Welcome to Gaia! ::

OH CANADA! Passing a Bill that says no masks allowed during protesting. Up to 5 year sentence if found guilty of wearing a mask. It's actually funny listening to the pussies in Canadian parliament pee themselves over a few hooligans wearing masks, no one was even ******** hurt. rofl

"June 15, 2011 is a dark moment in our city's history that traumatized thousands of residents, employees and hard-working business people.

The property damage incurred that evening combined with the looting that took place is in the millions of dollars. Vancouver's picture postcard image was sullied by the actions of reckless and irresponsible individuals who have no respect for the laws of our country.

Any and all efforts to further strengthen the laws to mitigate any unlawful public gatherings... are welcomed by our members."

The whole point of protesting is to have your face seen and your voice heard.

No one cares about what a faceless rabble has to say.

The point of being a faceless rabble is so that a*****e groups like the Church of Scientology can't get a good look at your face, find out your identity, and then make your life hell by singling you out and harassing you in various ways.

Shame on Vancouver for banning masks during protests. People are less likely to protest if you can see their face. 5 years? I mean really. That's just stupid. Almost on the same level of RIAA's "You download one of our songs? We're suing you for $500,000!!" kinda stupid.

There's this wonderful thing called anonymity...

Will this bill actually stop people from wearing masks during protests?

The Zen Master says, "We'll see."

Scientologists? C’mon now, don’t be silly.

If you are truly afraid of your safety then fine, wear a mask but if you want people to listen to you then you shouldn’t wear a mask. Names and faces add weight to a protest. The general public associates masks with trouble.

Police here in the UK have the power to order you to remove your mast and facial coverings in certain situations. It’s simply so they can ID you if/when you cause trouble.

lol that's silly most communication in a protest is done through chanting and picket signs bombs. Seeing a face isn't that important IMO. It even makes sense to wear a mask now adays because of the cameras and bloggers lurking around. Face recognition software is pretty good, protesting- it's a forsure way to get into some police database. Also never know what kind of spin the MSM will put on your protest so you get fired or a bad rep.

Why would you care about the opinion of organisaions like MSM? Their opinion means nothing, at least outside of the U.S.

Covering your face isn't going to stop the media and public from attacking you.

Debatable.

As for the general public associating masks with trouble... Unless you're at Mardi Gras or in costume on Halloween, people are going to give you strange looks for having a mask on. Assume you're up to no good? Eh, maybe, maybe not. 'course, that's just my US-centric bias speaking.

I'm not surprised, especially considering those riots you had in London last year.

As far as I know the police can ask you to remove your mask, but you don't have to. They can't order you to remove anything covering your face. From what I understand it has something to do with burqas and 1st Amendment protecting freedom of religion.

Masks and hoods are typically warn by troubled youths (Here in the UK and large parts of Europe) so has become associated with violence, alcohol abuse etc.

UK and US law although based on the same ideals is very different. British police have a lot of powers that they can only use during certain situations, violent protests, civil disorder etc.

The recent disorder in London was nothing, really. They took advantage of a dispute between the Police and the black community. The US media blew it out of proportion.

Normally, i think, a law like this wouldn't be a big deal. However, with the rise of the internet and anonymous, I believe people are more concerned about preserving their anonymity. When anonymous go out and protest, they wear guy fawkes masks as a show of solidarity and because it's a fundamental belief of anonymous that faces, race, gender etc all do not matter. We're all part of the human race and are therefore all anonymous. By banning the wearing of masks, it severely hinders the message that is sent out by anonymous when they protest IRL.

Awww, does the big bad Internet Hate Machine now have to show it's face when it ventures out in public?

This made me smile a bit inside. One of the best ways to fight Anonymous is to remind these bigoted asshats that they do have an identity and they aren't some faceless Borg/Stroogg/whatever.

Good, considering their message.

And a belief that race, gender don't matter? *SNORT* Yeaaaa, sure, that totally explains their bashing of "niggers" and "cumdumpsters" on a daily basis, donnit?

Hell, look at Cameron here; he's a class A bigot who thinks I need to be put to death for my sexuality.

Anonymous, IMO, has changed in recent months with regards to their image. Yes I won't deny that they originated from 4chan and were basically the "scum" of the internet. But lately I find that they've been fighting more and more for people's rights and stuff which is something that I actually do agree with and admire considering our own politicians are working towards taking those rights away from us. We need a banner to fight as one under and if it's anonymous then so be it.

If anyone refuses to show their face, I don't want to hear what they have to say and I damn well don't want them thinking they are 'fighting for me'.
Nor do I want a nameless group of shitbags that has a penchant for hate, as well as attacking companies that really have absolutely nothing to do with some problems. They're worthless and I hope they all get at least six months of a** stretching in prison at some time in their life.

I find it amusing how users think Anonymous is trying to protect the Internet. Anonymous has done nothing but harm the Internet and it's users.

So what has Anonymous does recently?
Extortion.
Bullying individuals to the point they kill themselves.
Attacking large corporations, harming everyone that relies on their services.
Stealing large amounts of personal data and releasing it to the public, potentially endangering people.
Stealing money from credit cards.
Distributing illegal material; child pornography etc.
Attacking the websites of FBI and SOCA, organisations that protect people from serious harm.
Attacking users who speak out against them.
