Thomas told him something about Lady Mine. That was a little bit of a ridiculous name, but he knew just where he got that from, and couldn't believe he was his younger brother. Altair didn't have time to play with him though, he was looking for The Baron and he found the sunny b*****d. He heard “For infinity brother,” from Sebastian. The man who was loyal to the Acaelan king and his little pet. Altair knew him from his visits to the castle. The rest of the conversation was lost to him as he was bumped into by a noisy group. He gave up and blended into them, joining their trek across the banquet to the ballroom. They were having the last dance. His mind was elsewhere, on why would Sebastian have been speaking with Donovan.

He barely noticed much of it before Thomas suddenly cut him off and made him dance with the little girl. Altair tripped him for his rudeness. He didn't know Thomas to discriminate against small people, so he was sure he had another reason, and doing that to his own brother... he desired the fall. Too bad he probably gave him a good chance to grab some boob. The dance ended and everyone could go to bed or wherever they pleased.

Altair was doing just that after Sebastian when he ran into the kid he was supposed to escort.

Monk looked terrified. "I can't kick you even if I promised!" He squeaked, kind of like someone else he knew.

Altair didn't know what he was talking about though, and raised a brow. "What? Promised who?"

"Miss Anna. She was crying... And she asked me to kick you, but I can't kick you! I didn't know what she was gonna ask when she asked if I'd do something for her! She rushed off... But I can't kick you!" He was so distraught. Altair could only find it comical and rather likeable.

He put a hand on his shoulder and gave him a pat. "Good. Don't. We'll see you in the morning, Monk." He glanced at his lady friend and gave him a smirk.

Monk swallowed and nodded his head, before suddenly he remembered something-- "Please don't tell her I told you she was crying!" that he shouldn't have ratted. He nodded his head and gave him a slight wave. It wasn't nothing he had to worry about, Altair wasn't one to divulge somebody's secrets. If he liked them. He decided to climb into a bed.

Prowling: ast Pass, Montarra
With: Vex, Rune, Gadget

Faeline watched as Eliias left before she looked to the others. She could see the hatred in their eyes, sense their distrust, but she did not care. The claws were gone, and she was not to attack unless they swung first. It was then, looking around, she noticed that the one who had blown up the mountain...the arrow was out of her knee. She gave a hiss as she moved over to where she was, throwing the bag to the ground next to her and she took off her leather overcoat, wrapping it into a bundle and kneeling down next to her.

"Fool. You didn't disinfect it, did you?" She asked the girl as she placed her jacket under Vex's head and dug into the bag, grabbing a few things. "We'll get this disinfected and then move you somewhere safe. You shouldn't move your leg at all, if you want to be able to walk again," She said softly as she opened the bindings and looked at it. The work getting the arrow out was messy, but, it seemed like it went straight into the knee cap. She took out a salve that Iago had made up and taking a cloth, placed it onto the cloth and put it onto the wound, being as gentle as possible as she cleaned the wound. Once the salve was evenly placed, she started taking out the bottles and began looking at them, one by one until she found what she was looking for.

"This is going to sting, but once it's on, we'll have you in proper bandages and have you moved somewhere comfortable, and I'll make something for the pain. Now, hold still,"

She had made quick work of it, and she wrapped a fresh bandage around the wound, before looking over to Rune. "You have all the time in the world to sulk, but we need to move her,"

"You were actually close at the mention of a raccoon. It is in the same family classification -- Procyonidae -- as a raccoon. But this is a kinkajou... Her name is Harley." Reid scooped Dinah into his arms and reached over to Sido's shoulder and gave Harley a quick scratch under her chin. The kinkajou let out a satisfied coo and nuzzled her forehead into Sido's cheek. "Honestly, I'm surprised you didn't scream...

"Harley isn't exactly popular with the ladies in the castle."
There were a few instances over the last year where Reid had almost had to give Harley away, simply because the snobby ladies were complaining about his "filthy, overgrown rat"... Reid gave an exasperated sigh at the thought. "She was a gift, when I was named the Master of Coin... Peter gave her to me."

He had Peter had not been friends, but they were friendly to one another... Harley was the last tangible piece of the King that he had left. He loved Harley well enough before the King's passing, but afterward, it added to what made her so special to him.

It wasn't until they had rounded the harbor outside of East Pass and found themselves just a few more hours south of Brissol that Eliias and Iago stopped. They still had work to do before returning to the capitol, and Eliias would see it done. "Wait here." Eliias told Iago, dropping from his horse and collecting his bow. A few steps off the road and into the forest, and it wasn't all that long before a small buck wandered into the right place at the wrong time.

Eliias notched his arrow, pulled, exhaled... And loosed. The caught the buck in the neck, just under the bone of its jaw. With a moan, the beast fell over, and Eliias quickly strode over to its side to put it through more misery. He pushed the arrow in further until it punched through the other side... The deer thrashed its legs, but with Eliias' knee on its shoulders, it was unable to find any footing.

He took no special care to pull the arrow straight through, and more than once he would pull it back the other way and wiggle it, causing more pain. It wasn't necessary... Not to anyone but Eliias. It was one thing when his plans were ruined... It was another thing entirely when they were ruined by stupid misunderstandings and shortsighted assumptions... What he hated most was that Gadget, Vex, Rune, and the rest of their pathetic little family could not be killed, because they were of more use to him alive.

... That was what the dear was being punished for. And though it was painful, it was clean. The only indication of the torture the animal had been forced to endure were the primitive screams of protest that Eliias was sure Iago could easily hear from the road, however, it was soon replaced by the gargling of blood as it began to fill the throat.

Once the creature was nothing more than a limp dead thing, Eliias mustered his strength and slung it over his shoulder, then carried it back to the road, wrapped it in a blanket, and tied it to the back of his horse, then climbed back onto his saddle without so much as a word to Iago.

Now that the hunting trip seemed viable, they pressed on until they finally rode into the city. Upon reaching the castle, Eliias grabbed the blanketed deer and carried it into the castle. The purpose of the trip had not been to hunt, but he had hunted, and was successful, and he could use a little praise for the game he had brought home. As he walked to the kitchens, he received compliment after compliment on his hunting skill, and he returned each compliment with ether a smirk or a sarcastic reply.

He kicked open the door to the kitchens and threw the deer onto the counter. "We're having venison tonight." The deer wasn't all that big. But it would be enough to feed the castle for at least tonight. Eliias turned and walked back into the halls. "Where is the queen?" He asked nobody in particular.

"Scream? Heavens, no. How could I with this adorable creature?" She asked, giggling slightly. Sido looked to him. "Dinah was a gift from Rose when she returned from her last scholarly travels." She said softly, looking up at Reid. "Well, I'm glad you didn't give her away. She's a sweet thing, and those ladies are just silly." She said as she pet Harley, watching the Kinkajou nuzzle her hand.

"Why are you so doubtful about a girl who would prefer a man like you over someone...say, someone like Iago Cassio, could only exist on that other world you showed me?" She asked him quietly as Dinah clawed her way up to Reid's shoulder and nuzzled his neck, the little ball of fur making herself at home in the crook of his neck, rubbing her head against his jawline, purring.

Sido immediately felt ashamed of the question, her cheeks tinting a deep pink. "Forgive me, Master Weeks. That was an impertinent question." She said softly, looking down at her hands which rested in her lap. Her fingers were laced tightly together, as if she feared letting them go for a moment. She felt like she had crossed a line of some sort and spoiled what fun they had been having.

Speaking to: Lord Dickhead Durbish
-----------------

When Eliias asked where the Queen was, many servants pointed to the Throne Hall with nervous looks. Lord Durbish of Pavlarai had come thundering into Brissol, demanding to see the Queen. That was three hours ago, and the two were still in council. Whispers of the Lord's anger with the Queen swept the castle: That she refused the proposed bill that would give Montarra an official religion, and it would have benefited his trade well if she had accepted.

But, Rose was not playing his game.

"The State does not have a say in the religious affairs of its people unless it is costing lives. I'm sorry, Lord Durbish, but that is my final word. Montarra has suffered much, and though it may seem the proposed bill would have given stability to the people, it would take away a major freedom. The people of Montarra have the right to practice what religion they wish, they have the right to freedom of speech, and they have a right to bring their grievances to the state. I will not take away that freedom."

"You speak of our laws, and yet...Your Grace, a law has come up that has been brought against your rule,"

Rosalda sat up straighter in her throne. "Meaning?" She asked, her eyes narrowing.

"Are you aware of the laws of ruling, passed down by King Richard III? In section 6...ah, thank you, Dexter...yes, here it is: In the event that the crown should be passed to a woman, she is required to be married by her next name day. If the date need be adjusted, it can be by unanimous decisions of the House of Lords. If the woman is widowed, she need not be married out of respect of her dead husband. If the woman does not marry, she will be removed from the throne and replaced by the Speaker of the Lords. The House of Lords have met, your majesty, and we have come to the decision. Since the passing of both your brother and Father have been so close together, you need only be betrothed on your name day which is in, seven weeks, I believe? The man must be of noble birth and either from Montarra, or approved by the House of Lords." Lord Durbish closed the heavy book that was handed to him and looked up.

"Upon your Name Day, my Queen, we will decide when the wedding must be had."

He was searching her face, waiting for some reaction, but, Rose's face remained impassive. "Of course. The Law is the law, and I must abide it. Very well, thank you for bringing it to my attention, Lord Durbish. You are dismissed," She said with a nod. She watched as the man bowed with a smirk, and turned on his heel to leave, the book clutched in his hands as if he were holding his first born.

Eliias caught Lord Durbish by the doorway, his hand gripping into the man's collar, wrinkling such a pretty coat. Eliias had heard the conversation before entering the room, and he didn't appreciate any of it. If the man hadn't turned round and walked back toward the queen, Eliias would have dragged him. Eliias was, as all knew, the Grand Secretariat... But in the days of Atticus, he had doubled as the crown's personal guard, and that had not yet changed. "Laws are laws, Lord Durbish, and the queen is bound by them.

"You are perfectly justified in educating Rosalda Lawrence on the laws... But you will do well to remember to address Her Grace,"
Eliias pointed to the crown resting on Rosalda's head. "with more respect. Your smug attitude is no longer welcome in the castle. If ever you set foot in these halls again, leave it at home." Eliias let go of the man's collar and looked him in the eyes.

Lord Durbish's gaze shifted rapidly between Eliias and Rosalda, and to several of the guards in the room. He was embarrassed, and it seemed as if he were hoping someone would save him from his embarrassment. It was also obvious that Lord Durbish was unaware of whether he were excused to leave or not. Eliias would have preferred the man to apologize to the queen before making his exit, but he wasn't counting on it.

Rosalda raised a hand. "Eliias. Please, there is no need for that. I am not angry, I expect this. After all, I did just reject a bill that hindered Lord Durbish's trade plans useless...so I expect him to be a bit...upset," Her eyes locked with the man who looked both shocked and angry. "You may go," She told him as she stood up, and watched as Lord Durbish left, muttering to himself.

Once the doors closed, Rose turned to Eliias, a smile illuminating her face. "It's good to have you back, Eliias," She said quietly as she started down the steps which held the throne on a higher platform than the rest of the room. She felt exhausted and worn down. Everytime she had gone to do something, there was always another obstacle, another reason why she couldn't. Another damned law.

A law that she intended to work around so it worked to her advantage. She would not let them win.

"I trust your hunt went well?" She asked, looking up at him as she crossed the room to him. It hadn't occurred how much she had missed him while he was gone, and it was a bit unnerving to realize it, but, she had missed him terribly.

"And you are never allowed to leave me alone with my aunt for a solid week ever again. I count four instances where I was close to murder," She said, giving him a look that was broken by a smile that meant she was not seriously upset with Eliias for his overstepping of boundaries. She understood why he did it, or why she thought he did it: So she would not be alone the entire week. That someone was there to advise her.

But, she'd much rather have Eliias back in that position, thank you.

He appreciated the welcome, and gave the queen an embrace that said he was happy to be back. "Trust me, Your Grace, that it will be a long while before I decide to hunt again." Eliias grimaced, thinking of the trip he had been forced to take, but he came up with another excuse. "Iago is not exactly a man made for the outdoors. He's successfully put me off the whole experience." Eliias shrugged, and only then realized that his arms were still wrapped around his queen. He immediately released her and took a step back.

"Nevertheless, the hunt was successful. I delivered the game to the kitchens to be prepared for dinner tonight." And needless to say, he was looking forward to it. He had eaten while on the road, but travel had still left him hungry and aching for a meal he could eat in one spot, in the company of others... Perhaps not Freyja. "My apologies for leaving on such short notice. Your aunt and I don't exactly see eye to eye. Her presence here came at a poor time."

He would leave that statement open to interpretation, for there were many reasons. Some he could explain to Rosalda, others that he would keep to himself.

Rose smiled up at him as she stepped back as well. "I think I could have told you that...but, I think everyone needs a week away from my aunt, which is why I sent her to Hawke's Point for a wedding. She'll be gone for awhile." She said with a small smile. "But, I'm sure you want nothing more than to rest. We'll catch you up later," She said softly, not wanting to overwhelm him with everything that had happened the past week. She could handle it.

Rosalda looked at him. "But...you don't look like you were as troubled as you were before...can I ask what was bothering you so?" She asked tentatively. He had become so irritable the week before her coronation that it seemed like nothing could alleviate his mood, and Rose had distanced herself from him to not add to it. She liked Eliias as her advisor, and wished to keep him. But, before he had left, she had seen the Eliias she remembered.

And the ring he had given her still remained on her finger, as she loved the ring. Her Aunt had scoffed at it, but, Eliias had been right in the ring suiting her, and the old language it was written in had fascinated her, so she had been looking through her books to see if anything popped out about it. Nothing had come up yet...but, she was going to use the research as a distraction. She had seven weeks of freedom before she had to condemn herself to hell.

At least she could choose what hell she would condemn herself to.

"No, no. It's fine..." Reid assured her. "Iago Cassio is a bad example, but the question itself is fine." Reid considered it for a moment, picking up Dinah from his shoulder and setting her in his lep. The kitten purred beneath his hand while he formulated his response. Harley jumped off of Sido, plopping onto the bed and crawling toward Reid slowly, investigating the little kitten in his lap.

Luckily, the were both tame, and so there was no issue, but they seemed to keep their distance from each other. Harley seemed just as curious and afraid of Dinah as Dinah was of Harley. Reid handed Dinah back to Sido. "For the sake of argument, let's not use Iago Cassio. The man is a pig. The other day, if he had stared any harder at your... posterior, he probably would have burned a hole in it." An immature joke formed in his mind, but he paid it only a smile and shoved it back down, realizing it was simply his buzz that made him think of such a thing.

"Instead of Iago, let's say a man like..." Reid thought over several men all throughout the Septenary, and came up with what he thought the best example would be. "... Altair Idane... Or Kelevra LeCarde, or even King Rock, setting aside the fact that the latter is married." Reid straightened his posture and looked straight into Sido's eyes. "I do not doubt that some women may fancy me as a passing infatuation. But when it comes to the prospect of marriage and the production of a bloodline, I'm not the ideal choice.

"Men like Altair, Kelevra, and Rock are handsome, and therefor are more likely to produce handsome sons and beautiful daughters, giving humans a better chance to continue to produce. Marriage is a complex human invention based on a very primitive human necessity... To continue. The three examples are handsome, and I am average at best.

"Then there is the idea of security. Another primitive need is a feeling of security. I am not a fighter... Altair, Kelevra, Rock, those three have combat training, those three are better protectors. If anything threatened their families, not only would they have the desire to defend it, but they would also have the ability to.

"If anything were to threaten my family, I had better hope it understands the common tongue, for my ability to protect would only last as long as I could continue to verbally stall them until either someone arrives to help, or until they let their guard down just enough to get in a lucky, fatal hit. I am far smarter than any of my three examples, but this isn't an age of information. We live in a time where physical strength is reflective to what a man is worth as a person and as a mate...

"I lack physical strength, and therefor my worth as a person is based solely on my ability to perform my duties."

Sido listened to him, her eyes never leaving his as he spoke, though her hands petted Dinah, who started to nibble on her mistress's fingers out of boredom. When he finished, Sido was silent a moment, her eyes moving down to Dinah as she thought out what she wanted to say next. He had pointed out something that may render her words useless. A passing infatuation he called it.

Though, after a moment, she spoke. "I don't think you're average," She said softly, not looking up at him. "I think you're beyond average. I think you're absolutely wonderful." She said quietly, looking up at him slowly. "I don't think a man's worth should be judged by his physical strength. To me, a man's worth lies in his heart; how loyal he is, how kind he is, how understanding he is." She said quietly. "And to me, you're worth more than any man I've met. You could show me the strongest and most handsome of men, yet if he doesn't have kindness in his heart or an intelligent thought in his head, I would not want anything to do with him."

"Where as you, you have a very kind heart and are one of- no, not one of- the smartest man I have ever met." She said quietly. "You're so much more than what you think yourself to be...I just wish you could see it," Sido's eyes dropped to Dinah again, fearing what he might say. What he might do.

"I know enough about each of you to know that Slevin's nothing like you." Fae spat the words like they were poison, surprising even her own self in the process. She stood by what she had said, her hip jutting to the side. Pointedly, she curled her daughter's little, sleeping body away from the gaze of her father-in-law. "I'm sure whatever he would have to tell me would be inconsequential to our relationship." Wouldn't it? She didn't appear to have doubted herself, even if she was. She shot her husband a sideways what-have-you-gotten-us-into glance and wished with all her heart that Odette was not there with them.

She and Slevin had been married nearly a year and a half, and they had courted one another for quite a time before that. She had thought she'd known everything there was to know about him. He'd never spoken much of his family beyond the fact that they were rich. And that they no longer spoke to him. She had a funny feeling about Lord Draxus, and quietly wondered how Slevin had turned out so well. Even the best of children turned sour due to their lineage. She impatiently shifted back and forth. "Would you care to explain to a little fat woman just why you're being so ambiguous, Lord Draxus? I've got better reasons for being here, and listening to your insults and threats against the integrity of my marriage aren't on the list."

He looked to his son. "I can see why you chose this one, Slevin. Her tenacity is most alluring. A loyal wife, to so willingly make such an assertion that there is nothing important she has yet to know of you." She had been right about one thing. Slevin was the apple that had fallen far, far from the tree. He was nothing like his father... He was a traitor, a blasphemer, and an omitter of truths, even within the holy confines of a marriage.

"Darling." Draxus offered her a coy smile. "I make ambiguous allegations because it would be rude of me to simply out your husband's little secret about the child he killed." His lips and eyes turned up in a brutal amusement. "Oops." He practically chuckled the word as Slevin took a step forward, but a raise of Draxus' hand signaled the guards in the room to raise their bows and crossbows, causing Slevin to stop in his tracks.

"Guards. Show my son and Master Solaris to a cell... Take this lovely woman to a room, make her comfortable. If she refuses, take her child from her and put it in a cell near Slevin's." The guards moved to grab Slevin, and Slevin fought against them until a guard bashed Slevin in the face with his helmet, knocking him out. "Fae, dinner will be served in two hours. You will join me, or I'll have your husband skinned while my granddaughter watches. Would you like that to be her first memory?"
