"One thousand years ago...
Superstition and the sword ruled
It was a time of darkness
It was a world of fear
It was the age of Gargoyles"

Quote:
Things are going to be very slow for a while. I sincerely apologize for the way things are, but Ferret is going through... lots of stress right now. I promise I'll have all my customs and semi-customs done as soon as possible. : ( Please be patient. Things will be very slow over the next couple weeks.

Once midterms and stuff are over, things should be back to normal. C: I promise that we have lots of events and stuff planned for the spring, so things will probably explode around then and make up for the current slowness.

Thanks for the love and patience. ~Ferret

Gargoyles are creatures that have lived on this earth for centuries, predating man and even the third race, Oberon's children. They are capable of intelligence equal to man, though their customs are very different from our own.

Most importantly, Gargoyles turn to stone during the day. Meaning, come sunrise their bodies goes into a stone-like state, and they fall into what is called a "stone sleep". During this time they absorb solar energy, which allows them to heal their wounds during the day. It also gives them energy to glide at night. Gargoyles are capable of gliding on their wings, but not fly. Without wind, or if they are not in a high place, they cannot glide.

This shop is centered around the Dachaidh Clan, which live in Scotland in 912 AD. The clan lives alongside a town of humans. The lord of the land, Lord MacGregor, holds true to a law that was created by his father. The law states that in his domain, no man can kill gargoyles, and no gargoyle can kill a man. The two races live in a peaceful existence, but it is still troubled by the occasional act of prejudice.

Years ago, the clan was threatened with extinction. Most of the members had been killed, or had fled when the humans came. There was only a handful left, and they couldn't breed enough to repopulate the clan. The clan was given a gift, which allows for them to give birth more frequently. However, there is a price to the blessing. It also makes them age quicker than a usual gargoyle.

The leader of the clan, Lainnir, has recently taken over Dromana's place. Though young, he leads with a fair heart, and is friendly towards the humans. In fact, him and Lord MacGregor's daughter, Aileas, grew up together. It is hoped that their friendship will form a strong alliance for the future.

Egg: All eggs look the same, meaning you do not know what your baby will look like until they hatch! Duration: 1-3 weeks, and will start to crack when it's almost time!

User Image

Hatchling: Your gargoyle has hatched into a little bundle of joy. Babies are small when first hatched, and cannot fly or speak. As they get a bit older they are able to move around more and learn things, such as talking, and eventually a bit of gliding. At this stage, most gargoyles tend to look similar as far as hair and clothes go. (Meaning they won't get a lot of edits until they're teens.) Duration: 2 months.

User Image

Teen: No longer a toddler, your gargoyle has grown enough to be a good glider. They are rather energetic at this stage, and start to take an interest in the opposite gender. At this age they are expected to be active members of the clan. Duration: 4 months.

Image coming soon.

Adult: Your gargoyle has reached adulthood! They are expert flyers, incredibly strong, and are able to form their own families. Duration: Forever!

Gargoyle Beasts are available as companions for your Gargoyles. They are dog-like in personality. Meaning they cannot speak, and are not capable of advanced intelligence, though they are generally smarter than most normal dogs. They lack wings, and thus cannot fly. They come in three different "breeds". Small, Medium, and Large. They're depicted from left to right below. Note: Beasts are generally not edited.

Egg: Much like normal gargoyles, they lay eggs, which hatch into puppies! Duration: 1 week.

User Image

Pup: Out hatches an adorable little bundle of... beast! They are very feisty and loud at this stage, and full of curiosity. Duration: 1 month.

User Image

Adult: Your gargoyle beast is no longer chewing everything in sight! They are now capable of making their own litters, and serve as fiercely loyal and cunning companions. Duration: Forever!

[+] Shop Rules [+]
[1] Follow Gaia's ToS and other regulations at all times.
[2] Do not beg! I promise there will be plenty of opportunities to get one.
[3] Do not discourage people from entering various events. It is their right to participate.
[4] Do not steal the art! I've worked too hard on it to see it stolen. The ONLY time you can trace the art is if it's for a references for customs. Otherwise do not touch it.
[5] Check your drama at the door. Anyone seen fighting or being overly rude for any reason (Whether you're 'right' or 'wrong') will be graylisted for a short period of time. I'm serious. Keep the drama to PMs only.
[6] Please read all the information before asking questions. I will work hard to make sure everything is covered and explained clearly.
[7] While it is not my wish to limit someone's creativity, please follow the shop's guidelines when it comes to naming/RPing/etc. Names should be gaelic, or from some other old European language/whatever. Most gargoyles are named after things in nature, but sometimes they name children after names they've heard from their human allies.
[8] You cannot co-own. Sorry. sad
[9] More later.

[+] RPing Rules [+]
[1] Do not godmod. Keep your characters realistic. Gargoyles are very strong, but they are not super hero gods. Don't consider your characters automatically stronger than everyone else. Also, if you're RPing out a fight, do not assume you'll hurt the other character. Let the other player decide whether it happens or not. (EX: Sparrow roared with furry and lounged upon the other warrior, tearing a huge hunk of flesh from her side.- This is wrong. To be more courteous, write something like: Sparrow roared with furry and lounged towards the other warrior, her claws aimed at his side as she slashed through the air. )
[2] Please keep to the setting. I can't stress this enough. Your character can't somehow know kung fu, or something. No, you don't have to RP in old english or gaelic! But just remember that your character doesn't know about technology, and probably wouldn't even be able to read.
[3] Feel free to RP a human character, or any animals. The only thing you cannot rp is a gargoyle or gargoyle beast, unless you own it.
[4] While I do not want to come off as.... discriminatory at all... If you're going to RP a gay/bisexual character, that's fine, but I want people to be aware of the time period they're RPing in. It's medieval Scotland. Bad things happened when people were... like that. You can RP gay characters, and that's fine! You can even adopt eggs to make families, but please be aware that people are not used to homosexuality in this time. It is largely discriminated against. So keep that in mind when you're building your characters and RPing, especially if you're RPing human characters.

Thanks to the magic the clan was blessed with long ago, Gargoyles are able to breed more frequently. A couple must be life-mated in order to breed.

[+] Mating [+]
User Image
When two gargoyles decide to spend their lives together, they become life mates. There is no specific ceremony, but some couples have been influenced by the human custom of exchanging rings or gifts to symbolize the bond. Gargoyles may life mate when they are teens, but it is more common to wait until you're an adult.

Gargoyles mate for life. Thus, the bond cannot be broken, unless one of the gargoyles die, or there is a deep offense committed. It would have to be a sin very great, life-mates do not go their separate ways because of a simple argument. (OOCly, a life-mating cannot be undone unless you assume the character has died, or the owner is blacklisted. So make sure you don't make decisions lightly!) When your couple is ready to mate, click the below link and post the form.

[+] Breeding [+]

Once your gargoyle is an adult, they can breed. Breeding is my gift to you, and thus you will never be charged. However, you do have to RP to get this gift.

Normal breedings result in 1-2 eggs. You can get a 3rd with more RPs. You may keep them, give them to friends, or donate them to be given away by the shop. You can never sell your eggs.

A gargoyle may breed as many times as you want, so long as you RP enough. (You cannot reuse RPs!) However, a female does not become fertile again until her previous litter has become adults.

Same sex couples may life-mate, but they cannot produce children. However, with the high death rate, there are usually eggs to adopt. However, it is not guaranteed that the eggs will look like the parents. Otherwise they go through the same procedures and rules.

**Please note that these stats are not meant to limit your RP, but to guide it. It is your choice how much a vice/virtue/gift/curse defines your character. Your character's vice might very rarely come into play, but remember that no one is perfect. These are meant to keep your characters well rounded and enjoyable for everyone.

[+] Clans [+]

For now there is only one clan, the Dachaidh Clan (Pronounced Daw-he). However, later on there will be opportunities to branch out and have your characters create their own clans.

Each clan has a leader, and a second in command. If the leader dies, the second in command takes his place. Otherwise there is no official role, though some gargoyles have specific jobs or roles that they fall into. It is your choice what your gargoyle does to support the clan.

Q: Can I have one plz??
A: Not just by asking. Wait and get one through events or customs like everyone else. You're welcome to RP a human until you get one though! However, any RPs done with a human character will not be counted towards any breedings, unless your gargoyle is in them too.

Q: May I PM the mule?
A: Absolutely. Feel free to anytime. However, if it's a question that has been plainly answered on the first 3 pages or in the threads linked here, I will ignore it. If you don't understand something you've seen in the thread, post here and someone will help you.
User Image
Q: May I get a cosplay of ____?
A: Sure, so long as they fit the setting as far as clothes/weapons go, or are altered in design to fit the setting. Remember, the only materials available are very primitive cloth, metal, and leather. Along with natural items like shells, leaves, etc.

Q: May I get a cosplay of someone from the show Gargoyles?
A: Absolutely not. No cosplays of anyone from the show or comics, even if they are not a gargoyle.

Q: May I get a gargoyle that resembles an animal, like the British heraldic types?
A: No. These types of gargoyles, who are obviously from another region, will be severely limited and monitored. They will be given away with events only.

Q: Do I have to RP?
A: Again, no you don't. But you can't breed or start your own clans without RPs.

Q: Can I get a gargoyle that has wings like Lexington, from the show?
A: Not right now. Later I will make special lineart for that type of gargoyle.

Q: How come she got one and not me!?
A: If you're not happy with something, than leave. I do not have to accommodate you. Everyone will earn characters fairly. At times they will be given out as gifts, but trust me they will have to do something to earn it.

Q: Will you take a pet trade?
A: It depends on the colorist. See their custom thread for availability.

Have a question? Feel free to ask!

Magic is something that is prominent in the world of Gargoyles. It is a rare thing, but not impossible to wield. However, for men and mortals, they need to have the right 'tools' to be able to use magic.

Various magical items will be given out occasionally. You cannot buy them. They are earned through RP, or given out during events. Below is a list of known magical artifacts, and their powers.

List coming soon!

Disclaimer: Gargoyles belongs to Disney. I'm just borrowing and warping it to make me happy. Also... While I will try to make this shop as historically correct as possible, there is no way I'm going to get a Doctorate in Medieval Scottish Culture just to do so. Consider this more a fantasy than a historical setting. Not everything will be historically correct. So don't complain!
