Lorelai awoke early in the morning with the sun shining through her window signifying a bright clear day too nice to pass up by staying in bed sleeping. Not one to wear dresses which was the proper attire for a woman at her age of twenty, Lorelai felt much more comfortable wearing shirts and pants like the men. She quickly dressed in a red long-sleeved shirt, black vest, comfortable brown pants, and tan hiking boots. To complete her outfit, she put on a soft woolen hat to keep her red braided hair out of the way before heading to breakfast. As usual her five older brothers had been up since the crack of dawn, two of which had left for work already while the three younger brothers got ready for the day at their own pace so they could keep Lorelai company. While Lorelai ate her breakfast of ham and eggs with buttered bread, her three brothers exchanged despairing glances at one another once they caught site of Lorelai's choice in clothing which Lorelai pointedly ignored as she'd memorized the conversation that would follow by heart.
Sure enough, it was exactly as expected: her brother Charlie took it upon himself to voice the family's concerns of Lorelai remaining single for so long and how was she going to find a husband if she kept dressing like a man or going on wild romps through the Scottish countryside? It was all well and good Lorelai had such a free-spirited nature, but they were worried most men would find it intimidating. A woman was expected to cook and keep the house tidy while looking after the children and animals. However in Lorelai's case, she saw herself just as able-bodied as any man. She could hunt and fish with the best of them if she'd had a mind to, so she saw no reason why she couldn't be considered their equal. Which of course was bound to step on quite a few toes. This frequent debate always ended the same way: Lorelai stubbornly stuck to her own personal opinion that if she had to change herself just to accommodate someone else's preferences of how she should look or behave, then she was happier and better off unmarried. To mark an end to the discussion, Lorelai quickly washed her dishes and had been about to head out the door with her bag of supplies when Charlie produced a rolled-up list of much-needed items and ingredients that needed gathering. Lorelai normally didn't mind Charlie's lists as it gave her a good excuse to explore the land around her, but this time she eyed it with disdain while walking out the door as she noticed its length. It was twice as long as usual, which could only mean one thing: relatives were coming to visit, and odds were they were bringing a few friends as well. Lorelai suppressed a groan as it appeared her parents were going to try and play a game of matchmaker as it certainly wouldn't be the first time they'd planned such an event.
Half an hour later, Lorelai was racing through the countryside on her horse Abigail with her pack of supplies slung over one shoulder. Her first stop on her list of errands to take care of was to gather medicinal herbs and flowers for her brother Charlie. These were rather easy to collect except for a small handful which could be found growing up in the mountains. After taking her time in a field pressing colorful flowers in one of her little booklets at her own leisure, Lorelai set to work gathering the flowers on her list before tying them up in small bundles and wrapping them in cloth to keep them fresh then carefully tucked the flower bundles into her pack for safekeeping.
She left her bag of supplies behind in one of Abigail's saddle bags along with her weapons before setting off to find the remaining medicinal herbs for her first task which were slightly more rare due to the fact they were harder to get to. With a long coil of rope ending in a grappling hook slung over her shoulder just in case she ended up falling, Lorelai began to climb a particular mossy cliff she was comfortably familiar with and felt pretty confident she could find the last of the herbs in one location without having to travel elsewhere to look for them. She took a break on a ledge and had the joyous privilege of sketching an eagle in flight just below her as it proudly screamed in defiance of gravity. With the quick outline done, Lorelai put the little book she'd sketched in back in the drawstring pouch tied to a belt at her waist to save adding more details for later. Sure enough, Lorelai found the remaining flowers she'd been looking for tucked away in corners of the ledge where they were protected from the wind.
Once she had the necessary cuttings safely tucked away in her little waist pouch, Lorelai was just about to start her climb back down the cliff when she clapped her eyes on the most amazing spectacle she'd ever seen: a flying reptilian creature with wings swooped past in plain view, and apparently anxious to get home to possible young as it seemed to be in a hurry. Overcome with awe and a natural curiosity to better understand something new she'd never seen in person save for in storybooks, Lorelai climbed further up the cliff in the hopes of getting a closer look . So focused was she on trying to reach the top of the cliff and hopefully pinpoint the direction the creature was traveling in, Lorelai hadn't noticed the wind was starting to pick up until a strong gust washed right over her. Taken completely by surprise, Lorelai was torn off the face of the cliff and sent screaming in utter panic down the side as she threw her grappling hook in an attempt to gain some kind of hold. The moss, rock, and vines helped to slow her fall a little bit, but another gale of wind blew her completely away from the cliff face and for a terrifying moment she was flailing helplessly in empty air before she began her descent and picked up speed with every passing second. In complete panic Lorelai nonsensically yelled out, "STOOOOOOOOOOP MEEEEEEEEEEE!" while still clutching the grappling hook in a stubborn death grip as though it was a talisman to save her from certain death. Down below, Abigail shrieked in distress and frantically pranced around the clearing she'd been left in as all she could do was helplessly watch her rider plummet from the cliff.
