In the manga and anime, Nagato Pain is seen possessing the Rinnegan.

He never actually used it though.....
This was supposedly the most elite of the ocular jutsu, but from what I've seen, the Sharingan kicks it's arse all over the place.

Madara Uchiha aka Tobi, has stated that he would like to obtain the Rinnegan from one of Pain's bodies.
I'd rather see Naruto or Sasuke obtain a pair razz

The Rinnegan can use any chakra nature, while the Sharingan can't :/

However the Sharingan has some badass abilities...
