Seriously depends on what you'll be planning on using it for.
Avoid toshiba laptops.
I work in a tech shop and I constantly get toshibas back in for various repairs.
HP, Acer, Asus, Dell all seem to be brands where nothing seems to fail on them.
My mums had a Dell with an i7 processor now for a good couple of years, probably 3-4 years now and it's still running absolutely fine and she paid around £500 (approx $800-$1000) for it.
now I could go on all day about processors but you gotta think of the bigger picture. A backlit keyboard on the laptop has got to be the best feature on any laptop. That and maybe a good set of JBL or DTS speakers inside to top off the sound, as well as a nice clear IPS panel display screen.
these are things to look for in an extravagent laptop.
If you've seen a few laptops you like, check out their specs ratings in google, type in cpu benchmark or gpu benchmark and you'll be able to compare every spec to eachother to get a good comparrison on their performance ratings.
