my mom wanted me to be a child model(like pageants) after I won a bathing beauty contest.
I replied firmly NO!!
most kids however don't do that or thier mom's force or brainwash them into doing these pageants.
I think any child under the age of 8 should not participate in pageants professionally..

I'm not sure what modeling contests you're talking about,
because I don't think we have those in Belgium?
We do, of course, have children pose for clothing brands,
but I never really thought how they are selected...

What I do find rather strange is beachwear for kids.
I'm like "No, your five years old doesn't need a bikini!"
Same goes for bra's.
Yep, bras for five year olds are ridiculous.

I don't agree on the two-piece bathing suits, though, because even when I was a five year old I hated one-piece swimsuits (so difficult to remove), so I was glad that two-piece bathing suits existed.

OP: I agree that kids shouldn't be forced or talked into modeling against their will, but if they want to model, they should be allowed to do it without the unnecessary stress.

How about padded bras for 8 years old girls, and high heeled baby shoes?
Girls don't need bras until they start to develop breasts.

Babies don't need shoes because they can't walk.

They don't need it- Their parents do.

I was a child model and I didnt hate it, but I do believe there are many kids who dont like being a child model, unfortunately the parents cant see that
I don't see the issue as long as parents are being smart about their child's limits.

I also think this thread is confusing pageant children with child models.

I child modeled for about 3 years when I was younger, and I had the absolute best time. I was in a few commercials (crest in '94!) and some ads here and there, and it really didn't make me suicidal or have body issues or anything.

Pageants on the other hand....total bs.

I cant believe that these mothers actually DIET there adorable children and babies!! the parents should die from mass stonings.

Well not die but at least get sued or end their child's "business" until the child wants to be back in business again!
Or they should quit and live like normal famalies.
I mean, 3 year-old models??? SERIOUSLY???

About them dying, it was only speaking figuretively, I ment that they need to wake the ******** up and see what they are doing to thier kids.

Fluffy Cat

Any situation where a parent lives vicariously through their child is saddening.
