1. Read the Help Section, watch the little vid to ensure you know how the system works.

2. Realize that you must pay the bid if you win. You don't just get the item for being the last clicker. You have to pay for it. So there is no point in bidding once the price is near the MP price.

3. Do not bid before the original timers up. Anytime before then you're throwing away your 100 gold and raising the eventual purchase price. If it has 20mins left, go have a snack and come back in 19. Then watch and wait.

4. Don't bother bidding if the bids rotating between 29 and 30. You're inflating the price and wasting tickets again. If its not dipping lower, don't bid. Wait until 3-15 seconds are left (depending on your latency) to cut down on the bidding back and forth. If that means staring at the screen as other people bid themselves out, then do so. Turn on the TV and keep an eye on it.

5. Late night, early morning on the weekdays is your best bet. The fewer people on, the better. (and random outages tend to happen at night! )-shifty eyes-

gaia_gaiagold New 5.5 You can check the ACTUAL end time by looking in the source code of the page. Click the spoiler to see how.

Right click the page, select "view page source".
You're looking for the code RIGHT after the displayed end time.
To find it easily, search the page for "latest". It will bring you to a block that looks like this:

Quote:

<span>This auction will end latest on <abbr title="Tue, 28 Aug 2012" data-date="Tue, 28 Aug 2012 17:00:00 +0000"><strong>Tue, 28 Aug 2012</strong></abbr>&!-- at <strong>17:00 PDT</strong>--&<span>

The part in bold is the bit you should pay attention to. It's in military time, and is the time an auction will REALLY end.

6. Make sure you hit the <3 button and bump this. The more people who knows how it really works, the less the price gets inflated before the timer runs out.

gaia_gaiagold New 7. Realize that this is gambling and the odds are against you. The system is set up as a gold sinc. And it's an effective one. Much more is spent on bid tickets then the items are actually worth. Just like when you sit down at the Poker Table, You can cut down on wasted money, and improve your odds by playing smart, but the odds will still always favor the casino.

6: Don't even bother. You have like a .012% chance of winning. You'd have better luck saving for the actual item itself

I don't know.... I had this situation where the timer turned zero and so far as I know, I was the top bidder. Obviously the BID button turned unclickable. I swear it was my name there but it says, Sorry you didn't win w/c is utter bull. And my name changed to someone else's. How the heck is that still possible for other people to sneak in a bid even when the counter turned zero and the BID button can't be clicked anymore!!??

its latency. it takes a sec to update the name. You have to remember, alot of people are bidding, and while your computer sees your name instantly, the updates from the server take a fraction of a second longer.

What!? Then how are you going to beat that!!?? -_- Somehow that small thing takes the fun away. That's kinda unfair.... And you can't do anything about it, too. *sigh*

well neither can anyone else. So its basically luck being the last one to ping a bid to the server. (although I kinda wonder if latency helps or hurts. Depends on how they have the thing set up)

they should fix this up, in my opinion. Meh, so I guess this is End of Discussion then. ^^ Thanks for humoring me.
o.e all hope is lost because now everyone just wants to inflate the price by rebidding for no apparent reason instead of playing the waiting game the second the counter goes from
30 - 25 people just spam bid and it goes back to 30 -_________- they need to destroy that timer reset or else no one is going to win

Hi5 For bid wars at 3:35Am heart

Don't know if anyone here has heard about penny auctions before?

Sure it's Gaia gold... but still, it is what it is - no matter what, bidders are the losers.
Unless your the one who wins the right to pay for it... then you at least get the item, but don't be fooled by the low price... it's price has been paid x10 just not by one person alone...

Heck, there's a reason why these auctions are required to have 'gambling licenses' in many countries....

Just sayin'

Well I did some research on it a while back... there are even better ways, but by doing it so it's still like a game and it keeps many entertained, even if they don't win they still got the thrill of bidding... The good thing is that no real money is spent on it here XD

Well frankly I think they've already over done the gold sincs. The market is seriously deflating. Sucks unless you have a bunch of gold and no items.
