A month had passed since the graduating class of Hogwarts had left it’s hallowed halls for good. Celebrations had been had and the harsh light of reality waited on the edge of the graduates minds like traps waiting to snap. These days, however, the students were enjoying their last bits of freedom in the mid-July heat. The summer had kicked it up with the heat and made a point to ruin all air conditioning if it could get away with it. With the heat, though, there was a hint of danger brewing. Whispers of a dark power coming to rise had made waves through the wizarding world. In the last year alone, this dark power had made all of those of un-pure blood undesirables. Half-bloods were no much better but were tolerated. Recent attacks had brought to light the idea that this threat was very real and very, very dangerous.

The papers were full of abductions and the Ministers promise to catch those responsible. Attacks on muggles and those who were impure were becoming more common. People were afraid to leave their homes in anticipation they would be preyed upon next. There were stories of wizards being cursed and forced to do things against their will. The Ministry was having a field day sorting those cases out, or so Gemma Hughes’ father had told her. As part of the interrogative team of Auror’s that handled smaller cases of violence, her father had spoken to many of the people who had supposedly been cursed into doing the bidding of the “Dark Lord” (so they called him). The real name of this threat had only been circulated in whispers- Voldemort. No one dare say it much louder, it seemed taboo to do so.

On this day, however, everything had seemed alright. There hadn’t been an attack in almost a month and the abductions had decreased to maybe one this week alone. Perhaps the heat was too stifling for evil. Gemma had a light chuckle to herself at the thought, continuing down a dirt path that led to the park. Her dark brown hair was pulled back in a tight bun to keep it from sticking to her skin that had a slight sheen on sweat on it. She wore a dark blue tank top and jean short with sandals. It was too hot for anything else, really. Over her shoulder was a thin backpack that contained a thick volume, several notebooks, and a couple of pens her brother had brought home from his job at a muggle bank. While Gemma had been gifted with magic as her father had, her brother had not been so lucky and had taken after their mum, who was a muggle. Gemma’s parents had one more child, a seven month old girl who had not yet shown which parent she had taken after. She secretly hoped she had no magic; it would make her safe from the world that was so dangerous now.

Finding tree unoccupied with plenty of shade, Gemma sat at the base of the tree and opened her bag, pulling out the workbook that had St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries scrawled over the cover in large gold print. Gemma had decided on becoming a healer in her fifth year at Hogwarts. Her grades were above average and she got her proper N.E.W.T.’s that allowed for her to take on a job at St. Mungo’s. The book she was working out of had to be memorized and she had taken to copying it page for page in an attempt to do that. As of this day, she was nearly to the midway point but she was only doing so now while she waited on her friends. It had been a while since they’d left school and last seen each other and a plan had been arranged for a group meetup.

July was a horrid month James Potter had determined. It was too bright, too hot, too full of bugs. Everything at July was horrible and he doubted anything would change his mind on that. Why is friends had insisted on them hanging out in this weather was beyond him. He’d suggested the Leaky Cauldron or somewhere else where they might be cool and thusly more comfortable. As was usual, his opinion was drowned out with one the majority voted in affirmation on. Remus had sent him an owl ahead saying to be in the park by eleven-thirty. It was now eleven-thirty-eight according to the watch around his wrist. James couldn’t recall a time in his life he had ever been exactly on time. Remus would be proud that at least this time James would only be ten minutes late. Continuing down the dirt path through the bright green fields, James observed the other groups and families enjoying the bright sun. It brought a smile to his features.

Almost to the lake at the end of the path, James’ features turned down as he found his friends were not here yet. Stopping his tracks, he looked around, eventually hearing his name being called. He spun around on his heels to find a dark haired girl waving his down. He recognized her as Gemma Hughes, one of Remus’ Ravenclaw friends that hung out with them every now and then. Flashing her a grin, he trotted over and sat next to her.
You know school is over right?” he asked, pointing to her book and notes. “ Studying is no long required.

James leaned back against the tree, not seeing the girl’s eye roll.
It’s for my job, Potter,” she had sighed, going back to her work.

Opening one brown eye, he scanned the pages of her work, noting they were similar to the text in the book, almost word for word. He thought to ask about that but thought better, remembering how testy Remus got when he was studying. Closing his eyes once more, he folded his arms behind his head.
Remus said to be here at eleven-thirty. Where is everyone?” he asked, keeping his eyes closed. It was a short second before his question was answered by the girl, starting with a light laugh.
You have been deceived, my friend. Everyone should get here at about noon. I just wanted to be a bit early to get some work in.

Mentally cursing, James pursed his lips and eventually shrugged. He’d surprise everyone for sure. He had spent most of his summer trying to figure out what to do with his life. His parents were encouraging and supportive whatever he decided to do. If he really wanted, he didn’t need to work. His family was old and had more money than he would ever earn in his lifetime. They were already helping Remus out since his condition meant he was not likely to get a job anytime soon. His grades and work ethic were overshadowed by their climates prejudice. James had decent grades of course and with his family name he could do anything, he imagined. The only job that seemed interesting enough was to become an Auror. He’d thought about it in school but there never seemed a need to get a job. He had wanted to goof off forever, play pranks and hang out with his mates. He’d given up on Lily years ago, determining he’d never have a shot.

As the days passed though, the need for something to do was becoming harder to satisfy. There was plenty to do in the Ministry, he’d heard his father talk about it at dinner before his mother scolded him for bringing work up at the dinner table. Perhaps he’d make a trip with his father this week and check out what there was to offer. For now, though, he would relax in the shade and wait for his friends. You’re only young once.

Clarissa Fairall had decided today was just a truly horrible day. She had work up at an ungodly hour in the morning to bake foods that if she were being truly honest with herself- no one was going to purchase. Not just because of the fact that it had been swelteringly hot even then, but because no one was even venturing in Diagon Alley to go to Gringotts let alone to buy breakfast on the way to work, or have a leisurely cup of tea. A bad time to inherit a failing business. It had been better than the alternative though- wasting away doing nothing. Plus- it afforded her a small flat right above the bakery, and allowed her to live off of the meager funds her parents had left her before they had disappeared into the unknown.

Dark days indeed. She supposed she had needed the break, even if it was a dangerous time to meet for a half blood. She supposed she was safer than a lot of people she knew, but really, how long was it until the Ministry of Magic asked for all Half-blood witches and wizards to report to the ministry for identification like they were doing with the muggle-borns? Probably not long. The thought made her stick to her stomach. Still, at quarter till eleven she closed her shop up, changed into a pair of scrappy sandals, pulled her hair up into a high ponytail, and apparated into a small section of woods at the park.

She let out a small strangled yelp as her foot slipped over a tree root and she went tumbling to the ground, landing in an awkward pile on the ground. She wasn't overly tall, standing maybe at five foot two, so whenever she fell- she was always guaranteed to hurt herself and become overly dirty at the same time. She pushed herself to her feet slowly, wiping as much dirt off her white-washed jean shorts and her teal, lace covered tank top as she could, cringing as she saw her knees bleeding.

"Of course, how wonderful" she murmured. This- this was why she didn't exactly cherish the wilderness. Somehow it always managed to hurt her. She blew her bangs out of her face, checking her wristwatch before she emerged from the trees, starting down the small path that led to the lake. Unless they were swimming, or having a picnic, she didn't know why they were here. The asphalt was so warm, the rubber of her shoes was practically melting to it as she walked. She was about ready to say to hell with it and leave when she spotted a familiar head of messy hair. James Potter. He was looking almost unfairly good despite the heat, and was surprisingly early. Remus must have tricked him.

"James" she called out with a small wave "Gemma, crappy weather we're having today isn't it!" she said as cheerfully as she could muster, padding across the crass to them and flopping down on the ground beside James, letting out an unhappy sigh as the shade really did nothing to combat against the heat. She tossed an arm over her eyes in agitation. Not that she didn't adore waiting, or spending time with her friends, but it felt so different now. It wasn't school, it wasn't carefree. They hadn't talked in a long time, everyone had gone their separate ways and were starting on new endeavors and it didn't seem like they needed each other more. She wasn't sure what they were supposed to do today besides recollect on old memories- and suddenly, she felt melancholy.

Maybe today would be as sucky as the weather indicated it would be. Best case scenario? Someone would have a plan. The Ravenclaw in her really hated not having a plan. Maybe they would have icecream- or.... ice. God she was warm. "Did Remus say what we were supposed to be doing here?" she asked moving her arm back just enough to be able to see them. She glanced at Gemma and raised an eyebrow "Are you studying?" she asked feeling amused. Maybe it would be more like school than she thought, maybe it could be fun. Hopefully she was wrong, and the bad feeling she had was just an upset stomach. Yep. Just an upset stomach.

A loud yawn passed unstifled through Sirius's Black's lips as he walked, really only half awake through the streets of London next to Remus who had physically arrived on his doorstep to wake him up. He wasn't sure he was quite grateful for that or not. Even though school had ended Sirius's sleeping habits hadn't changed, and as he had been excommunicated and cast from his family (Of which is wasn't sad about since they were terrible people anyway) he had to find a job after school. Not so hard for the eldest Black family son, even if he was a disgrace as people said. Still, his name came with a reputation and that meant it was hard for people to begin to trust him. The Black family was not known for being the nicest of peoples. Purebloods that band wagoned onto the Pureblood agenda.

He rolled his shoulder, trying to stretch the haze of sleep from his body. He had foolishly made the decision in school that what better way to stick it to his family and show the world he was not the same as them, than becoming a n Auror? It had taken awhile but he had finally gotten into the training program, and it was grueling hours, taking a lot of beatings, and having hardly any free time that he didn't spend sleeping. He enjoyed it, and it did pay for him to be able to live by himself, and not off of the Potters. He loved that family, and he knew they wouldn't mind having him around, they were more a family to him than his own, but he had gotten to the point where that just wasn't something he could do anymore, especially since they had been kind enough to help support Remus.

He glanced over tiredly at his old friend who looked like he hadn't been sleeping well himself and sighed, running his fingers through his hair which surprisingly enough had been given a real haircut a week ago and made him feel almost naked, his long locks were temporarily gone. He would survive- but still. He felt a sense of loss at the hair. Didn't mean women found him any less attractive which he was thankful for, he still had the face of a god. "Where on earth are we going Remus?" he finally demanded, making a face as he loosened the fabric of his shirt from where it was trying to stick to the sweat on his body. Who had pissed off the weather? Why on earth had he thought jeans were a good idea today?

"Calm yourself Sirius" his friend replied, folding the map he had been staring at with an intense focus and coming to a stop, pulling out his wand. "We're going to a park, remember? To have a bit of muggle fun, enjoy the weather, relax, be around friends" he said "Ready?" he asked holding his arm out to Sirius- who grudgingly took it. He would apparatus himself but he hadn't paid much attention to where Remus had said they were going.

"Who can enjoy this weather?" he muttered under his breath, his grey eyes glowering at his friend who just smiled at him. "Don't splinch me" he told him threateningly. Remus merely rolled his eyes and away they went. He felt almost like he couldn't breathe because his insides were trying to squish their way out of his body, and then it was over and they landed with a faint pop on some dirt off to the side of what appeared to be a well used walkway heading towards what smelled like water. Somehow, it was even hotter here than it had been before. "Oh for the love of merlin!" Sirius complained. That was it, he had to get out of these jeans- and he was sure he wouldn't be rewarded for public indecency so he did the only thing he could think of, and in a few seconds a large shaggy (Well he looked neatly groomed right now) black dog appeared in his place. He was right, it was cooler this way.

If he had been inches human form he would have laughed at Remus' cry of outrage and the beginnings of his "Are you out of your mind" speech but instead he sniffed the air, smelled the familiar scent of his best friend and without further delay took off, bounding across the grass and the asphalt until he spotted three familiar heads of hair. He let out a loud bark and howl as he headed for them- Remus running after him and calling his name. James was right, perhaps Sirius should really consider staying a dog, it was very nice this way.

Gemma looked to see the new guest that had joined her and James. She smiled at Clarissa and gave her greeting, setting the pen she had been holding down on the page she stopped on. Gemma didn’t have many friends but this small group was the closest she had. While she hadn’t spent as much time with them as they had with each other (different houses and all that), she had grown closer to the group in their final years at school. She was grateful for the group.
Wotcher, Clarissa. Weather could be better, yea.” she replied, ignoring the cringe that crossed James’ features at the comment.
If by better you mean a thousand degrees less than the temperature of the sun.” He was shielding his eyes now.
Gemma rolled her eyes and closed her book. She still had a ways to go and she had to remind herself that this was a day for relaxing, not working. It was a struggle some days to get out of work mode when she had the days off. There was much she had seen and done for people already and sometimes there was a problem getting to the state of relaxation that most people seemed to be a natural at.

Not anymore,” she smiled, shoving the book and notebook into the back pack and sitting to the side of the tree, stretching her tan legs out and brushing the dirt and leaves from her skin. “I can heal those knee’s up for you quick, if you like. No scars, promise.” She had learned a lot in her short time with the Hospital and part of her was eager to try her new magic skills on someone who wasn’t unconscious.

Remus told me something about swimming in his last owl. I’m hoping by swimming he means somewhere cooler and indoors with air conditioning. This heat is killer.
Gemma looked over the watch facing up on James’ wrist to check the time. It was close to noon and Remus was never late. James and Sirius, yes, but never Remus. It had been a while since she’d seen any of her friends and if it weren’t for Remus she would have no idea what was happening with anyone. Between her busy work schedule and studying she hardly slept let alone kept in touch with friends and family.

Her thoughts were broken by a stream of howls, barks, and yelling. Before she could peer around the tree to see the commotion, a large black dog bounded up in front the small group, causing James to burst into hysterics. Remus came trotting behind seconds later, panting out of breath.
Remus, I didn’t know you had a dog,” she smiled, reaching out to pet the black dog that had stopped within her arms reach. “He certainly is handsome. Though, you named him after Sirius?
Remus’ expression was mild horror at her comments and he turned to glare at the dog.
Well, you know, Sirius is kind of a dog,” James laughed, his cheeks red from the heat and laughter.
Remus scowled and Gemma shook her head, scratching the dog behind it’s ears smiling softly.
Speaking of, where is Sirius? I thought he was coming with you?” Remus opened his mouth to answered but was swiftly cut off by James, “Where indeed.” he snickered.

It took a moment for James to regain his composure. He had forgotten that Gemma didn’t know about the three animagi sitting around her. She knew of Remus, they’d been better friends like that. However, watching her sit and scratch his best mate behind the ears as she was, was downright hilarious and James couldn’t help but snicker.

Moony you would not guess what this friend of yours was doing just now! Studying! Like we were in school!” James attempted to draw attention away from Sirius’ stunt by pulling it elsewhere and the only other person doing anything out of the ordinary was Gemma. He dodged her quick backhand, knocking into Clarissa’s shoulder. “Lookit what you made me do. Hurt poor Clarissa here.” He threw a mock scold in Gemma’s direction and grabbed the blonde’s shoulders, shaking her gently. “Look! She’s comatose! She’ll never be the same!

It was at this point he realized the unamused expressions of his other companions and narrowed his eyes, releasing Clarissa and brushing her shoulders lightly, begrudgingly apologizing.
Were you at least studying anything interesting?” Remus asked, slight annoyance still on his features.
Kind of. I was reading about animagi who went unregistered and the crap luck they got along with it. This one guy in France was trying to spy on his wife as a lab and ended up with a permanent tail and floppy ears and no wife.” Gemma seemed amused by the story, as did Remus actually. This caused James to scowl this time, turning his attention to the girl beside him.

How has your summer been so far?” he asked, pointedly ignoring the trio behind him.

Clarissa had almost managed to get her mouth open to say that- yes she would have liked her knees healed when a large black dog barreled around the corner- a distraught Remus following after, and James promptly burst into hysterics. She understood why, and instantly felt bad for Gemma. It really wasn't fair to keep such a secret from the girl, but it wasn't her secret to tell. It was a secret she had stumbled upon by accident during her sixth year when she had been up late attempting to study for her potions exam. They never did do a good job not changing forms in view of a window.

She shook her head at the thought. They didn't seem to have changed much. "As we know Remus seems to be in charge of keeping all manner of idiocy at bay, I imagine caring for a dog, even one has out of control and childish as this one is simply second nature to him by now" she commented, wiggling her fingers in the fluffy dogs direction and raising an amused eyebrow at the growl of irritation she received. "Bad dog. That type of language is not nice" she said with a small chuckle, letting out an oof as James bumped into her shoulder- nearly knocking her over, her neck tweaking uncomfortably as he shook her. She wasn't comatose, and he was just making her angry by shaking her. It was already unfortunately hot out.

She gave a small smile as he apologized to her and brushed off her shoulders.
"My summer?" she asked, looking away from the topic of people who unfortunately couldn't become an Animagus correctly or the problems. Ironic. James probably wasn't too thrilled to hear that if he transformed incorrectly he could accidentally be stuck with antlers for life. She tried not to laugh. "My summer.... well.... I took over my fathers bakery" she told him "We've had no business and my parents disappeared off the face of the planet" she said "I'm a great big ball of sunshine, how was your summer?" she asked him, sighed as she practically breathed in the heat. She was casting her vote for an air-conditioned room too.

She threw herself back onto the grass, folding her arms underneath her head as she closed her eyes, trying to feel like she wasn't being cooked alive. Maybe this could be relaxing, if like James said- the sun could lower its heat output by like a thousand degrees.

Sirius glowered, growling as Clarissa called him a child. A CHILD. He was not a child. She hadn't seen him in months so really how would she know but still- it hurt. He let his tongue fall happily out of his mouth as Gemma continued to scratch him behind his ears. It did feel good, but the amount of hair covering his body was making him feel like he was dying. He supposed it was time to change. He stretched leisurely as he stood up on all fours and after giving Gemma a good long lick to the face he took off into the woods. Once he felt he was inside and unseen he changed back, running his finger through his hair as he shook himself. It always took awhile to feel right once he became a human again. Not only being on two feet instead of four.

He scratched his arm absentmindedly, staring forlorn at his jeans. It would just have to do. Jean shorts didn't seem like something he wanted to start at the moment. He yawned, making his way to the little road that led back to his friends. It would be a bit of a walk. God it was sweltering. He shoved his hands into his pockets, taking his sweet time, raising one of them in a small was of hello when his friends popped into his sight. "Prongs!!" he called happily "Moony!" he said "I'm sure you guys missed me dearly! I apologize for being late, just couldn't help doing a little bit of... running around" he said, plopping languidly next to Gemma.

Remus glowered at him "Running around? We're sure that's probably true. Running around and driving people crazy" he said, turing back to look at Gemma. "So the man didn't learn how to do it correctly? Becoming an Anigmagi is advanced magic. Not just anyone can accomplish it- to use it for something so trivial as spying on ones wife- well that's just lunacy"

Sirius resisted the urge to stick his tongue out at his friend. He got that message loud and clear, but like all lectures coded in secrecy or not, it went in one ear or out the other.

"Gemma, you're looking lovely today" he said "You too Clarissa. Has anyone seen Peter?" he asked "I haven't seen much of him recently, anyone know what he's up to?" he asked again. Not that he minded. Peter always made him feel a little uncomfortable, following them around. More of a stalker than a friend, and he always had this weird glint to his eye, like he would devour them if he could. Sirius shrugged the thought away as he wrapped an arm loosely around her. "So- what are the plans for today? Do they involve food? Because I for one am starving"

Gemma whined in protest as the dog licked her face. As much as she loved dogs, she hated their slobber and hated even more to be licked by them. Gemma quickly used the back of her arm to wipe away the wet trail on her face, a look of disgust twisting her features. She watched the dog take off towards the woods and her brows furrowed.
Shouldn’t you go after him? He could get hurt out here,” she said, turning to look at Remus.
The sandy-haired boy shook his head, “He always manages to find his way home. One way or another.
Gemma frowned and leaned back against the tree once more. She’d never had a dog in her family so she wasn’t sure of these things but it was Remus’ dog and he would know better than she how it would behave.

A few minutes of silence passed before they were joined Sirius who gave his greetings and sat down. She watched the exchange between Remus and Sirius in suspicion but gave up quickly knowing it was probably an inside joke they’d not be overly willing to share. There was something different about Sirius, though and it finally dawned.
Look at you all cleaned up,” she teased, ruffling his short hair and nudging his arm with her elbow, “Never thought I’d see the day Sirius Black chopped off that shaggy mop of hair.” Sirius was as handsome as always and the shorter hair he was now sporting only did more to highlight the better parts of his features. Gemma would be lying if she said she hadn’t been one of the many admirers he’d had in school but she had given that up when she realized he’d never see her as more than anything other than Remus’ bookish friend. It was just as well. Gemma didn’t date often and now days had no time for it.

James turned from his companion to answer Sirius’ question, “He said he would be unable to join us. Something about having some things to take care of and too busy.” he shrugged and turned his attention back to Clarissa.
Gemma was a little relieved at the information. Peter had always given her an uncomfortable feeling in her stomach when he was around and she made sure to keep her distance and watched what she said. There was something untrustworthy about him but since she’d had no justification on the feelings, she kept It to herself mostly. No need to ruffle any feathers when there was no need.

Food sounds fantastic, actually. Gets us out of the heat and gives us something to do,” Gemma grinned and peered over at the other two. Remus gave a small protest as he’d wanted to do something while they were here. The lake a short distance from them had been rumored to be a great swimming hole. However, he was outnumbered in the amount of people who wanted to do otherwise. “Fortiscues sounds lovely, actually. We could go there?” Gemma proposed.

James did his best to block out the conversation of incorrect transformations. He’d read the books and theories and he’d chosen to accept that risk for the sake of his friend. If James Potter was anything, he was loyal to his friends and did whatever he needed to to help them when they needed it, no matter the risk. The year Sirius, Peter, and himself had decided to do this for Remus was one that changed his life (literally). The magic they had learned for these transformations was advanced enough that there were only a small handful of people who attempted to do it and as Gemma had mentioned, they could go very wrong if not handled properly. As with most things in life, James had been lucky in that he had not messed up with his transformations. That, however, made him cocky and reckless, something he had been working on fixing since seventh year.

Oh, wow. I’m sorry to hear that. If you don’t mind me asking, were they taken or did they just up an leave?” James was trying to be sensitive about this. Usually people who had family taken didn’t want to talk much about it. It was well known that if Voldemort took someone, it was for a reason and they most likely wouldn’t be seen alive again. James in all his luck had not known anyone that disappeared, though his parents had many friends that were taken. While his family was of pure blood, they were sympathizers and thusly labeled blood traitors. There was always a worry in his mind that his parents would be next, not that they couldn’t handle themselves.

My summer has been frightfully dull. Nothing to do really,” he said, sliding down the tree some to lay lower to the ground. At least the dirt wasn’t boiling. It was almost cool if he were to dig down far enough. “You know, if you need help in your shop, I could help,” he offered, “I don’t know anything about baking but you wouldn’t have to pay me.” Some part of James’ mind recognized that this could be a bad idea, putting his around sharp objects and hot ovens. But then again, he was built for customer service and he was sure he could drum business if he figured out how to advertise.

James voted in agreement to move the group somewhere away from the surface of the sun. Somewhere cooler where they could get something cold to eat.

X Clarissa smiled a little sadly. "They left by choice" she told him. "My mother is a muggle born, and my father wasn't about to allow her to be captured and slaughtered like an animal that was unfit to live" she said. The worst part was that they hadn't even told her they were leaving. When she had heard about the Muggle-born registration she had gone to see her parents at their bakery. It had been so dusty when she had opened the door she had almost choked, they hadn't been there for months. All she got was a note on the counter that they loved her- everything was hers. They weren't coming back and if anyone asked- well they had simply died.

"I do have to face the facts though James, I haven't heard from them at all in months, I've come to terms with the idea that they're most likely dead" she said, twisting the end of her ponytail around her finger in agitation. This wasn't really what she had wanted to talk about when she had come here. She pulled her knees to her chest, wrapping her arms around them as she listened to him speak and smiled. "I'll consider your offer" she told him "It would be nice to have someone else around the shop for a change" she said "Even if we don't get enough business to stay open. I told my parents they should have opened it in Hogsmeade" she said "They'd probably have better business, children still have to go to school after all" she added, resting her chin atop her knees.

She really didn't know what she was actually going to do. It would be much more sensible to move the bakery to Hogsmeade, more business, and only a small off season before kids went back to school. On the other side, when Diagon Alley wasn't a place people didn't go in their terror, it had always been a steady source of income, busy in the summers when kids weren't at school, and still steady year round for those who worked for the ministry of magic. She hadn't been raised with a mind for business, and she wasn't really sure which direction she was to go in.

"How are your parents?" she asked James softly, trying to shake herself out of her reverie. She reminded herself she was supposed to be having fun here, not depressing herself surrounded by people she cared for.

She grew very still for a moment when she thought she heard a couple of screams in the distance, but they were so faint, she could have just been hearing things. She let her legs go, eyes scanning the distance warily. She hadn't heard things that weren't true before. No one else seemed to be screaming in terror- so maybe there was a first time for everything? Her stomach churned unpleasantly as it all but climbed up into her throat. That bad feeling she had was getting worse. Something wasn't right about this place.

"I vote going somewhere cool" she said, turning to look at Remus. She wasn't trying to ignore James, but she felt almost panicked in her need to get away from this place. It could have been the sweltering heat, or the overly large amount of people that seemed to have flocked to the park, but something in her was telling her to run away as fast as she could and never look back.

Sirius grinned. "Fantastic" he said "So it's agreed then?" he asked, running his fingers through his hair to adjust what Gemma had just tousled out of place. He liked his hair to look a certain way, and his one consolation for getting a haircut that was considered appropriate for his new job was that he could actually keep it that certain way all the time. He liked the addition it made to his ruggedly good looks.

"I never thought I would see the day either, but here we are" he told her with a smile, realizing he had almost missed responding to that. He felt distracted. "I guess it was just time, I mean- can't stay shaggy forever" he told her with a shrug.

Since when did Peter have plans and things to take care of that would make him busy? As far as Sirius knew- the only friends the nervous young man had were all right here. So what was he doing? He probably shouldn't even waste any thought on the matter. He had never really cared about Peter anyway, he had always just kind of been there.

He watched Clarissa stiffen and turn her head slightly like she was looking for something or listening for something before he turned back to Remus. "Well then Moony, it looks as though you've been out numbered" he said with a large grin, tucking his uncertainties into the back of his thoughts. "As much as all of us would love to sit here and melt- we've decided not to"

Remus sighed "I've gathered as much" he told him "I suppose we can go to Diagon Alley- a lot of the shops have closed though, I don't know how many of them are open" he said, standing to his feet with a sigh. He had so wanted to be able to spend some time outside picnicking with his friends, swimming in the lake. A nice little break that didn't involve magic or home, that could feel like a mini vacation. He supposed he would have to take what he could get.

"Fortiscues then?" the young werewolf asked the group as he shoved his hands into his pockets, slouching a bit as he waited for everyone to decide where they wanted to go.

"We have to grow up sometime, hm, Black?" she teased, nudging his arm once more. Gemma grinned, relieved it was decided to move the party elsewhere. She could feel her skin starting to boil from the heat. Even in the shade her skin was hot and starting to turn red- never a good sign. Ice cream was the perfect cure form the summertime heat and the group could find more things to do once they were finished there. While, as Remus had said, most of the shops were closed, there were still plenty enough open and enough to do and keep the group busy.

She had neglected to notice the nervous notes in Clarissa’s voice and continued to rise from the ground, brushing the dirt and leaves from her shorts and skin, grabbing her bag soon after and slinging it over her shoulder. It was a matter of waiting on everyone else and the thought crossed her mind to fix up Clarissa’s knees before they set off. She had opened her mouth to offer again when the group began to move back towards the dirt path towards the mass of trees ahead. The thought vanished from her mind when this time Gemma heard something. It was a loud rumble and then a noise that sounded something like an explosion. That’s when she noticed people were moving in their direction as well. Not walking, running. She hadn’t been able to see their faces or hear their cries until they were close enough. Gemma stopped in her path, eyes darting from person to person. Some were screaming, some were trying. Every face was twisted into shear panic and terror. Her own eyes widened until she caught sight of a black mass moving across the sky.

The hair on the back her neck stood on end and there was a loud snap as black hooded figures appeared in puff of thick black smoke around the park field. There was yelling form behind their silvers masks and they all started sweeping across the lawn, wands raised and spells flying at people who got too near. Gemma had seen these figures before in the Daily Prophet. These were the Death Eaters. Dangerous and fearsome as they had appeared in the paper. Fear washed over Gemma and she was frozen to the spot on the trail. The group wasn’t hidden, not by any means. If the five Death Eaters running about turned around, they would be spotted instantly and who knew what would happen then. These people had no way of knowing if they were magical or not but they didn’t seem to care. A pillar of smoke was starting to rise beyond the lake.

Broken from her paralysis Gemma became aware of Remus pulling at her arm, urging her to start running. It took a moment but she turned her head and saw everyone else taking off and took the hint to do the same. Her body was in auto-pilot up until the dirt next her starting flying as spells flew past them left and right. Losing focus, Gemma tripped and sent sprawling across the path, rolling a couple of feet before coming to a stop. While she attempted to recover her bearings, the spells continued her way and she struggled to pull her wand from the band of her shorts. When she did manage to get a grasp of it, she threw a couple of spells back. Both missed and only drew more attention to the group.

OOC; Not the best, kinda sounds rushed. Sorry ><
