Apple innovated a great deal, both in terms of hardware and software. That innovation took risk, and needed to be financed. Unless they are allowed to properly profit from that innovation, such innovation will be discouraged in the future. While I too think that some of the claims in the suit were a stretch, some of them weren't.

All that aside, I wonder how they came up with a nice round number like 1 BILLION DOLLARS to award as damages...

Apple should be attacked and destroyed completely. Damn them all to hell.
