Why is it so bad to masturbate? That's what I genuinely want to know and it's not like I was watching porn one day and this just popped into my mind. No, I got a christian book and it said that if you are obsessed with pornography and such you should not date, but why?
It's not like you're hurting anyone, you're not having sex before your married, so why is it a sin?
Also, I was too afraid to ask a preacher or some other religious leader. So, now I turn to the wonders of anonymously posting on the internet! YAY!
Well before I begin, can I ask if you are a Christian?
That's really hard to define because I've always grown up with the Christian belief so in that respect yes. However, I've had a more open approach to many things. Not the ethical code--those are good--but other things. Basically, yes and no.
Define your "Christian Beliefs". The reason I ask is because from experience, I've seen an overwhelming dichotomy between Christians and Non-Christians over the topic of Masturbation/Porn. It's rather shocking really.
Quick play by play
1. One specific incarnation of God that those present at the times were most willing to accept him as. He, or his consciousness, was also represented in different incarnations or representations in different religions--the many Gods in Hinduism, Krishna, and the actual Buddah.
2. There are many pathways to God.
3. Samsara is real, but reliving your life is like the hell that Christians speak of and escaping it is that enlightenment or heaven.
Well now I can speak candidly. As a person who reads and studies the Bible and Christendom, there is no way I can genuinely say you are a Christian. I am not making an ignorant judgement call. I am simply reading your response, comparing it to the Gospel (Central to Christianity) and deducing that based on what you just told me, there is no way you are indeed a Christian.
You can't mold various beliefs and fashion them into your own Theology and claim that they are Christian beliefs when they aren't. It's basically a lie.
sad
But on a positive note, at least now you know. The word "Christian" originated in Greek, being "
Christianos", and simply means, "
A follower of Christ." It is not an accumulation of various beliefs systems, but rather only that of Jesus Christ.
If you are interested in understanding what it might mean to be a Christian, then please PM me. I will not go further in discussing the original topic because this is much more important. I would even argue that you might not fully understand their implications with out being one yourself. Most don't...
