Unity
This is a 1x1 roleplay between me and Mobius The Winter King, feel free to read along, but please don't post without permission, thank you.

In the end, humanity had nowhere else to go when technology predicted that soon, a supernova would destroy the planet they knew as Earth. The strongest, the most intellectual and most important humans on earth were those who were lucky enough to be selected for an emergency evacuation into space on the quest for a new home planet, leaving the unforunate weaker humans to inevitably die. They couldn't take everyone, no matter how well prepared they were, and in the end, only a small handful of a million were able to fit onto a mothership and a small fleet of ships, some of which may have been lost on the way. So the lucky ones left, ships full of people and the advanced technology they had managed to bring, along with the plans to make more- if they could find a planet on which building such technology, was possible, of course.

It took a long time, but these Humans, eventually found a planet that on the outside, looked remarkably like the planet they had fled, and after a few hesitant first steps, they found that the air was breathable and the land was green and filled with everything they needed to survive, and so they set to building a new community, a new civilisation. Little did they know that the planet was already inhabited, by nature dwelling creatures uncannily similar to themselves, but with slender pointed ears and hair that varied from copper brown, hay yellow, fall orange and grass green in hue. They were in every sense of the word; Elves, and these Elves very quickly warned the Humans that they would not tarnish this planet, for they knew that it had to be cared for and it's resources treasured. The Elves called their beloved planet Iuphus.

But the Humans digressed and continued building, at first nothing but small towns, but when they realised the only technology they could pull together was basic, barely what they were used to, they wanted more. So they began to mine the mountains, and began to push themselves harder to build better technology; but upon returning to the mountains, the Elves saw the damage done, and even worse, they saw that the Humans were now building factories to satisfy their need for more means of building what they wanted, and so they confronted the humans. Who were they to arrive on Iuphus and begin taking what they pleased? Even the technology they had built required power, and lots of it, too much the Elves said, and if they took any more they really might damage the planet to the point where it would spiral downwards and be no longer green and wonderful. But the humans disagreed; why shouldn't the Elves share the resources they had? They seemingly had plenty of it and were guarding it as if it was the most precious stuff they owned. The two races quarrelled, but words sooned turned sour and it wasn't long before the first bullet and arrow were fired, and thus began a ten year long war.

The war was simply nature versus technology, but that didn't make it any less terrifying or brutal, as the two races fought to claim land they each believed to be stolen or kept from them. The Humans had guns and bombs, the Elves had bows and magic, each held a deadly force that took many lives from the other's side. The royalty of each side, each hated each other, but 5 years in, more people than they could afford to lose were being lost, and even they could see that for now that neither were winning. So the Humans brought missiles, and the Elves used stronger magic missiles of their own, and the war raged on. In the midst of the raging war, the two royal families had children, children they did not know then may just be the key to peace. On the ninth year, it was clear they were no closer to exterminating the other than they had been before, and so they called a truce, one that seemed temporary at first, and began to hold peace talks. Fighting resumed for another half a year, but once more, they realised how pointless it was, and once more talked. It was then that a truce was called, in which they divided the land and applied restrictions for their respective elements, the Humans would have to settle with what technology they had and regulate their usage of it, and the Elves would have to part with some of their less needed resources and divide them fairly to help the other survive.

The truce was signed, and both races enjoyed peace, but 3 years on the two sides began to quarrel once more amongst themselves, unable to put the past to rest, resulting in disastrous riots and protests, and it wasn't just this. The Humans were once more trying to advance their technology and were verging on using excessive amounts of energy to power this technology, whilst the Elves were becoming less and less keen on sharing what they had and their power regulations they had placed on the Humans became stricter than before. Despite sharing temporary peace, it looked like conflict was just around the corner, so on the 4th year the Royals of each race decided that to show that the two species were capable of unity and peace, their two eldest children would marry. The Elven King and Queen informed their eldest daughter, and the Human King and Queen informed their eldest son, the pair accepted their fate for the greater good of all...or that was how it seemed. The Eldest daughter of the Elves, rebelled and eloped with her Elven lover, and the calm peace they had worked so hard to restore was shattered, with the riots and protests from both Human and Elven growing even worse than they had been before. Unphased, the Elves, decided their second eldest daughter, Ilrune, would have to take her sister's place, and Ilrune accepted this fate. On the 5th year, as soon as she turned 16, she was being groomed for the royal lifestyle, and shortly after turning 20, it was announced she was ready to Marry. The royals had planned every detail, after years of bubbling tension, it was a relief to think that their careful planning would finally unite their two kingdoms and bring true peace to all. But would the two young royals, really be as picture perfect as their parents wanted them to seem, or would they crack under the pressure to meet the world's expectations?

ℳeet the ℛoyals:

Ilrune Rhaac'var High Elf
Second Daughter of the King and Queen of the Elves

Appearance: Picture One Picture Two Picture Three
Name: Ilrune Rhaac'var
Race: Elf
Age: 20
Traits:Patient, Calm, Graceful, Creative, Caring
Likes: The outdoors, hunting, carving/crafting, family,
Dislikes: War, arguing, impatience, people who don't listen
Personality: Ilrune is calm and sweet, and very skillful in crafting and hunting and takes great pride in her duty as a royal as do many, and sees it as part of her duty, to be married for the sake of her kingdom. (I'll develop her pesonality as I go, but so far calm and collected works)
Bio/background: Ilrune is the second oldest of two sisters and two brother's and was brought up keenly by her parents, as were her other siblings. The eldest daughter, her older sister, took a lot of heat, as of course someday this child would take over the throne, so Ilrune would've had a good relatively simple, for a royal, childhood, if she weren't born at the beginning of a ten-year long war between elf and human kind for the right to preserve nature and lands they had reigned over for many years, which the humans wished to build on, claiming that techonology was the way forward. It was when larger factories were being built more and more often that the elves revealed their existence, the pollution even noticable in areas of Iuphus the elves had thought were untouchable. The 10 year long war forced Ilrune and her younger siblings into hiding and until she was 15, and they were heavily guarded. The war seemed like it would never end, so eventually the two sides struck a truce, which demanded that they split up the land they wanted equally between them, and that none should cause harm to the land the other ruled. Techonology useage was regulated strictly, also.

Ilrune despite the war, tried her best to look after her siblings and keep them calm when they were scared, which lead to her growing up into a graceful caring young lady, but she couldn't help but be relieved when the war ended, and at last she and her siblings were allowed to be children in the truest sense of the word, and the world was peaceful for a while, humans and elves beginning to mingle and communicate with each other more freely. Ilrune's older sister began to learn the ways of the throne, and Ilrune looked up to her and her parents very fondly, but she didn't know how stressed they truly were. It was on an public outing when she began to see the cracks, when she saw a human and an elf fighting, each hurling shocking words at the other. No matter how peaceful things had looked, it was clear that some people simply couldn't put the past to rest. Ilrune was very perceptive, and as soon as she turned sixteen she too began to learn the ways of royal life, and found that she had a promising path as a craftswoman, as she very much enjoyed carving furniture and weapons alike to pass the time, now that the war was over and she needn't look after her siblings, the elf often found herself learning new crafts to pass the time in the halls of the palace. Ilrune also turned out to be skilled with herbal remedies, and surprisingly, with hunting, and often joined some of her siblings out on the hunt.

It was at this time, also, that tensions began to rise again, and try as the leader's of both races tried to quell them, it often backfired. Already, each side were flinging accusations at the other. So the two sides decided that a marriage between an elf and human should show that there was true peace between the two races, and they immediately sent for Ilrunes sister to be wed, but her sister, eloped with an elf she had been secretly courting. That left Ilrune, as the next option, who surprisingly, calmly accepted. As a child she had seen the horrors of war the and the rising tensions, between the two races scared her, and she decided that it was her responsibility to try to quell it, even if it meant getting married to someone she barely knew. The fact that her fiance was human, she accepted without fuss; she had two years until she turned eighteen, and she figured that the marriage would be fine, as it was just an arrangement, after all. Ilrune grew, and blossomed, and after she turned eighteen, she was groomed for the life of royalty and marriage for two years, her parents taking careful steps to make sure everything would go to plan, and for the first time, she felt nervous- she had been preparing for two years for the sake of her kingdom, but was it really possible to be totally prepared for this sort of thing? What if they hated each other? They hadn't met before, so it was a little scary, even if it was technically just business, and even more frightening was the idea that the marriage would somehow backfire as had many attempts to soothe the frustrated population of Iuphus.

The first meeting arrangements were now being made, and Ilrune knew that getting married would be for the best if it prevented uprisings, and she took on the image of royalty well, already being a rather calm patient elf by nature, having cared for her siblings so long during the war. Although she loved her sister, she couldn't help but find what she did to be a little reckless and she felt obliged to try to repair her family's image by trying her best to be as perfect as possible. Already she was used to outings and the news that the marriage arrangement between her and this human was to finally be made public, didn't shake her that much; even if they were getting married, it was just an arrangement for the sake of keeping the uneasy peace between Elven and Human kind alike. Calm and graceful, her parents decided that she would do the job well, but as time passed even Ilrune felt a hint of unease; again, the possibility of the arrangement backfiring and angering an already uneasy public audience lingered in the back of her mind, and she feared the idea of another long brutal war. So, Ilrune decided that she would make the best of this marriage; peace, and that was all it meant to her, another means to keep people safe.

Deimos Gunther Human Prince
Third Son of the King and Queen of the Humans

Appearance: Image One
Name: Deimos Gunther
Race: Human
Age: 24
Traits: Quiet, somewhat clumsy, impatient, and very intelligent.
Likes: Books, strategic games (I.E. chess), and astronomy.
Dislikes: Sour food, cloudy nights, and senseless warfare.
Personality: Deimos is often seen as someone who appears to be spaced out. However, when is is like this the prince is often in the midst of some kind of some kind of calculation or or other thought intensive process. Often, his impatience forces him into making mistakes and lends support to his clumsiness when it reveals itself. In retrospect, the frequency with one could find him quietly reading books or studying one subject or another on his computer reinforces his sheer intelligence. Deimos's love for strategy games most likely developed from his very logical approach to most things in life.
Biography:
From birth, the prince was the third in line to the throne and the multitude of political climate changes would have seen him crowned as king, if his supporting faction could have made it so. However, Deimos showed no interest in inheriting the throne in general, preferring to stay secluded in the royal library of the fleet's capital ship Sol and read about the many different kinds of lifeforms that had once inhabited his people's homeworld before the solar system's sun began to expand into a red giant star. In this process, the Earth and all of the remaining inhabitants of it had been destroyed. While the solar system still existed, even after their evacuation, there were no longer any inhabitable planets remaining and so humanity took to the stars in search of a new home.

As a young boy, his love of the stars kept him wanting to stay among them, however, fate wouldn't be on his side as it had been with the fleet that had ventured through the stars as it had in the past. When Deimos was five years old, they came upon a new world. One that could support his race's needs. As development of the planet began, he continued to ignore the planet below the ship and constantly kept his eyes either glued to his books or gazed out into the starry expanse that intrigued him so. Five years later, shortly after his tenth birthday, when it was decided that the colonies were sufficiently developed enough for the Royal Family to move down to their residence on the surface. At first, Deimos himself was curious about the new world and traveled down with his family, however, that was also when the war began. The fighting had been vicious, humanity with their advanced weaponry and the elves with their extensive knowledge of the planet-wide forests and jungles as well as their knack for avoiding detection, proved to force both sides into drawn out battles.

In a bold move, the elves had dispatched assassins to eliminate humanity's Royal Family. All the attacks, save one, were unsuccessful and their assailants were killed on sight or while they attempted to escape. The one that had managed to hit their target, despite dying during the attempt, had managed to critically wound Deimos. Luckily, the young man survived due only to the elf's desire for revenge for her family, especially her young daughter who had died in a bombing run on an elven outpost, had driven the female elf partially mad with grief. When she set eyes on the young boy she lunged at him while slashing Deimos repeatedly as he did his utmost to dodge the blades and while he lay upon the ground disabled from the attacks, the maddened woman stabbed him several times to try and make him suffer the loss of her daughter. It was around then that the Royal Guard burst through the door and put her to the sword.

After the surgeries were complete and the prince was in recovery the surgeon noted that, had the assailant used any kind of poison on his weapon, the young prince would not have survived the attack. Soon after, he returned to the flagship Sol and quietly lived out the remainder of the war safely in high orbit of the planet.

It had long been decided that he was to be the metaphorical 'sacrificial offering' to the elves after the war's conclusion, depending on what the outcome was. Thus, it was said that the third prince had remained quiet after being injured. Now, for the first time in fourteen years, the third prince was now ordered by his father to come down to the surface and do his duty as a member of the Royal Family. His 'task' was to be wedded an elven princess for the sake of peace, as a purely political move to placate the people, and live out the rest of his days among the people who nearly killed him fourteen years prior.

Extra information: His body has several scars on his arms, chest, and back. Which come from both the wounds he suffered on that day he was attacked and from the emergency surgeries that followed.

"And the tensions between elf and man are rising,"

After two years of unsteadiness and planning, the day had arrived on Iuphus, where Human and Elven kind would take the first hopeful uncertain steps into finally putting their past to rest, and the young Elf Ilrune Rhaac'var, played a vital role in doing so, which she knew now more than ever as she was roused by her maid, the sun still casting dim orange light through her window and into her room, glinting as it hit the marble floor and spreading across the entirity of the elegant room, when her maid upon seeing that she was now awake, drew the curtains wide to let in a little more light. Is it that day already? Ilrune wondered as she sat up and pulled aside the covers of her oak bed and looked over to the side of the room where her maid was now laying out her royal garments, the ones she wore everyday as the second youngest daughter of the King and Queen of Elves, but today, even if they were the same familiar clothes she was so used to, she would be wearing them for a much different reason. Today, she was to meet her human fiance for the first time, to finally plan the wedding, the image of themselves that was going to soothe two uneasy kingdoms, and making a good impression was as important as ever of course, especially now.

With an uneasy feeling settling in her chest, Ilrune got out of bed and allowed the maid to wash and groom her, then slid into the white gold and green garments that she knew so well. Once her maid had carefully combed and arranged her hair, she smiled kindly at the royal in what Ilrune supposed she had meant to be a reassuring gesture which came out looking a little nervous. Even Ilrune, who was praised for being a calm graceful lady, felt a little so, so she returned the smile, before bidding the maid goodbye, and heading downstairs into the long marble room, befitted with a wooden table piled with food waiting for her along with her parents and siblings, who all gave her a knowing look before they all ate. Ilrune's sister, was there with her husband, who had once been the lover who had thwarted a past attempt at uniting the two kingdoms via marriage, and she couldn't help but envy the sister who had so freely rebelled against it. It would be easy to do the same, but Ilrune had surprisingly taken up the role her sister had supposed to complete without anger. She considered keeping the peace a natural part of her duty, even if it meant offering her hand to a stranger to keep another war at bay. I'm not letting it happen again, she had resolved to herself as soon as the 10-year long war between Elf and Human had ended, having seen the horrors of war since she was born, despite how hard her parents had tried to shield their children from the conflict, and that resolve held as firm as ever, even today.

As soon as she had cleared her plate of food, her father spoke, "Ilrune, you are to come with me and your mother to the Citadel Meeting Hall. We will only be able to accompany you through the doors, then you are on your own." Ilrune nodded, she knew all of this, she had known it for a while now and so had her parents, who looked at her with firm faces, but concerned eyes, which she tried to ignore, giving them what she hoped was a reassuring smile as she waited for them to eat, and then joined them when they stood and left to lead her. It was a lovely bright day outside, as they walked through the arching trees of the forest, the sunlight cast a mixture of dappled green sunlight and shadows onto the forest floor. As they neared the outskirts of the forest the familiar sound of a horse pawing the grass underfoot alerted Ilrune that they would be travelling by horse. As the carriage came into her sight she noticed a couple of Elven officials waiting, their heads looking in their direction as if they had heard them approaching before they had seen them. Giving the officials a friendly nod, and taking in the familiar smell of forest one last time, Ilrune climbed into the carriage and slid into a seat, her parents joining her.

And then with a slight rumble, they were off, towards the Citadel, the only section of Iuphus where you would see humans and elves in the same place, as it functioned as the main trading and meeting centre and as they arrived it was even busier than usual today; everyone knew the news of the marriage, and it showed through the varying facial expressions amongst the crowds who pushed themselves to the sides of the streets to make way for the carriage. Some people looked angry, some people looked happy, and some people appeared unsure what to make of the event, but they got to the building they were looking for eventually, a tall grey building, built by the humans as a means for the Royals and Officials of Iuphus to meet in privacy when needed, that was named simply 'Citadel Meeting Hall'. Ilrune smiled calmly at the crowd that surrounded the building from the carriage, knowing that as far as the public was aware, this was supposed to be the happy day when she met her 'love', the human prince, although in reality Ilrune wasn't quite sure how she was supposed to feel, only knowing that she felt at least relieved to think that by doing this, both kingdoms finally had the chance to unite and co-exist peacefully, and that made her happy, despite her vague hidden unease. Feeling her father squeeze her hand and her mother touch her shoulder reassured her of that this marriage was for the best, and so they got out of the carriage to smile and wave at the crowd pleasantly, before they arrived at the two large doors at which Ilrune would have to bid them farewell. "I'll see you soon," Ilrune gave her parents, the people who had worked so hard for this day to turn out right, a gentle affectionate hug, and then turned her back on the crowd, and with a brief look towards the guards stood to one side, pushed the doors open and headed inside.

The place was distinctly made by humans; only humans used electricity as a light source, and Ilrune immediately noticed the artificial hue of the light that made the clothing of Royals seem over-saturated in colour in stark contrast to the neat practical grey corridor, drawing her eyes to a man dressed in a Elven uniform of elegant but dulled down blues and silvers. "Are you my escort?" Ilrune inquired and was met with a nod of the head which revealed his pointed ears, "Please alert the humans of my arrival." Another nod, and the escort left to do his business and for a brief moment, Ilrune took in her surroundings, the place in which she would be staying for until the wedding was over, and she knew it would take time before they even got that far. Patiently, she waited for her escort to return, and looked down the corridor where her escort had went. It's a big place, she recalled from brief visits, that despite it's plain appearance, this building had many rooms and meeting areas which were well guarded and private all in the layout of small to large halls, hence the name, which were perfect for today. As much as the elf could never get used to the light-bulbs hanging from the ceiling, she had to admit that the building was if a little plain, neat and practical, which given the humans taste for excessiveness, was pleasant. Her unease had been replaced by her usual calm, as it seemed the human officials viewed this is very much the same way as she did; business, neat and simple business to calm troubled kingdoms and it was reflected through the building she stood in. As long as they saw eye to eye, there was no reason for this plan not to work.

"You'd think that there are more

Today was going to be a very long day for him, or at least that was the prince felt like. Today he was to meet his bride-to-be and he wasn't looking forward to it.With a shake of his medium length brown hair, Deimos rebuked himself for feeling like he was. Sure, his bride was going to be an elven princess, but she had nothing to do with what had happened to him the last time he had set foot on the planet's surface. The assassin that held the grudge against humans was long dead now and it wasn't right to hold her actions against the princess or her entire race. "Roland, let's get this over with. I'd like to return to Sol as soon as possible. Let's hope that we don't get caught up in any of the politics around this." The prince said, motioning for his butler and the escorts to follow him. "I feel bad enough for this woman, being forced to marry because of family obligations. I'd rather not drag it out, for both of our sakes." They soon departed from the Royal Estate that was situated near the Citadel Meeting Hall, or just Citadel Hall as most humans referred to it as. While in transit, Deimos's personal butler, Roland, was briefing him on the current relations between their two races.

It seemed that public unrest was the cause of this situation and this arranged marriage was a political move aimed at pacifying both people without having to resort to any kind of force. "I still don't like this. No woman should be forced to marry against her will." He said, interrupting the butler. "I cannot fathom why my mother and father decided on this. If this situation is so volatile as they imply it is, would something like this have a good chance of backfiring against both kingdoms?" Roland took a look upon his face that easily told the prince that it was beyond both of their control and he felt some guilt about it. "My Lord, this is the will of your mother and father. To speak out against this would be beyond my station." The older gentlemen said, with a polite bow to the prince. "If it is any consolation, I've heard that Princess Ilrune is a very attractive woman, even among those of the elven lineage. Perhaps the two of you would work something out privately, my Lord?" The idea swirled around in his mind as his gloved hand tapped thoughtfully upon his chin. It may be something worth investigating at the very least, besides, he could always reveal the truth about the assassination attempt, which the Royal Family placed a gag order on to prevent news from getting back to the elves during the war.

It was his trump card in negotiations, be it with humans or elves. The revelation that one of the assassins had managed to critically injure the human Royal Family would be more than enough to bring both races back into the bloody war that had only just four short years ago. "This is a closed-door meeting, so at least I won't have anybody trying to tell me how to act around her. I expect that somebody will be trying to monitor us though." Prince Deimos said, in a voice that revealed he was still weighing the situation in his mind. "I suppose, the only thing I can do is see what she has to say to me." The armored hovercraft arrived at the Citadel Hall shortly after he'd fallen silent in contemplation of the possibilities. After exiting the vehicle, his long coat blowing to his right side with the strong breeze, the looks of the people were a mixed range of emotions from awe to quietly smoldering rage. Many of the humans placed their right hands palm down against the front of their left shoulders as they bowed to him. This was another thing that he hated about having to appear in public, the people around him were forced to follow protocol and etiquette while in his presence. The prince waved to the people and then moved swiftly into the building.

"Good afternoon, Prince Deimos." An elven man to his left said after he entered the building. "Princess Ilrune has arrived and was escorted to the private meeting chambers." While being royalty had it's perks, those perks often came with more chains and shackles than people realized. At this point, due to everything already being decided for him, it was only a formality that they meet with one another in a private setting. His parents were even too busy to accompany him to this meeting and didn't even show up, but Deimos was used to such treatment. "Very well then, please, lead the way Ambassador." He replied with a polite smile that was accompanied with a matching bow. "I wouldn't want to keep the princess waiting any longer than she must." With the pleasantries exchanged, the entourage walked with the prince all the way until reaching the doors to the meeting room.

The whole group bowed to the prince as he opened the doors and entered the room. Quietly closing the door behind him, the man took his first look at the woman that he was supposed to be wedded to. After stoically suppressing a flinch at seeing another elf at close range for the first time fourteen years, he offered the woman a smile as he moved to stand near a window with a great view of the vast elven forests. The shock had worn off by the time he stood at the window and the human drew in a breath and released it quietly. He'd seen many pictures of elves, but it seemed that Roland was quite right about her appearance. Even among her own kind the princess did seem to be in a league of her own. He was inclined to agree with his butler that the woman was quite a sight to behold.

This was a closed-door meeting though, where they didn't have to be formal with each other, but the prince still found himself feeling ill at home in the presence of her very formal posture. "I do suppose that introductions are in order. It is only proper that I introduce myself first." Deimos said, turning to face her while the sunlight seemed to illuminate his subdued clothing. "I am Prince Deimos Gunther." He said, electing to use a semi-formal introduction. "It is a pleasure to finally meet you face to face, Princess." He followed it up with a polite bow to her, as he didn't wish to seem impudent by choosing to not offer a foreign Princess a complete greeting.

"And the tensions between elf and man are rising,"

Indeed the Citadel Meeting Hall was large, and she passed many rooms as she was lead to the one where should would meet her groom. With a polite thank-you to the person who had escorted her there, she pushed open the doors, and was met with the pleasant sight of a large window, which offered a view of the forests she called home. In front of this window, there was a table, with a few chairs, all plain and simple, but she found nonetheless comfortable when she took a seat, listening idly to the noise outside which probably meant the human royalty had arrived. There was nothing left to do now but wait, and hope nothing went awry.

Turning her attention once more to the room after gazing out of the window, she noticed a large bowl of fruit on the table she had previously ignored, probably an attempt to make the distinctly human-made building a little more welcoming, which she appreciated, even if she wasn't quite hungry. It added a little bit of colour to the room, and she liked that, as it made her feel a little less out of place. In these grey walls, even remotely bright colours seemed rather obnoxious and her white green and gold garments stood out against the dulled down hues of the chair she sat on, legs folded neatly in front of her, her back straight. The way she carried herself was a clear indicator that she was a royal to most, although to her, it was second nature and the elven lady barely took any notice of it.

It wasn't the best room, but it was a small luxury at that moment to be able to at least speak to her groom with relative privacy. And by relative, she knew that at least one person would have a report about the pair by the end of the day and would try to mould them into the couple the public wanted them to be, regardless of what they wanted. Today's meeting was just to test the waters, in short. Idly, she smoothed down her clothes as she looked towards the window, the greenery a bittersweet reminder that someday this year, she wouldn't live there anymore, but here in the Citadel, as a shining example of unity for the public to wonder at.

Footsteps broke the peace and she knew that now was the time. As quietly as the door was opened, she still heard it click as it was opened and closed with her elf ears, and tilted her head to watch the man she would be wed to cross the room to the window. For a human, yet alone a prince, his attire surprised her, consisting of muted royal blues and golds, with fur edging the outfit opposed to lace. Returning his smile, she looked once more towards the window which he now looked out of and she could sense he was almost shocked or stunned, although towards what she did not know. As the pair took a few moments to themselves to relax and take in the awkward atmosphere, she stood up formally and allowed the male to introduce himself, and as he spoke of his name and bowed, the light that filtered through the window caught on his clothes, for a brief moment bringing out some of the hues in the delicately coloured fabric. Ilrune curtseyed in return, and in a small attempt to ease the awkward atmosphere, offered Deimos a smile, "I am Ilrune Rhaac'var, High Elf of the King and Queen. It's nice to meet you too."

Indeed, so far everything seemed, if a little awkward, okay, and she couldn't say Deimos seemed particularly unpleasant, as odd as it felt to be so close to a human. If anything, he struck her as a little uncomfortable, or at least at that moment, and she felt a little sorry for the human. She tried to soothe the human a little, "I don't blame you if you're feeling uncomfortable, you know," she reassured him, continuing on as calmly as ever,"as long as we're open with each other, I think we'll be fine, it's just for the people, and I don't expect anything more of you than to help ease the unrest alongside me." her expression was relaxed and unsurprised; she had seen this coming, and it seemed for the best if they were honest with each other, she had decided that long before the meeting was even arranged, after careful planning of her conduct with her parents. Be polite, be honest, be graceful and most importantly, be the perfect bride, were the few simple rules set for this marriage, and as she herself viewed the matter as a simple polticial statement, if anything, knowing that she was only expected to appear in love, was a relief, because at least behind closed doors, they could be themselves.

The elven princess attempted to reassure Deimos by saying that it would be best for them to simply be honest with each other and that he appeared nervous to her, but that wasn't far from the truth either. Electing to let her comment stand unchallenged the man continued to assess her as she spoke. Then the next set of words from her forced him to immediately reconsider his currently positive opinion of her. He was almost utterly baffled and had to hid his reaction behind a poker face.

"I think we'll be fine, it's just for the people, and I don't expect anything more of you than to help ease the unrest alongside me."

Having previously thought of her as an understanding person, this statement completely shattered that image of her faster than the time it took for a dropped bottle to burst into pieces on the floor. "What the hell kind of an outlook is that? Are they taking this as some kind of political game?!" He thought with great irritation, however on the outside, the smile had only dropped into a businessmen's poker face. A smile that was once genuine, now replaced by a fake, Deimos fell into silence and simply looked out the window. "Lovely, I get to marry somebody who doesn't even really care about anything except saving her own people. I guess hoping for anything more than this was a fool's errand. On top of that, she has the gall to make it seem like I'm incompetent and subtly tell me to follow her lead? Just. Lovely." It seemed that the rumors of Elven folk being condescending wasn't an exaggeration, after all, she'd managed to not only completely insult him, but do it while giving a proper greeting! Somewhere in the back of his mind, he knew it was just a business deal and that was apparently all that anybody ever wanted it to be. Not that it surprised him at all.

"Oh, is that so..." He said in a slow thoughtful voice. "....." Just thinking about this now irritated him. To think that he was even remotely excited to see what she would be like, made him even more irritated. This was exactly why he'd chosen to remain with the Colony Fleet instead of moving down to live on the surface. All the politics, all the business deals, and now he was to be anchored down to this place as a sacrificial pawn for some 'peace' offering? So much for making a good first impression, she completely failed at her attempt, while having no clue that she did so. Now, not even two sentences into the conversation, the prince would have more than happy to simply walk out of the room without another word. Alas, he had no such option.

Impatience was the man's greatest flaw and unfortunately it was heavily tied into his subdued anger at the elves for nearly killing him all those years ago. It showed now, as one careless, but completely honest, statement already had him ready to put an end to the whole idea of marriage to her and force the two kingdoms back into negotiations. Where politics belonged, in his opinion. Amongst the Royal Family and it's advisors, they knew all too well that he was the worst possible choice for this but they, literally, had nobody else that they could force into the position. There was nothing for it, the prince knew that his hands were tied on the matter and that this was going to happen no matter what he did. Still, smiling in spite of his thoughts, he turned away from her and looked out the window while he placed his hands over one the other behind his back. The room slowly filled with an almost stifling silence, except for the rhythmic clicking of the clock on the wall.

"What a thing for her to say. She says that she wants honesty..?" Deimos thought to himself, regaining his mental composure. "She'll wish she hadn't asked for it, especially if I tell her what is actually on my mind." He'd never had a mind for politics or war, but his ability to manage people and keep everybody happy was what put him in this position. Aside from his obvious royal heritage and lack of suitable replacements, at any rate. Much to his chagrin, this whole scenario was putting him right in his element. Solving problems and keeping everybody happy. Just like another day at the office. "Seeing as you don't expect much of me, then we'll have no need to meet again." He said, after nearly five whole minutes of silence. "Especially, if your only stake in this is to appease your people." The prince's voice no longer carried that cheerful edge it once had, but was replaced, by a voice that that existed only for handling business . Deimos' face betrayed no emotion and his tone revealed no hint as to what his feelings were. If Princess Ilrune wanted this to be a business transaction, then he'd be more than happy to remove the personal stake that he'd brought to the table.

"And the tensions between elf and man are rising,"

From the silence that followed, Ilrune knew she had made a bad move, but that being said, she wasn't sure what else this man expected of her. As if she had internally decided all along what she would do in such a situation, she stated in her calm voice, "As far as I was aware, I thought it was clear to both of us that this arrangement is purely political, if you were mistaken, then I apologise," although she appeared calm, it was a simple defense barrier, as she picked through her plans and options carefully in her mind, looking over to Deimos, noticing that he too had put on a facade of calmness, and continued to speak, "but my motivations are purely to make sure no harm comes to this planet and it's people- both of our people." She added, carefully, but truthfully. While I can't say I like them I can't say I hate them either, war is war after all, indeed, being so young at the time, it wasn't about sides for the young elven child, it was about the brutality that had terrified her so, and moreso, her siblings, the innocent sweet children she had cared for and guarded from the horrors of it all, reinforcing her belief that war should never come to be, if it could be prevented.

His irritation was showing, and so, she turned her gaze elsewhere, and said no more whilst silence spread over the room. Does he really think he's the only one suffering here? I wouldn't exactly be here if it wasn't for my sisters... despite her calm exterior, she couldn't deny that she was mildly annoyed. With one sister who had ran off with her lover, and another younger sister who Ilrune couldn't bear to pass her role unto, politics wasn't her sole motivation. Her sweet little sister, barely seventeen years old, still young and innocent...no, she couldn't flee and ruin the young girls earliest years of life, she had had less time to be a child than any of her siblings, and Ilrune felt that she deserved that time stolen away by war more than anyone.

Apparently as Deimos finally spoke, she could tell that he was thinking about something and was quite clearly annoyed, so she said nothing, allowing him to mull in his anger for as long as he felt fit. Folding her arms, she waited patiently as he turned away from her. Eventually, the silence got to even her, and she knew that whoever was watching them wouldn't be amused, especially when she had angered the man with her honesty. But, even then, she wasn't going to pretend here, that it was anything more than what she had presented it to be, their little arrangement was just that; an arrangement.

Considering the atmosphere, when he finally broke the silence, his words were unsurprising, but she knew she couldn't let the man flee. "You know you can't do that, we both know they're already watching. Unfortunately, we won't be able to leave until they're satisfied." They, were the officials, the guards, the escorts, those who would be keeping a careful eye on everything that went on between them, the messengers of the kings and queens. However, his next statement got to her, if only a little bit, and even if it didn't show. It stung to think that she appeared that cold, even if it was to him, when her stakes were much more personal, ones he didn't know of. One of her strengths, and weaknesses, was that she adored her family, even the sister who had abandoned the role she willingly took up, only so that that very role wouldn't be forced upon her younger sister, one of the many siblings she had mothered during war when her parents were away. He's playing with me, pure and simple, but to expose what really matters to me could either make or break this entire thing, but maybe it'll soften him a little if I'm a little more open about myself.

"It isn't as simple as that you know, and I doubt it is as simple for you either." Ilrune admitted without revealing anything that she felt he might prey upon, unfolding her arms and reaching for a yellow apple, the sweeter kind found deep in the Elven forests, but as sweet as it was, a lot of people often found the flavour overwhelming and thus an appetite for the yellow fruits was considered an acquired taste. Much like not being overwhelmed by the situation she had walked into, the flavour of the fruit she could handle just fine, until the apple turned rotten. She looked at the apple, for a moment, admiring the colour, rolling it gently in her hand so the light that filtered in through the window played upon it pleasantly for a moment, and then, bit into it to be greeted by the sweet rich flavour she knew so well. Taking a moment to allow the flavour to sink in, she swallowed and looked over to the human, wondering if there was anything he himself was hiding. It seemed clear that they both knew each got something from this marriage, but what, neither knew.

This conversation hadn't been going at all like anything he'd thought it would. The woman was being exceptionally stoic about all of this and seriously believed that this was just an arrangement. However, it seemed that she hadn't caught on to the secondary purpose of their meeting. Politics was a game of intrigue and finding the most suitable partners to conduct business with. In the prince's case, there was no possible replacement for him that could be brought within the time constraints that were in effect. The man's elder brothers were already married prior to the war and they had children after the war's end. The oldest of them being only three. Obviously, there would be no suitable arrangement to make that happen when human laws prevented any kind of formal agreement for marriage prior to the age of fifteen. Humanity's hands were tied on the matter, but such wasn't the case for the Elven race.

Sure, Ilrune was one of their princesses, but she is just one of them. The eldest sister, who was supposed to be the one picked for this, chose to elope with one of her kind and by proxy rebel against the idea of marriage to a human. Certainly, by human standards it was a slap in the face and the elves decided to send another of them to replace the eldest one. Deimos had thought it strange when he'd heard that she had volunteered to be married to a human. He thought it was because she actually liked humans. Although, it didn't truly seem to be the case. The only person that could replace Ilrune now was her youngest sister. However, as a whole the humans knew next to nothing about her. Only the fact that she existed and there was somebody with significant influence in the Elven Kingdom that was blatantly protecting her and restricting any information about her. It was long speculated by the various intelligence agencies that it had to be somebody directly related to, if not one of, the Elven Royal Family putting such restrictions on it.

"Oh, is that so..." The prince remarked, choosing to repeat his first response to her again. "I suppose you're correct, to a degree. Part of what I said could become true though." Deciding to let the words hang in the air for a bit, because even he had to choose his next words carefully. Certainly, the woman might be indifferent to him now or a little on they annoyed side, based on how carefully she was hiding her emotions. It wouldn't change the implications that came with what he'd said, although it wouldn't actually be his choice to make, but it could damage the already fragile relations between their races. He couldn't help but smile to himself a little bit. He could imagine that all of the surveillance officers that were monitoring the room were both hanging on their every word and sitting on the edge of their seats at the same time.

"I'd thought that you would have realized it, or maybe you have and just haven't let on that you've figured it out, that our 'meeting' isn't really the kind meeting you're thinking it is." Deimos said, finally tipping his hand to her a little bit. "This is more like a marriage interview, but we don't get to decide whether or not we'll be getting married. Or perhaps calling this a compatibility assessment might be a better choice of words? Either way, the intent is still the same." His footsteps faintly echoed around the room as he took his time getting the point across. The words he chose sure to send the message, but hopefully not anger the princess too much. The goal wasn't to make her mad, but to get Ilrune to realize that there were far more layers to this than she might be realizing. That is, if she hadn't truly been aware this whole time.

The path he chose brought him past the elven princess, almost passing shoulder to shoulder, then moved him back toward the window at the opposite end of the room from before. It might have been hard to judge his intent with the words that he's already said, but the smoke and mirrors were completely removed with what came next. "Humans will completely see through a fake romance. That is why we're doing this right now. Unfortunately, there is nobody to replace me should we not work well together." Deimos said, gazing out the window and then looking down onto the streets below them. "Whoever has been going to the painstaking lengths necessary to keep information about your younger sister from us, might end up with all of that effort being wasted. I can't say much for elves, but humans love to gossip and talk about the love lives of famous people and when our Royal Family is involved you get all kinds of people digging around for anything they can get their hands on to upset the status quo. Fights, arguments, even little things that might show any apparent unhappiness get blown out of proportion and is used wreck public opinion about us. By 'us', I refer to myself and whoever is chosen as the bride-to-be. Not that I like that at all. For a number of reasons."

Ilrune had asked for honesty when they first started talking, but since is impatience led to anger and distracted him, Deimos had completely forgotten about the fact that this wasn't as cut and dry as most political marriages went. There were strings attached to this, so many strings that needed to be lined up perfectly to avoid any kind of entanglement. Basically, whoever he was supposed to marry had to have, metaphorically speaking, perfect compatibility with him. Or at least something so close to it that nobody but those who were extremely close to the prince and princess could notice. He'd basically spelled it out for Ilrune now, eloquently of course, but it still made his heart sink a bit that such a things became necessary. "I was hoping for this to just go smoothly, but I don't think that'll be happening..." Deimos thought to himself, turning to face the woman as he waited for her response. "I don't think she's going to like it, but I had to let her know. She is the one who wanted complete honesty and now she's getting exactly what she asked for."

"And the tensions between elf and man are rising,"

Left alone in their thoughts as the silence returned, Ilrune continued to eat her apple until she finally reached the core through one side, the other side of the fruit still perfectly round and smooth. The words she had spoken had sunk in it seemed for the meantime as he partially agreed with a small section of what she had said, disregarding the rest, letting his next statement hang in the air. Ilrune, unsure of if the man was playing with his words again, mulled it over, before letting it slide into the air, choosing to ignore it.

Ah, so he has figured it out, I was wondering if he knew,
it was something of a relief to think that in terms of that, they were both on the same page. She nodded, "I knew, but it's as simple as I said, I'm doing this for my own reasons." His words didn't anger her as he paced the room, his footsteps, past her and back over to the window. The elf knew that it was a test of sorts, one that she was failing as hard as she'd worked to prepare herself. But as she had been fearing, it wasn't as simple as preparation and exchanging rings.

And his next few words confirmed that; love wasn't something that could be faked, most people would see through it in an instant, even Elves would. If she wanted to make this work, she'd have to be herself, and like it or not, try to form some sort of bond with this human, if was going to be platonic or something more, she hadn't thought about just yet. It was a bit of a shock to hear her sister so casually brought into the conversation as just another potential bride, and it flickered briefly on her calm facial expression. Knowingly or not, he had struck a nerve. How could he so casually talk about her like that? He doesn't know why, he only knows that's she's under protection she reassured herself as she looked towards the apple in her hand and thought for a moment.

"I requested that she be guarded myself, for she is just a child," Ilrune stated in an even voice, knowing by now he would've noticed her reaction to him mentioning her sister, and for a brief moment, there was an odd tone in her voice as she continued on, "the war did things to her, and as she is, we do not wish to burden her." Her sister, her precious sister, the one who she had had to work hardest to protect, was odd. Odd as in she would have nightmares, and would wake up screaming, and almost always seemed to view things the way a child would. Whilst no physical harm had come to her, it was clear as she got older that something was wrong, something was distressing her, and thinking that she had failed in her duty as a sister, Ilrune leapt at the opportunity to make sure no more harm came to the sweet creature, out of guilt for 'failing' her before, or simple sisterly love, she did not know anymore. Hearing the tone of her own voice, she released a quiet sigh, then took another breath.

"I was hoping it would be a much more simple matter, but I understand, and I shall try my best to make this work." Green eyes looked distantly towards the window, mirroring the forest now far away. It seemed that the only thing she could do was try her best to get along with him, and hope that they would bond along the way. It wasn't a simple thing, she had said so herself, and she knew it might take time for herself to get used to Deimos, yet alone bond with him to a point of friendship, if not love. And right then as she shifted her attention back to him, she wasn't sure if she could love him, or even appear so now that they both had acknowledged a picture perfect romance would be nearly impossible to stage. But she had to try, she knew she couldn't walk away without doing at least that.

It seemed that the two of them were on the same page now. At the very least, she understood that she was the one who had most of the attention of the people monitoring them, however, they still had to pay attention to Deimos because if he showed any problems working with her then that might also lead to Ilrune being replaced. The prince really didn't have an issue with her, but she seemed to be rather stubbornly bent on hiding things from him. Her reaction, although very brief, did show that his mention of her little sister did have an effect on the woman. Despite their naturally strong composure, it seemed that even the elves would break face if you stuck a nerve hard enough. Now that the air had been cleared he could start trying to get to the root of things.

It didn't take half of the time that Deimos was thinking it would though, since she very quickly opened up about her younger sister's trauma from the war. "She can overcome that though, given enough time and good counseling. Hiding her away might actually worsen the condition." The human said, actually sounding strangely worried about it. "I've had a similar experience myself, but I was given good help and time to recover. Although, I daresay that my experience was very likely to be a bit more... extreme." Subconsciously, he'd reached up with his right hand and touched his chest near the left shoulder, a place where the injuries had been especially severe and still caused him some degree of pain to this day. It wasn't something that he planned on mentioning if he could help it, but given the fact that the both of them might be expected to produce children rendered his quiet hope to being basically moot. Turning his attention back to the matter at hand though, they needed to start figuring out things about one another. Not knowing things would led to a significant number of problems down the road.

"All of that aside, I think this put us off to a bad start. All things considered." Deimos admitted, with a wry grin on his face. "How about just just take turns asking simple questions? We can just follow that wherever it takes us. I'd like you to start, since I'd imagine you would have something to say to me. Even if it were a few choice words, it'd be a start." This time around, he wasn't concealing anything from her, he'd answer with every bit of truth that he could find. After all, she still had a rather significant chance at being chosen as the bride-to-be and Deimos wanted to make sure that the air between them stayed free and clear of anything that could cause them some unnecessary strain down the road. AFter moving away from the window, he approached the bowl of fruit on the table and smoothly removed a green skinned apple from it. These were apples that had been grown on the colony ships and were originally grown on the human homeworld.

While slightly bitter in nature, the human still found that he preferred these to the slightly sweet red apples that were also from the colony fleet's orchards and vastly prefered them over the almost sickeningly sweet yellow apples, humans referring to them as Elven Apples, that grew naturally on this world. He then moved over to the table and moved his chair, which was at the far side of the table, closer to where Ilrune was sitting and then planted himself upon it. Taking a quiet bite out of the apple, the gentle bitterness filled the man's mouth and helped him to relax a little bit more by giving him a distraction to keep him from overthinking things. He was supposed to be working together with her, not trying to find faults in her. Now that he knew the true situation with her sister, he'd completely ceased probing for faults in Ilrune and, in fact, planned on helping her so that the woman's younger sister wouldn't be called in as a substitute. Even if she tried to refuse the assistance.

"And the tensions between elf and man are rising,"

"I wish it was that simple, but then again maybe she'll just heal in her own time, who knows," Ilrune looked at the apple in her hand. Indeed, her sister had had plenty of time and help, but she hadn't seemed to make much progress save for the face that she seemed particularly attached to Ilrune and would often go to her if she was having a particularly bad day and it saddened her to see the girl in such a state. It also saddened the elf to think that Deimos had been through the same thing, as she had seen what it could do to a person, especially psychologically. Even scars from the most brutal of attacks fade, but you can't forget the past, it was as simple as that, and it was a dangerous thing. She looked back up at Deimos whose hand had moved to his shoulder, almost as if it were sore, "I'm sorry you had to experience that." It was a genuine statement that allowed her caring nature to flicker through even her old habit of appearing calm quickly returned

Smiling awkwardly she nodded, and tried to think of what she wanted to ask him, and settled her eyes momentarily on the apple he held, one she had never tried or at least hadn't found in the walls of her home as she thought, then spoke, "What do you like to do for fun?" She finished off the rest of her apple, and placed the core into a small grey metal bin and watched the man she knew little to nothing about, now actually a little curious as she had never seen the man off of the ship, unlike his siblings who she knew lived on Iuphus. The elf couldn't stand being cooped up, and she often carved to pass the time, or hunted out in the woods although of course, due to recent events that lead up to her meeting the gentle faced man in front of her, she had had less and less free-time, having being so focused on preparing herself. And to think it doesn't even matter in the end, Ilrune smiled a little at the thought, finding irony in it even if talking was just the few first steps, it's better than having to pretend all the time anyway.

Ilrune definitely felt a little more comfortable with that in mind, and waited quietly to see what Deimos would have to say, wondering what he did all day up in the odd metal machine called a ship, the humans had named 'Sol' which was often visible from higher lands. Of course the humans had kept the ship in orbit, just in case they should need to visit Iuphus's surface, and it was a enormous metal...thing. The elf had never gotten used to the sight of it, as to her, it just looked strange, even a little scary as a small part of her associated the ship with the smaller ships who had bombed the elves long ago, even though she knew that it was a mostly irrational anxiety nowadays, as the humans had shown no intent of firing at them again. What do they even do up there? she wondered idly, knowing only that they grew some fruit and animals from their home planet up there.

Watching her carefully allowed him to catch, even if only for a split second, of an apparently concerned expression crossing her features. Which struck him as very contrary to that typically stoic mask she wore, but was a good sign nonetheless. They had been speaking with one another for naught more than fifteen minutes now and the fact that she was still trying to hide her reactions was slightly frustrating to him. In fact, it made the human want to pinch her cheeks and pull them to get her to make some other kind of other expression for more than a breif second. Deimos hadn't expected her to be so fixated on remaining calm. Surely he wasn't that intimidating, was he? There was really no way for him to know without asking her, but that would be a question for another time. It was more important to keep her talking and try to get Ilrune to relax a bit more. By his estimation, she still seemed to be rather tense.

"For fun? I usually read books." He readily answered, having no need to phrase anything in a special way. "Although, when I actually get the time, I like to go stargazing. Up in space, we don't have to wait for nightfall to see the stars. You just have to look out one of the viewports and you can see billions of them and in every color you can imagine. Even though I've spent most of my life watching them, it doesn't get tiring. In fact, I find it to be particularly relaxing myself." Humans weren't terribly sure what an elf might do for recreation, but seeing as the vast majority of those on the planet right now were born in space, many humans typically did activities that focused more on mental ability and mostly did physical types of activity during the day when they worked. Physical health was something that had been stressed since long before they had arrived on Iuphus and there were mandated physical activity times every day to prevent the crews and passengers from growing too physically weak to perform any jobs that might be expected of them in the event of an emergency.

Having answered her question, it was now his turn to ask the elf about something. He'd considered what he might ask for days now, but still didn't have something that he absolutely wanted to ask first. A thoughtful expression emerged on his features as he pondered what he might ask her about. Instead of asking something personal, Deimos thought it might be more prudent for him to ask her about how she viewed things, instead of what she does. "Okay, my turn then. Let's see..." The human said, looking out the window briefly and then turning back to her. "What is your personal opinion about Humanity as a whole? I've always wanted to ask an elf about it, but I've been told that many of them are still resent the outcome of the war and that extremist groups want to get back to the fighting." Sure, it might not have been the most appropriate topic to touch on, but the prince felt that her opinion of humanity would show in her actions.

Therefor, instead of waiting to find out the hard way, it might be better if she told him straight to his face. He was still unsure himself about how he viewed the elves. His view was slightly skewed due to the fact that one nearly killed him when he was a child. Even if Deimos knew that it wasn't right to judge the whole race based on one person's actions, but at the end of the day, negative experiences like that were difficult to ignore to say the least. Many of the politicians that were part of the human government still harbored some violent tensions with them due to their personal losses during the war and were slightly unhappy with the Royal Family for deciding to go for peace instead of authorizing the use of more destructive armaments to eliminate any elven settlements that were close to where they wanted to build their new homes and businesses.

The youngest prince agreed with his mother and father's choice though, even if he still retained a slight grudge against the elves. Other than the simple fact that he was the only person who could fulfil his current role, it was a sense of wanting to do right by others that motivated Deimos to take this position seriously and not let his personal feelings get in the way. Especially since would soon be wedded to an elf. Coming back from his own thoughts, he patiently looked at Ilrune as he awaited her answer.

"And the tensions between elf and man are rising,"

Noticing that the man gave her an odd and perhaps a slightly frustrated look, Ilrune noticed that she was still acting to a small degree and shook herself out of it, wanting to make him a little more comfortable. But it wasn't an easy habit to kick, the young lady having been groomed for royalty for a long two years, but she assumed she would get used to acting naturally around Deimos as soon as she got used to him. Offering what she hoped was a friendly smile she leant into her chair and listened quietly.

Reading and stars....he does seem like the quiet type, Ilrune could relate to the second hobby of his, the stars were rather beautiful even if Elves had only seen them from afar. Ilrune smiled agreeingly, "The cosmos are rather beautiful, I see them on night hunting trips." Sometimes, it was easiest to snare a kill at night, by going out and setting up snares and clever traps which required delicate hand work and a lot of patience, especially if you wanted to get one of the more elusive creatures that hid in the elven forests, or if you wanted to gather, at night you could find some hidden plants that glowed in the dark, a warning for predators to stay away, but a tell-tale sign for gatherers.

Satisfied with his answer, she waited patiently as he thought for a few quiet moments, surprisingly calm and relaxed; and it wasn't a facade this time. His question surprised her, and instead of hiding her surprise, she let it show, knowing it was pointless to hide anything now, and then assumed a thoughtful expression. The humans she had seen for the first time as a five-year old, had struck her as selfish reckless and scary, but she was quickly hidden away by her parents to a safe place with her siblings, and other than being terrified by the raging war, she hadn't really seen any humans up-close until the war was over. Even then she was royalty, so of course she was a little sheltered, but as she matured, she knew that it wasn't any 'side''s fault really, and what became the most important thing to her was helping prevent any more conflict if she could.

"Scary, reckless, selfish at first," she admitted carefully, after picking through what would sound the least offensive, but her eyes which looked at Deimos showed no anger, or hate, only a little uncertainty, "I was young and impressionable, but I blame neither human or elf for the war. The losses were terrible for both sides, and in the end I'm just glad it's over." The fights had been long and brutal and when you looked at the two battered species at the end of it all; neither side had gained anything worth the bloodshed. Ilrune sighed, "It's true, many elves are still set on fighting, but I have no problem with our current position, it would be wrong to keep Iuphus to ourselves when you humans would have nowhere else to go. Whilst we have our differences, I can't say I hate your kind." Ilrune said honestly, and then added with a smile, "I really hope we can exist peacefully together someday."

After a moment of quiet thinking over the questions she could ask, she decided to return the favour, "And you?" She looked into his eyes and to the window peacefully, before looking back to him, and adding kindly, "You needn't hold back, I understand." It was expected that due to his subtle hint of having suffered trauma from the war, that he might hold a few grudges, and Ilrune thought it best that if they were honest with one another so if they could eventually work past them. Even for her, it had been and was still a little odd being so close to a human, although she was getting used to it rather quickly, due the only real difference between them being their lifestyles and ears, although she did look at the unfamiliar hair colours of the humans at times when she saw them, so used to the varying shades of yellows oranges and greens of the elves she knew.

The answer she gave him wasn't unsurprising, but the fact that she showed her surprise did catch him a little off guard and that made him smile a little bit. It looked like she was finally starting to relax a little bit. Deimos hadn't thought she was the kind of person to hold a grudge to begin with, but this basically confirmed that. Now, the woman redirected that same question at him, which was reasonable, but not one that he'd expected to be answering so soon. The man had certainly given it thought in the past and it was something that he still took into consideration every now and then, but nevertheless the prince hadn't really come to a conclusion regarding how he felt about elves. The farthest it went was him believing that elves weren't all bad people and that it wasn't right for him to take his grudge out on an entire race due to the actions of one of their kind. It felt like the moment of truth was upon him though, as the words echoed around the room.

Much like Ilrune had, he took a thoughtful pose and munched a little bit more on the apple while considering what she had said as well as what he truly believed and eventually came to a conclusion, for once. "I'd say that I don't dislike elves, but I can't say that they don't worry me." He answered in a subdued tone. "I've had a rather negative run in with an elf in the past, but I also realize that I can't just hate an entire race for what she did. I suppose it's a rather complicated feeling for me, but that is the best I can do at explaining it." Truthfully, while Deimos answered to the best of his ability, the man wanted to put that subject behind them. MOstly because he didn't want to have her try and dig on the matter. It was a painful subject for him, in all senses of the word, and not something that he often talked about. With anybody, for that matter. Now that it was his turn to ask something, it made it easier to move on to a different subject. Which suited the man perfectly at the moment.

"Let's go with something a little bit further away from politics this time. Let's try clothes, I hear that women like to shop for clothes, but I don't know if that is the same for elven women. What kind do you like wearing?" He asked, while taking a moment to examine her clothes. "I basically get to design my own clothes, to a degree, but I've always thought it'd be fun to try shopping for clothes that aren't as flashy as what I've been required to wear all my life. These are the least flashy clothes that they would allow me to wear, in fact." In many of the books he'd read over the years, or at least the ones that pertained to romance, there had always been some kind of shopping date that happened and it traditionally led to a deeper understanding of one another. Of course, there were exceptions to the idea and those times usually lead to some kind of fight between the protagonists. Deimos still thought it'd be fun to try, regardless of what the outcome would be.

"And the tensions between elf and man are rising,"

His answer was expected and she remained unsurprised upon hearing that he was a little wary of elves- both races seemed to keep an eye on the other most days, mostly out of habit, and if he had had an extreme and negative experience with an elve in the past it was only natural. Even Ilrune glanced up at the ships in the sky sometimes. He didn't seem like the type to hold a grudge, and if even if he did, he didn't seem like he wanted to act on it. Deimos, seemed a little uncomfortable from his subdued voice and Ilrune knew that that was the time to change the subject, and waited politely for him to pick his next question.

As she had predicted he was keen to change the subject and asked her about her clothing preferences. It was true that girls liked shopping for clothing, and Ilrune didn't mind looking around for something new that she could wear when she wasn't required to wear her usual regal attire, and truth be told she only really had the option of her large wardrobe in her room, all outfits that were deemed suitable for a young high elf, varying from gowns to outdoor outfits. "It's similar for me, I always need to wear a suitable outfit, but I don't mind really," she smiled, she had always accepted her duty as a royal without fuss, and the clothing given to her she actually quite liked as it was comfortable and pleasing to the eye, although she liked choosing her own clothes when she got the chance and normally went for something airy and colourful when she did get to choose, "if I had to say what I preferred though, I like colourful lightweight clothing best, it's pretty." Her outfit was made out a lightweight material, despite how costly it looked and Ilrune liked that it was also easy to move in whilst looking pleasant. From Deimos comment about his outfit being one of the least flashiest outfits he was allowed to wear she looked it over, and it was a rather subdued yet elegant choice, brightened up with the fur lining which she now assumed he may or may not have been coerced into wearing. But it suited him and she told him so with a smile, "Your style suits you."

Remembering to steer clear of politics as she thought up a question she looked towards the window and saw the position of the sun which indicated it was nearing midday, which brought to mind the subject of food, which was a good as subject as any, "What food do you like? I noticed they've brought down some green apples for today as well as some yellows. I like the yellows most personally, although it is an acquired taste." Seeing as it was nearing that time of day, she reached into the bowl and plucked up an odd looking berry, which was a pale white-pink colour, which grew near the lands around the citadel, known for their rich fruity yet bitter flavour, which many merchants made jams out of. It was about the size of a fingertip and was smooth to the touch, and if you sliced it you would find out that the inside of the fruit was a light yellow. Ilrune looked at the pretty berry before eating it, savouring the refreshing flavour that it was so popular because of.
