What is your favorite time or decade of era of music?

Mine is 1982 to 1988.

And their are three reason for this.

In my opinion this 6 years had the best years of pop music. I don't usually like pop but it is something about this period that makes it feel less stupid or sappy.

The rock was great. This is when metal (trash or pop) was real good or popular for good, bad or indifferent.

Also this is when, in my opinion, R&B had it last great stretch of music. Before it became R & B of today.

Plus the music video don't help either!

My favorite decade of music is probably from 1984 to 1994.

I just feel that those ten years produced the best music I've ever heard. All of my favorite bands released music in that span of time.

Crimson Glory's first two (perfect) albums.
Tesla's first four albums before their breakup.
Queensrÿche's best material (The Warning through Empire).
Megadeth's first bunch of albums.
Pretty much all the Savatage albums with Criss Oliva on guitar.

In general, I seem to like music that comes from those years more than anything else.

And yet, on my MP3 player, the most populous year is 2011. Second is 1986. xD

My favorite era is now, although I like most genres of music from all the eras. I feel as though I am on a ship upon an ocean of music. There's artists today that borrow and meld music from several genres and eras. It's awe inspiring. Never before, to my knowledge, has music been so accessible to poor and rich.

I do have a soft spot for 80's music. Mostly new wave, synth pop, industrial, electronic, avant garde, and experimental.

Oh and 70's krautrock... total mind blowing stuff.

In all honesty, I find it very difficult to pick a favorite.

The Hall of the Mountain King album blew me away the first time I listened to it.

And I suppose I have the most amount of music from 2011 because I have several full albums from my favorite bands/artists that released an album that year (Megadeth's 13, Steve Howe's Time, Queensryche's Dedicated to Chaos...). It just happened to be a popular year for my favorite bands. rofl

I'd say somewhere around 1987 to 1997. You get all kinds of good indie and alternative rock, shoegaze, post-rock, post-hardcore, math rock, space rock-revival sludge metal, stoner/desert rock, dream pop, slowcore, grunge, noise rock black metal, alternative metal, surf-rock revival. That's all without getting into all the good electronic music that was being made, especially by µ-ziq, Aphex Twin, Tetsu Inoue, Orbital, LFO, Atom, Autechre, Boards of Canada, The Sabres of Paradise and The Black Dog.
