Bit of a dark topic, but why is suicide illegal? Recently a lot of laws have been changed and debated mainly in reference to people's rights, the right to do what one pleases with their own body etc. It's obvious why it's illegal to take another life, but what about your own? There also seems to be a general consensus in some religious groups that suicide is a sin and morally reprehensible. Why?

Because the criminalization of suicide is pretty much the most well-justified (to those who support it) version of the "but it's for your own good!" line of "benevolent" oppression .
