Riker Saiforro

✓ Thirty-two ✓ Vampire ✓ Owner of the Estate

Riker grinned when Abel mentioned the treats and kind words. No, it was much more than that. Firebird liked Abel for more than just the treats that he gave her. The horse was very intuitive, and Abel was a kind and caring boy. The two were a good match as far as the vampire was concerned. Of course, all of the horses in the barn loved the boy for his gentle and friendly nature.

He listened carefully as Abel went on to talk about the topic of Riker's bad dreams once more. Yes, he was certainly a smart child. "Well, there is nothing wrong with feeling comforted by your mother. Even if you are thirteen. I always turned to my mother when I needed help, even after I was in college," the vampire chuckled at the thought. His mother and father had always been just a phone call away. Even so, Abel was accurate when he stated that Riker really didn't have anyone to help him feel better. His mouth twisted a bit as he went into thought about it. The air in the stables was silent for a moment and Riker busied himself with un-clipping Ricochet from the grooming corner. He then began leading the horse down the aisle and back to his stall. "If I have a bad dream I usually find something to do," he stated rather simply. "Usually I go for a ride with Ricochet or find a book to read. Sometimes I just go back to my office to find something to work on. There is never a lack of things to do. But once I do wake up there is no going back to sleep," he said as he shut the stall door and locked it. "I may still be rather young but I have a very very very long life ahead of me, so hopefully I will figure something out eventually," as he finished speaking he let out a bit of a nervous chuckle. Riker wasn't exactly enthused with the idea of living for a longer lifespan than humans. Sometimes life felt like torture, even though he did enjoy it most of the time. Even so, it would be a hell of a lonely life and he knew it. If he could find a way to turn human then he would in a heartbeat. His nose scrunched up and he turned his eyes to K2, who was laying on the floor.

Riker thought quietly for a moment before coming up with an idea. "Hey, I just thought of something. Would you like to help me write up the email for Alek's family?" He wanted Abel to know for sure that his promise to write Tol'Stoj and Rhiannon was not an empty one. What better way than by having the boy help him? "We can use the computer in my office." He always enjoyed Abel's company anyone, so her certainly didn't mind having his help.

User ImageEirlys looked up at Zurinh briefly as he spoke before turning her golden eyes back to the window. "In my homeland the villagers enjoyed telling stories of the snow. Every autumn there would be a bountiful harvest to prepare for winter. It was my favorite time of year because everyone was so happy and there was so much food to go around. I ate myself sick so many times on spice cakes and cookies." She let out a light laugh at the memory. "I also enjoyed the spring time because that was when all of the baby animals were born. I swear that there is absolutely nothing cuter in this world than a baby black bear." Her eyes lit up at the thought. Eirlys absolutely adored black bears.

Eirlys found herself wishing that she could return home. However, there was no home to return to. The land in which she had lived had been destroyed, leaving nothing but soot and ruin, ltimately leaving her homeless. It was an odd feeling and she was still trying to get used to it.

Not looking down, more off to the side toward the window, that she looked up his way wasn’t realized, but he followed up her own words with a brief silence, thinking through what he could talk about. That it was snowy where she came from was like his home range, but there wasn’t quite an ‘autumn’, not usually. His tail, drifting with his thought, made up his idle shift as he also spoke, thinking through what she had said and trying to relate to it. “
Normally: it was icy where I started off. There usually weren’t any other seasons, even when it did get warmer during some parts of the year. ---People tended to wander, depending on the surroundings and outside influences for support.” Not knowing exactly how to describe how things went on further than that, this was skipped past, Rinh mentioning various animals that were used to the temperature. “It wasn’t that diverse, but there were animals who were used to the cold. Sometimes bears came around, but there weren’t usually animals that could be considered that young.” Thinking over the terrain, he could remember some that were around that range: despite not having seen any clearly, the ones he had an idea about had seemed sort-of cute, when looking back.

His next words weren’t as direct, Rinh more thinking out loud than looking for an answer. ”
Going back there doesn’t seem that likely, but I don’t know if that would be better than here.” Not knowing whether she would take it badly, thinking of herself, it had seemed like avoiding it would have been better, while-- he couldn’t exactly talk about himself and not give an opinion, even while it could be taken in different ways. Ignoring the gradual strain from supporting her, he looked down her way briefly, thinking over whether to say that he couldn’t manage that much longer. This, decided against for now, moved off into his line of sight shifting back to the window.

Ariah ₭yrin
Mother + Human + Thirty-Two + Household Manager

⌲ Ariah aborted an eyeroll at Ensvel calling her a scary woman. She was hardly scary and she wasn't even sure she could be if she tried to be. Intimidating, maybe. At least, it appeared that the other woman in the room wasn't put at ease by anything Ariah did. Thankfully, the woman agreed to take a room - Ariah was half convinced she'd refuse for some internal reason. Ariah really didn't want to send anyone out in the weather, especially this late. Ensvel agreed to escort the woman to the room, explaining a bit of the security in place so not to startle her, well, startle her any more than she already looked. Ariah was beginning to pick up more and more of the woman's nerves and it was paining Ariah a little to see someone in such a state.

Ariah was startled from looking the other woman after giving her space as she moved around the kitchen - the flickering eyes, flushed skin, the stress that had built up in her back - when Ensvel quite plainly asked her out. It was on terms and he amended to 'just as friends' but by then she'd already jerked her head that his way and gone a little red in the face. Her first thought was that she had to say no. A relationship in that manner was off the table for her, that this was something she had discussed with Ensvel before, but with the amendment and just the slightest smile on his part, Ariah's thoughts rearranged to understand that Ensvel was just being nice, wanted to hang out as friends outside the estate. At least, that's what's on the surface. Still, a day off. Some might find that relaxing, but Ariah just got a little anxious at missing a day of work for something that would be essentially for her. Tasting each letter of the words, "perhaps, Ensvel." Then covering up her nerves and shock with something more warm and friendly directed so that Ensvel could see, "we'll see if you manage to do something unexpected first."

Ariah took the second after agreeing to start back up with her task of cleaning. She was almost done. In doing so, Ariah caught sight of the other woman's darkened face and for a second Ariah wonders what caused such a reaction from a moment ago. She had been embarrassed then, but not like now, when she realizes that playing audience to Ensvel asking her to hang out - because it is not a date - was perhaps awkward. Ariah moved so that her body was facing the woman trying to find words to make this better. She was still trying to find them when the woman answers that she had in fact been at the estate in the past before also giving her name.

Ariah would like to say that now she could place the woman - Lisa - in her memory. And she thinks that she might recall her, can place the time she was here, but she also thinks that would be almost four years ago. What was she doing back after so long? Ariah was having trouble remembering why Lisa showed up the first time, how long she stayed, and why she left. Ariah repeated the name given while Ensvel started to escort Lisa out of the kitchen. She was watching the now empty doorway, trying to get her memory to work when Thale walked through the same doorway returning her focus to the present.

A smile broke onto Ariah's face, leaving the complicated interact to be dealt with later. Thale, now changed, stood near the table informing her that he was back and changed with the implications that he was back because he had been asked to. Which he had been, because Ariah offered to make him soup. Which is what she should be working on now. "Yes, I can see that. I'm glad to see you in something dry and warm." Ariah's words filled the room as she stood straight, looking around for the right cabinet.

When she found it, she steps towards it in order to remove a large pot. "I just finished cleaning up, so let me get started on the soup now." Gathering up the ingredients she would need, Ariah kept a smile on her face enjoying having something to achieve. Between the pantry and the fridge, there was quite a lot of options for the soup, so with the fridge open and it's door in her hands, Ariah leaned back to see Thale. "What sort of vegetables do you want in the soup?"

As a few seconds went past, Thale’s attention and line of sight tilted up slightly, his thoughts becoming centered around his focus for a few moments. A sense of self-consciousness, realizing the context behind his words, rose up from his earlier thoughts: causing the bun to somewhat ‘swallow’ his earlier statements and others he had been about to say. Not quite as free-spirited as he had been a moment ago; now more guarded with what he would attempt next, it wasn’t that obvious except in his attempt to be more concise and careful, a next try going ahead. "...Thanks!" Trying not to fight against that brief response, thinking it too obvious, he then shifted his gaze off to the side briefly, he waited where he stood for a few moments, wavering between sitting down or staying in his current stance. While he knew that helping was out of the question, and didn’t feel like he should do much else but pick out a nearby chair, he didn’t quite know what was available, from the fridge or another storage either. Trying to peer ahead and discern what Ariah had picked out, this was followed up by a move toward the pantry, to check it as well.

As he walked, a few things he knew for sure had to be around were counted off. "Celery, carrots, a potato?" From a brief thought back, mostly sure there had been enough of them around yesterday, that Ariah had leaned back his way was noted, but moved past indirectly as he opened the pantry door and looked over it’s contents. With winter here, a lot had been stocked up; that was still accurate as far as he could tell, which still meant he gave a careful look over the drawer containing the ‘dry storage’ things. Picking out a couple medium sized potatoes from a pile there, he gave it an uncertain scrutiny before looking back Ariah’s way and asking something partly obvious but also not."Is this enough for a couple people?" Even if he wasn’t the only person that would be eating, his tone; while his tail also flicked with some inner thought; made it clear that he was debating on more than what he had just asked.

Ariah ₭yrin
Mother + Human + Thirty-Two + Household Manager

⌲ Ariah's hand wrapped around the carton of vegetable stock in the fridge and made to grab an onion and tomatoes from the fresh draw thinking over Ensvel and Lisa. Lisa was obviously having a hard time and she was going to need to talk Ensvel. Worrying about those things now wouldn't help though and quickly her thoughts moved from the pair to Thale who was in the kitchen with her. His response had seemed odd like it strained him to speak to her. He had a tendency to be careful with his words, so perhaps that was simply it? Ariah wasn't completely sold, but she reminded herself that there didn't always need to be something wrong with people in this house. It just felt like it most days.

Thale suggested celery and carrots, so once Ariah had put the stock, tomatoes and onion down on the counter she went back to grab celery and carrots with a nod. "Those are some good choices." It had almost become a habit for Ariah to praise other people making choices. Thale spoke up again once Ariah had made it back to the kitchen island, asking if the two potatoes he had picked out would be enough. Ariah looked up at him, eyes dropping down to his hands only to stall at the uncertainty? on Thale's face. Nodding, "I think that should be enough. Why don't you grab a can of corn and green beans from the pantry there?" She asked debating with herself is something was up with Thale or not. Occupying her hands with getting out cutting boards, a large knife, and seasonings including a clove of garlic.

Laying it onto the counter, she pressed her hands onto the edge of the counter, deciding that it couldn't hurt to ask. At least she didn't think so, thus Ariah looked up from staring through the items on the counter to Thale. "Is everything alright, Thale?" For a second, Ariah thought maybe Thale didn't want soup anymore and was worried about asking for something else now, but she caught those words on her tongue, sealing her lips into a friendly smile, not wanting to put words to Thale's worries unearned.
