Er... okay. But that's not really the point, at all.

I mean, there are a lot gorier books and movies out there than LotR. A good part of the story is the quest - battles are relatively rare, and when they do happen they are more focused on the glory than the gore.

Just, they always struck me as relatively tame in term of such things as bloodshed. Sure, Tolkien describes it, but in the driest terms possible.

I do like gore in things like Quentin Tarintino films, and books like Jurassic Park, but I wouldn't include LotR in that batch.
