Schadenfreude - Like it? Want it?

Schadenfreude, or getting amusement from other people's pain. I think we all have it a bit. No one is a saint. And perhaps some people deserve it. Like that bully who always steals your lunchboxes and then ends up having his bike stolen.

When someone gets scammed because they're being stupid, when someone underprices their expensive item on the MP, when the OP makes a stupid post and someone effectively flames him/her for it, does a smile creep up your face? Do you secretly laugh inside when you know you shouldn't? Or are you more brash and feel the need to type HAHA LOSER in your post?

When is it worth laughing? Where does it stop being funny?


For me, I smile when a jerkface makes a cruel post about the admins and devs not doing their job properly, and then a whole page of people defending them. In other words, you could say that I'm happy when someone whom I think deserves it gets his a** handed to him. But when people start flaming someone simply because they accidentally posted in the wrong forum, it's just lame.

I always laugh when I hear news stories about people dying. Not even dying in a funny way, just stories about someone who murdered his entire family or something. I'm even smiling as I type this. I have no idea why. It freaks me out.

I do kind of have to suppress the laughter in front of my family when we're discussing this stuff or they get weirded out.

I actually don't like seeing that other people are hating or suffering on Gaia...I can't really understand getting pleasure off of it. o_O;; Unless they're a complete a*****e and deserved it in the first place.

Then again, people have told me that I treat most people like they're little children that should be spoken to kindly. xD

...and then again, I enjoy researching about murders or famous serial killers that turned vaginas into lamps, so who really knows. ^^;;

I think it's hillarious when users post a huge-a** thread about how x item is inappropriate and rant on and on about how it's going to 'Taint the children on the site~' and they get their a** handed to them by someone who actually reads the ToS and understands there's an age limit. I especially can't help myself when they go 'Well I'm a parent and blah blah blah' and then some person points out it really doesn't help their argument in any way. -w-;
I also love it how there's so many 'OMG GAIA IS SO SEXIST' threads in the SF right now. It's just funny reading the arguments. >3

I try not to take pleasure in other people's pain. It doesn't always work, but I do try not to. Then some jerk posts something incredibly stupid, and gets pissed because someone else calmly proves he's an idiot, and I laugh. whee

I try not to laugh. I really do. But I just enjoy laughing at other people's problems. Here and in RL. If I can control myself I'll usually smile- I'm smiling as I'm typing this- and that's about it.

Although the SF makes me laugh a lot at their ranting. It's so amusing to see <3

It's amazing to see them stumble over their arguments so quickly...and to see people laughing at the noob's FAIL.

I will admit, I do kind of like seeing people get chewed out for being stupid in forums. If that makes me a bad person, so be it~
