Little Red Riding Hood.

I love how it can be morphed into a scary a** story.

Mega Explorer

The little match girl even though it's horribly sad and twisted.

Versatile Duelist

I like most of them but I think my favorite would have to be the version of Repunzel in the manga Koori no Mamono no Monogatori 4laugh

I really like that one too. It's crazy how some of the older tales like from the Grimm brothers are so macabre and actually kinda horrifying.

With the cutting off of foot parts and everything? Wow.

I like quite a few fairy tales, so it is very hard for me to choose a favorite, but I must say, the one with the boy that set out to learn what fear was is quite entertaining.

Yeah, I love the Grimm bros for writing them down!! I actually own (a tattered) one of their books in German.

Dangerous Genius

My favorite one is Death's Messengers which is by the Grimm brothers.

In ancient times a giant was once traveling on a great highway,
when suddenly an unknown man sprang up before him, and said,
halt, not one step farther. What. Cried the giant, a creature
whom I can crush between my fingers, wants to block my way. Who
are you that you dare to speak so boldly. I am death, answered
the other. No one resists me, and you also must obey my commands.
But the giant refused, and began to struggle with death. It was
a long, violent battle, in which at last the giant got
the upper hand, and struck death down with his fist, so that he
collapsed by a stone. The giant went his way, and death lay there
conquered, and so weak that he could not get up again. What will
be done now, said he, if I stay lying here in a corner. No one
will die in the world, and it will get so full of people that they
won't have room to stand beside each other. In the meantime a
young man came along the road, who was strong and healthy,
singing a song, and glancing around on every side. When he saw
the half-fainting one, he went compassionately to him, raised him
up, poured a strengthening draught out of his flask for him, and
waited till he regained some strength. Do you know, said the
stranger, whilst he was getting up, who I am, and who it is whom
you have helped on his legs again. No, answered the youth, I do
not know you. I am death, said he, I spare no one, and can make
no exception with you - but that you may see that I am grateful,
I promise you that I will not fall on you unexpectedly, but will
send my messengers to you before I come and take you away. Well,
said the youth, it is something gained that I shall know when
you come, and at any rate be safe from you for so long. Then he
went on his way, and was light-hearted, and enjoyed himself,
and lived
without thought. But youth and health did not last long. Soon
came sicknesses and sorrows, which tormented him by day, and took
away his rest by night. Die, I shall not, said he to himself, for
death will send his messengers before that, but I do wish these
wretched days of sickness were over. As soon as he felt
himself well again he began once more to live merrily. Then one
day someone tapped him on the shoulder. He looked round, and
death stood behind him, and said, follow me, the hour of your
departure from this world has come. What, replied the man, will
you break your word. Did you not promise me that you would send
your messengers to me before coming yourself. I have seen none.
Silence, answered death. Have I not sent one messenger to you
after another. Did not fever come and smite you, and shake you,
and cast you down. Has not dizziness bewildered your head. Has
not gout twitched you in all your limbs. Did not your ears sing.
Did not tooth-ache bite into your cheeks. Was it not dark before
your eyes. And besides all that, has not my own brother sleep
reminded you every night of me. Did you not lie by night as if
you were already dead. The man could make no answer, he yielded
to his fate, and went away with death.
During WWI, there was a nurse stationed in Britain. The nurse was a terrible woman, who would kill her patients slowly with poisoned food and slight overdoses of medication over long periods of time. The nurse, along with a doctor, were one of the few remaining people stationed to a small clinic, and were staying with the few patients who couldn't leave the hospital. The nurse, and this lone doctor, were scared, but kept a brave face on for the few patients that were brought into the emergency room part of the hospital.

One night, while listening for the bomb siren, the nurse heard one of the patients speaking quietly to herself. She was mumbling the words to a nursery rhyme, and the nurse asked what the song was, and the patient told her-

"When I was a child, my mother would sing this to me if I had been bad.

Tonight, tonight,
dancing fairies,
elves of lore,
come to drink and dance,
and more.

When the clock struck three,
the Three o'clock fairies brought out cakes and snacks,
of Human heads, and their bones in sacks,
And they would feast upon their entrails with gusto,
and if you dont behave, you may be the next one on their menu!"

The woman explained that it was morbid, yes, but it still comforted her because he mother did it because she loved her.

Later on in the night, as the nurse was getting ready for bed, she was walking down the hall when she hear a soft growling noise, followed by what sounded like grinding gears and crunching sticks. She was surprised- there were no forest's near the clinic, and the only grinding thing she could think of was the generator, but that was in the basement. She followed the sound, and started thinking of the song. She looked at a nearby clock.

3 A.M.

The hairs on the back of her neck went up. She nervously made her way toward the sound, wondering, silently praying it was nothing. She went toward the basement, and grabbed a candle before heading into the darkness. She looked around the basement, and saw a figure in the corner, a bit of moonlight hitting their back. She went over, and just as she was about to tap its shoulder it turned around, and then...

The next morning, the patients told the doctor that they had heard some screaming from the basement in the early morning hours, and the doctor, believing it to just be delirium, went to go check on the nurse. He found her bed hadn't been slept in, and he got worried. He listened to the patients, and went into the basement, and was greeted with a gruesome sight.

The nurse, poor dear, was hanging from the ceiling, her face split in two exposing the skull, and her torso cut in a neat Y shape, exposing her innards- except they were laying on the ground below her.

The woman from the night before was eating her arm in the back of the basement saying

"When the clock strikes three,
The Three O'Clock fairies brought out cakes and snacks,
of Human heads, and their bones in sacks,
And they would feast upon their entrails with gusto,
And if you dont behave, you may be the next one on their menu!"

And that is my characters story biggrin

I fancy Red Riding Hood and Alice in Wonderland, though I dont consider Alice in wonderland a fairy tale, more along the lines of classic fiction.
