The best answer is to ignore it - because people lose sight and interest really fast. He might send you another message to the effect of "Hey, did you get my last message?" and if you just ignore that one too, he will be gone. Most likely though, no respsonse to the first message will stifle him and he will move on (chances are he sends a lot of messages to a lot of girls hoping for replies).

Also, replying that you are a guy might throw him off, but sometimes they will just go along with it for awhile because they are wanting the interaction and attention.
