Kita looked at him and nodded. She knew what he said was true, but it still bothered her. She nodded when he begged her to not let Saiki's words get to her, which she wouldn't as long as he was there. However, when she heard that Cain was going to the man whom she would never think of as a Prince again, her eyes went wide. "You let Cain go with him?! What if something happens to him?" She cared for Cain almost like a brother, but with Desmond, it was different. Kita had different feelings for the two of them.

Kita shook her head, getting off the subject and returning to reality. She smiled at Desmond. "I'm sorry Desmond... I don't even know why I had that nightmare... I love you..." She placed a deep, passionate kiss on his lips, and then proceeded to snuggle her head into his chest once more. She dried her tears, and pulled the covers over herself, careful to make sure that he was on top, so that it wouldn't look suspicious should either of her parents walk in at that moment. Kita closed her eyes, smiling this time, and fell asleep soon after on Desmond's chest.

Desmond smiled at Kita's concern for Cain. He appreciated that she also knew the value of his second-in-command, and that Cain hadn't been shadowed in Desmond's stead. He tightened his grip on her and spoke calmly, "Cain can handle Saiki. He is my second-in-command, meaning that he is the next best after me. There is no one who can defeat Cain, except for me. No one can take him down, defeat him, tear him down, or affect him in any way more than I can. Saiki got control of him because of me. His punishment was my fault. That is all. Don't worry about him Kita. He can handle this mission. He has another dozen guards going along to make sure everything goes smoothly. He'll be back with us in a week." He kissed her temple for reassurance and quieted down, listening to her also regain her composure to her normal self.

it wasn't too much longer after his explanation of Cain's suitability for the mission that Kita told him that she was sorry, and for that he told her there was no reason for forgiveness, and that all was alright. He returned her passionate kiss, not wanting to break it, but when she did, he gave her a gentle smile and allowed her to nuzzle closer to him, her head on his chest. He stroked her soft hair with a free hand while the other kept her close, watching her fall asleep with a smile upon her face.

The confidant remained in the same position for quite some time, well into the early hours of the morning before he opened his eye and looked up. He could see the sun start to appear on the horizon through her window. By now, Cain would be looking for him to inform him that they would be leaving. Desmond carefully moved Kita to a laying position with her head upon her pillow, instead of his chest. He instantly felt a chill when her skin parted his, and he regretted moving her, but he couldn't risk anything. Desmond leaned over Kita and kissed her forehead gently, almost to the point where he didn't even kiss her at all, but he didn't want to wake her.

After he knew she was still fast asleep, Desmond slipped from the room and found Cain waiting in the hall. Desmond was concerned that he had been found out, but Cain gave him a smile of support, "I've your back, as you have mine." the second-in-command told his superior, and for that, Desmond offered a smile in return and patted his arm.

"Are you off Cain?" Desmond asked, receiving a nod for confirmation, "Keep an eye on him. You know your orders. I had the papers signed by the king, stating you have permission to do as you feel is right for the safety of the family." Cain nodded again and after receiving a good-bye from his superior, they both offered a solute and Desmond watched his friend leave for his mission. Secretly he worried, wondering if Cain will ever recover fully from what happened, but now wasn't the time. After looking over his shoulder, he slipped back into Kita's room, glad to see she hadn't woken. After quietly closing the door, he went to a chair in a corner by her bed and sat down, sighing quietly and placing his forehead in a hand that was propped up on the armrest with his elbow. Until now, he hadn't realized how tired he really was.

Kita didn't even hear Desmond leave. This time she actually slept soundly, and she didn't have any more nightmares, probably because she thought Desmond was with her the whole time. She didn't dream at all, having consciously shut off her brain to avoid any more nightmares. So yes, this was probably the one time that she was in a deep sleep and didn't hear anything. Which was good, because she needed the sleep. Kita looked so peaceful when she slept.

Kita didn't even hear Desmond come back in and sit in a corner in a chair. However, it wasn't long before the sun started to peek through the curtains. It hit the Princess right in the eyes, waking her up a bit earlier than she had wanted to be up, but she still felt well rested. She smiled as she saw Desmond in a corner, and she sat up, rubbing her eyes. "Good morning Desmond... Thank you for staying with me all night..." Kita was still under the impression that he had stayed there all night.

Kita smiled at him and stretched. "I'm sure that Cain is already on his way with that b*****d Saiki?" She had never cursed in front of Desmond before, but Saiki made her so angry that she just couldn't help herself. She didn't really care since it was him and she felt that she could be herself with him, but she knew that in a few moments her maids would enter and start to dress her. That meant that Desmond would probably be kicked out, but she was okay with that. Kita planned on getting dressed up all cute today, and she wanted it to be a surprise for Desmond.

It was some time before Kita had woken up that Desmond had fixed himself in that chair. He didn't keep his defeated posture for long before sitting up and leaning back, one leg outstretched while the other remained bent. His draped an arm along one side of the chair's armrest, but the other bent to support his head. After the man was comfortable, he closed his eye and attempted to get some rest himself.

Kita's gentle stirs woke him. He looked up just in time to see her sit up and stretch, making the corners of his lips twitch with a smile, "You're more than welcome mi'lady." he kept the formalities since the maids would most likely be barging in soon, so should they overhear some term of endearment, then he would certainly be ratted on. Though, much to their knowledge, 'mi'lady' was a term of endearment he had for Kita. It was always one that could be easily substituted for something else, something that sounded remarkably close to that, yet he could easily say it without fear of reprimand when it was said in the presence of others.

Desmond rose to his feet slowly, stretching his back with great care before rising to his full height, "Cain left already. I was informed while you were asleep. They'll be sending messenger hawks periodically to keep us informed on the escort." he answered her question, ignoring her use of such colorful language, though he could easily contribute to that. The knight began to walk to the door, but stopped when his hand was on the handle, "Call for me when you're ready. I've a few things to check on since I stayed here over night." he gave her a gentle nod before slipping out of the room just before her maids had rounded the corner.

Kita smiled, glad to see that Desmond hadn't left her side. Well, at least she thought he hadn't. She hadn't heard him leave the room in the middle of the night, so she figured he had stayed the entire length that she was asleep. Even if he did leave, at least he came back. She was so glad that he had decided to come back. He was always true to his word, and he proved it to her then. Kita frowned, hearing the formalities that he was using, but of course she understood why.

Until they spoke to her father, Kita knew that Desmond wasn't going to risk being found out, and she was okay with that. They would be able to show their affection in public soon enough, so she was okay with waiting for now. She listened to him explain about Cain, and she smiled, breathing a sigh of relief. She was definitely glad that he had taken care of Cain, and that he was going to have contact with him very frequently. "Good. I know how much he means to you Desmond." And she did. He meant a lot to Kita as well, but more so like a brother than a lover. Desmond would always be first in her heart, then her parents, and then Cain.

Kita nodded, watching as he made his way to the door. She was actually a bit excited for the day. It was going to start out with them finishing their sparring match, and then riding horses, and so much more. Basically, all of the things that they hadn't gotten to do before Saiki had come and taken over control. However, she wanted her outfit to be a surprise to him, so she was glad that he was leaving. As soon as he had left, the maids replaced him, one drawing her curtains, a second picking out her outfit, and a third drawing her bath. Kita smiled and got out of bed, stretching again.

Kita climbed into the bath and began to sing as the maid washed her. After she was bathed, dressed, and her hair was done up, as well as her makeup, she took one final look in the mirror. She looked like a little school girl, with her hair in two buns, but tied with navy blue ribbons, and the rest of it let down. She had on a blue plaid skirt, with a white button up collared shirt underneath. A navy blue vest covered the white shirt, and a blue bow tie around her neck completed the look. Kita giggled and nodded at her maids, who smiled, curtsied, and left. "Oh Desmond!" Kita called in a sing song voice.

After Desmond heard the confirmation that the door had shut completely, he turned on a heel and began his way down the hall, rounding the corner just as the maids were. They all exchanged a quick nod to one another, but no words had been shared while they continued onto their own destinations. It took Desmond some ten minutes before he had arrived at the surgeon's, having him check on his back after so much activity from the day before, "May I enter?" Desmond spoke, breaking the silence.

"Aye, I've been waiting." The surgeon responded as he gathered his instruments that he needed in order to do a proper inspection and repair to Desmond's wounds, "How are they?" he asked, inquiring about his lashes.

"They're sore, but alright." Desmond responded as he entered the room and sat on a stool, removing his shirt and giving the surgeon his back. After the surgeon turned around and got to work, they exchanged mild chatter until he had finished. It took the man an hour to go through each stitch that Kita had made, test their strength and check for signs of infection. He knew the truth however, that Kita had done the stitching and was impressed, "You're all done." Desmond nodded and slipped his shirt back on, glad to hear that he was healing rather well. The knight stood onto his feet and turned around, shaking the surgeon's hand before slipping back out and slowly making his way back to Kita's chambers.

Along the way he stopped at those who were posted for reports. All was good; news that Desmond coveted, "Good, keep me informed." he told each one, all nodding in reply before he continued down the halls. By the time he had arrived, he almost expected a maid to emerge from the doors to inform him that he may enter, but he wasn't granted that usual sight. Instead, he leaned against the wall and crossed his arms over his chest, waiting for permission to enter and see Kita once again. However it wasn't long after he had himself leaning against the wall that he heard the familiar happy voice of Kita, telling him to enter. He smiled to himself as the sound of her, removing himself from the wall and entering the chambers after the maids had left.

The sight of Kita kept that same smile on his lips; no matter what he did, he couldn't get rid of it, "You look beautiful." he said softly to the woman before him. "What have you planned for us today?" Desmond inquired as he took a step forward and approached the woman before him, resisting the urge to take her into his arms; an urge which was very difficult for him to hold at bay.

Kita giggled and blushed, then pecked him on the cheek. "Well, I was thinking we could pick up where we left off before Saiki decided to ruin our fun day. However, I think sparring is out of the question, especially with your stitches, and me slashing you the last time." She frowned. She would never forget that, or forgive herself for it, for as long as she lived. Kita still felt the pang of guilt every time she remembered it, and she didn't think it would ever go away.

Kita twirled in her outfit. "You really think so? This is just my messy outfit. For our play dates you know. I think it might be the only 'normal' outfit I own." By normal she meant an outfit that didn't resemble that she was the princess. The rest of her outfits were either dresses or bore the crest of the royal family. Maybe that's why she liked this one so much. She smiled at him, and then suddenly remembered Cain. "Any word from Cain yet?" Kita was concerned for him, especially since he was with that horrible man.

Kita frowned, feeling her tiara, which the maids had put on her after much refusal (to where she had finally given in, just to make them happy and to get the to shut up), getting tangled in her hair. It was already starting to annoy her, and she decided that she wasn't going to wear it. She tore it from her hair, and went into her closet. She sang a different tune than the one for her journal, and out popped a secret compartment. Only she and Desmond knew where the compartment was, and she had taken the tiara out before the maids had come in, just in case she needed it. Kita sighed in relief when it finally came free.

"I doubt I need this for today. Everyone in the entire castle knows who I am. Why do I need to emphasize it?" Kita came back out and then sat in front of her mirror, fixing her hair and retying the bows that adorned the cute buns atop her head. When she was done, she turned to Desmond and smiled. "There, all better! Now then, Cain?" Kita wasn't sure if the confidant had answered her or not, but she figured that if he had, she hadn't heard him because she was singing to put her tiara away.

And this is gonna hurt♫♪♫
Kita seemed as if she were in a fluster as she went about her chambers, speaking about so many different subjects all at once, Desmond could only remain silent until she was finished. He watched as she fussed with the tiara that adorned the top of her head, and though it fit her well, it wasn't a sight he often saw. Normally she was dressed like this, with no inclination that she was the only daughter of the King and Queen Kazumi. Desmond concluded a long time ago that perhaps, Kita wanted to feel 'normal', like everyone else. However, being 'normal' wasn't all that it looked. The life of someone lower than a royal was tough, and it took an equally tough mind and demeanor to fulfill that life. Otherwise, it was very easy for that person to be stepped on. Desmond remembered those times, before he was recruited for the guard and made Kita's confidant. However, now wasn't the time for him to reminisce on the past. No, he needed to focus on the woman and time before him.

"No, I don't think sparring would be a good idea right now; unless if you choose someone else to be your opponent." he suggested, never really leaving anything out of the question; he often tried to find ways around any complications so that Kita was still able to enjoy the activities she wanted to partake in. He, however, would not be sparring with anyone as long as he had these wounds on his back. The surgeon gave him a good report, and said it might only be a few more days for the stitches, however, sparring would need to wait until the wounds were mostly closed. Otherwise, he could potentially open them up again, and they would all be back at square one. When Kita brought up the cut she had inflicted, and when he saw the hurt on her face, he couldn't help but smile, 'She's far too caring...' he thought to himself before unbuttoning the three buttons at the neck of the shirt and pulled it down, revealing a faint line across his chest, "It's already gone. There's nothing to feel bad about." he consoled, knowing it'd take the girl longer to get over the accident, but at least the wound was healed.

Desmond rebuttoned the shirt and fixed it so it sat right, hearing Kita's inquiry about Cain's status. He waited however, for soon after her question, she sang her notes and attempted to pull the tiara from her head. He tried to help, but she seemed to have a handle on it, though it messed up her buns she liked to wear. He waited until she was done, then hearing her inquire again, "No. There's no report. We should hear something by nightfall though, when they stop to make camp. Cain will be fine. I don't worry about him handling himself," though that was all a lie. Desmond worried about Cain every second. He couldn't help it. Cain and Desmond had been together since they were recruited to the guard, and after so long they had forged a bond stronger than most. To Desmond, Cain was his brother, and he would be devastated if anything were to happen. However, the confidant knew that he had to keep his worries to himself, or else Kita or someone else would catch on, and he hated showing any form of weakness.

Kita smiled, glad to see that the scar had almost disappeared. It made her feel better, but then she saw a glimpse of the stitches, and she frowned again. Sure, those she hadn't caused, but she know who did, and it angered her. She shook her head. She couldn't dwell on the past. She needed to focus on the fun day ahead that she had planned for the two of them. However, it was going to take some time for Kita to get used to seeing Desmond shirtless, as every time she saw them, it made her blush.

Kita turned from him, fixing her buns once more, hoping that he hadn't seen her blush at the sight of his skin. When she looked back at him, she was glad and not so glad that he had buttoned up his shirt again, both for obvious reasons. However, she frowned when he mentioned that there was no word from Cain. She had the slightest feeling that Desmond was hiding something from her, but again she shook her head. Desmond would never lie to her, not just because Kita was the Princess, but because he loved her too much to that to her. Right?

Kita giggled, her smile returning to her face. "Well, the only person I'll spar with is Cain, because he's almost as good as you. Notice I said almost! But he's not here, so I figured we would move on to the next activity that I had originally planned." She twirled and took Desmond's hand, pecking him on the cheek again. "We're going to go horseback riding! You know how much I love horses, and I never got to do it before Saiki came, so I figured we could start there! Come on!" With that, Kita held onto his hand and began to drag him towards the doors to the hallway.

Her disappointment was shared with the confidant. He too wished there had been word by now, however it hadn't been long since they left so it would be bad news if they were to receive a hawk before nightfall. Desmond had to shake that thought away and pushed those worries deep down, focusing on the times at hand. It was good that he had a woman like Kita by his side; one who so easily bounced back from a negative feeling and could always manage to put a smile on his face. Before Kita had entered his life, Desmond never smiled. As the years went on, she began to open up his shell and make him live life again. For that, he owed her his life.

Desmond did indeed catch her face redden as his flesh was exposed. He shook it off however and merely quickened his buttoning. There was a time and place for everything, and now was not the time nor place; no matter how he felt about it, "Horseback riding mi'lady?" He asked as he heard her speak of her love for horses. She had always had an affinity for the majestic beasts and a nature aura when she was around them, "As you wish," Desmond smiled at her peck on his cheek before wrapping his fingers around her fingers and allowing her to guide him from her chambers, to the stables.

It didn't take the pair long before they had arrived. He was curious as to who she was going to choose to ride, but Desmond knew he was going to take his own. It had been a while since he rode Shadow; in fact, it had been well before Saiki's arrival. When they entered the stables, the attendant quickly bowed at the sight of the princess, "Your majesty!" He exclaimed.

"Please ready whomever she chooses, and Shadow as well. The princess wishes to enjoy the day." The stable boy nodded and waited for word from Kita as to who she wished to ride.

Kita was so excited to go horse riding with Desmond. She always enjoyed spending alone time with him, and this was the perfect opportunity for them to have some fun together, and some time to really talk about how they were going to tell her father that the two of them were in love. It had gone to the back of her mind of course, but it was always there on her mind, and would soon have to become her first priority. She didn't want to discuss it with others around, so Kita knew that now would be the perfect time.

Kita led him down to the stables, and heard him speak to the stable boy. Who did she want to ride today...? "Hmmm, which horse to ride..." She heard Desmond choose Shadow, which was the horse he always picked. When she heard him say that, she smiled at him and nodded. "Then I pick Starlight!" She giggled and the stable boy nodded, disappearing to ready their horses. While that was being done, Kita turned to Desmond, her smiling face turning more serious.

"We need to talk about us on this trip, so we'll stop in the woods for a break before we head back," Kita explained to him in a low voice, hoping that he got the hint. She looked around, knowing that there were servants everywhere, and that they would be listening to her. Her father always had his 'spies', who were to eavesdrop on his daughter and then report back to him at the end of the day if they had heard anything suspicious. So, Kita knew that going on this horse riding adventure would make her discussion with Desmond that much easier.

Desmond watched Kita consider the horses she had to choose from and when she had settled on Starlight, he watched the stable boy run off to prepare the steeds. Her change of expression surprised Desmond, that was, until she spoke low into his hear about needing to talk to him, regarding their confession. The knight nodded, "As you wish mi'lady." he said plainly; anything more would have been suspicious, so he kept to his default.

It didn't take long for the stable boy to reappear with two horses in tow. Shadow was a gorgeous Andalusian, completely black, without a hint of falter in his color. He snorted as he saw Desmond, frustrated the man hadn't came earlier to take him out, however the apple that the knight presented was enough to soothe his heart. Starlight was a Palomino; smaller compared to Shadow, though with her light grey coloring and a barely visible star-shaped marking on her forehead, she was still nonetheless majestic. Desmond gave Kita an apple as well, and Shadow attempted to take it from her hand, but received a tap on his nose, "That isn't for you, you glutton." Shadow snorted as Desmond led him from the stables, waiting for Kita to follow. When the pair were outside, he loosely wrapped Shadow's reins over a post and offered to help Kita to mount Starlight. After she was seated comfortably with the reins in hand, he mounted Shadow with ease and whistled a low whistle, which Shadow responded by pulling on his reins with his teeth till they came loose, then throwing them over his neck for Desmond to catch.

Shadow was Desmond's war horse. They had seen every battle together since Desmond was just ten years old and their bond was close to that of Desmond and Cain. He taught this horse how to fight, disarm enemies, flee, and in some cases, even undo ties so that should Desmond call, the horse would be able to get to him, "Shall we be off mi'lady?" he offered and waited for Kita to take the lead, letting her decide where they were going to go today.

Kita loved her horse Starlight. She had gotten the mare as a gift from her father when she turned ten, and had taken care of the mare personally ever since. She and the mare had a special bond, quite like Shadow and Desmond, and the mare's name came from the faint outline of a star on her forehead. She took the apple that Desmond had given her, and giggled when the black stallion tried to take it from her hands. After Kita had given the mare the apple, she turned to Desmond and led the mare outside, where she would be helped by her confidant onto the mare's back.

After getting settled onto the mare's back, and making sure she herself was comfortable atop Starlight, Kita turned to Desmond, taking hold of the reigns to direct her horse to where she wanted to go. The Princess had been riding for years, now almost twenty years of age. She was an expert horse rider, even going bareback sometimes, when she felt like being a daredevil. But that side of her was a rare sight to see, and only Desmond had seen it, twice. Kita wasn't one to be too adventurous, if that was even a possibility.

Kita smiled and nodded, kicking her mare into a canter, heading down the stable path and into the woods. She wanted to jump and ride forever, but she knew that at some point Starlight would begin to tire out, and she would never do that to her beloved mare. She hadn't thought about bringing food or water with them for a sort of picnic, so she only hoped that either the stable boy or Desmond had thought ahead and had packed that stuff already. "Come on Desmond! Let's see how good your jumping skills have gotten!" Kita giggled as she raced into the woods.

Desmond lessened his grip on the reins and Shadow started forward, following the mare. He kept quiet as they trotted away from the stables, taking in the scenery and enjoying the quiet that the world offered. It wasn't long before they made their way to the edge of the woods, and when they had arrived, Kita took off, bounding into the forest. He chuckled and clicked his tongue, sending Shadow in after her quickly.

Her challenge was greatly accepted and with another few clicks of the tongue, Shadow carried Desmond passed Kita before jumping high into the air, over a fallen tree. He patted Shadow's neck after the horse landed firmly on his hooves and trotted forward quickly, keeping up the speed he had going. Desmond scanned the area and saw a tall oak trunk protruding from the ground, but no tree ascending to the sky. He guided Shadow toward the trunk and gave him a gentle kick, making his stallion move from a trot to a gallop. He approached the trunk quickly and before Desmond knew it, Shadow had leaned back on his rear legs and took them into the sky, soaring over the trunk. Shadow and Desmond landed with a loud thump before Desmond pulled back on the reins, slowing his panting horse and looking back at Kita.

Kita was enjoying the time that she was getting with Desmond so much that she didn't have a care in the world. She let the reigns slack a little bit, but starlight was good. She knew not to run off with the Princess even though she was given the reign. She was a smart horse and the young woman had trained her well. Still, the black as night horse that carried Desmond shot past her, bounding over a fallen oak tree. Kita smiled to herself and leaned down near Starlight's ear.

"Come on girl, let's show him how it's down!" The mare flicked her ears back towards Kita's voice, and the young Princess gave her the signal to go for it. The mare galloped forward, her focus intended for the jump. She was going to make it and impress Desmond. But suddenly, something felt off, and although the girl felt it, she decided to wave it off. She didn't see any threats or anything, so she continued to the trunk. Big mistake. Kita knew something was wrong the moment the horse reared up to jump.

However, something spooked Starlight, and she bucked, sending Kita flying off of the horses back. She screamed, flailing her arms as she flew through the air. She tried to catch her landing by outstretching her hands, and landed on one wrong, breaking her fall. She rolled a few feet, hitting her head several places, and finally came to a stop. She was still conscious, but it was hard to breathe, and her entire body hurt all over. She opened her eyes, realizing that she had them closed the whole time. "D-Desmond..." Kita choked out, coughing as it was still hard for her to breathe.
