroyed the Air Nation to find the Avatar, and Fire Lord Ozai had tried to finish the job. Both attempts failed, and latter attempts hadn't proven any more successful.

"In the end, I think she was just one of those pro-benders. You know, they're always on guard and whatnot." A liar could pull off a good lie if they believed it themselves. Vayu had no proof and thus Lana could've been just a pro-bender. He'd go with that for now.

A nod from the other male seemed to relieve the previous tension in the room. He recommended that Vayu should rest, a suggestion that Vayu appreciated and quickly agreed to. Perhaps he'd sort everything out when he woke up. Why do I doubt them? The ones who took me in? I went to Air Temple Island and met a girl called Lana. I left before the temple master returned, and I'm uncertain about everything-- Why? I shouldn't dwell on it-- right?

Relaxing would be for the best. All Vayu could hope for was that he wasn't ambushed in his sleep-- Or some ridiculous fear. Besides, as far as he knew, no one would want him for any real purpose- other than the Red Lotus--

xxxRinzen raised his eyebrow when she mentioned that she wished to learn Airbending. While it was not unusual for an airbender to come from the other nations - especially after the Harmonic Convergence during Avatar Korra's time - but he had started to see the majority of the airbenders come from the Air Nation; something he assumed meant that balance was coming back to the world. He was surprised to hear she wanted it to be discreet, but it was nothing compared to his surprise at her admission to being the Avatar. 'The Avatar? Where has she been?' He tried not to let his shock show too much. Instead he smiled, "I see. While I do not doubt you, I hope you understand I must be certain. I will gladly help you if you can airbend, regardless of your status; however, such an admonition must be confirmed." Rinzen hoped she wouldn't mind too much. "If you wouldn't mind following me, we can find a more secluded place for you to demonstrate your claim." He gave her his most reassuring smile and turned to lead her to the small cove just out of view of the pier; with Shin bounding along.

xxxOnce there, he took a seat on one of the raised flat stones, easily slipping into a lotus position, exuding a rather peaceful aura. He waited for Lana, hoping she would be comfortable enough to demonstrate a bit of her abilities. 'She couldn't have come at a more difficult time... I have an obligation... No, it is an honor to train her, but between the political unrest in the city and Fei's brother's rather disrupting demands, I don't know if I can discreetly help her.' Reizen had to try very hard not to slip into a meditative state to solve his problems - as he did frequently. 'If I must travel to the spirit world with the Fire Lord, perhaps I can bring Lana along... If I could pass her off as a late-bloomer, or a relative... perhaps, she could train and I could keep the Fire Lord from burning the Spirit World... Of course, Shin would have to spread the word to the Spirits to not address Lana as the Avatar in the Fire Lord's presence.'

In short, this was fruiting to say the least. Hit after hit, punch after punch, and nothing landed, the old man always seeming to be one step ahead of her. She wanted to scream out in fury and she thinks she might have near the end there, when she was getting really mad at herself for not being able to just hit this guy. Who was he anyways?! It didn't make any sense. How could some random guy she'd never heard of come into her training room, criticize her bending, and still move fast enough to avoid a single blow? This guy was playing at something and she needed to know what it was.

When he finally called for her to stop she didn't want to, she wanted to hit him right in his smug face, but she was also tired. Going full force like that wasn't something she did often, wasn't something she liked. It was like she was out of control, and that was the opposite of what she was trying to do. So she stood there, shoulders slumped in defeat, skin wet with sweat, as he made her an offer. She didn't quiet understand what it was but his skills alone made her curious. "What is he getting at?" she asked again and again in her brain, racking every which way to figure out how what had just happened was even possible.

When he offered his card she still didn't move. Her very bones were tired and now that she'd seen his skill she didn't want to be off guard for even a second. So instead he flicked the piece of paper at her and told her to use what she'd just learned in her match later today. She didn't understand that either, big surprise there. "What was I supposed to learn?" she asked breathlessly, the anger soaked through her tone. "All I did was get angry!" she added for extra clarity, her voice rising with her confusion. But the old, mysterious man was already gone and she was shouting at air. It figures, even his exit bugged the hell out of her. She took out all this anger on the punching bad nearby, swing her leg with all her might and a great yell as the force finally strained the seams to far and it split open, sand pouring out around her ankle as she slowly drew it back and just stood there for a moment, trying to catch her breath. It was a weird day.
