I never gave the second part of Sword Art online a chance.. It just got so...annoying? lol Idk I do like the pairing but I don't like Kirito's character. If the character in the second one is less like him, then I'll watch it =/
And do you know why Kirito became the person he appeared in both arcs? It's because his parents died when he was 1, he developed trust issues with his aunt and uncle turned adopted parents, and he still did not want others to experience this kind of pain. He made himself be seen as the villain just to protect other beta players from the trust issues he created. He watched all but one of the guild members he befriended die in an ambush, and their leader kill himself. All because he was afraid that telling them the truth would cost him a friendship and acceptance. Again, having him try to turn a 180 only to deepen his role as a solo player.
As for his relationship with Asuna, how are they not the perfect couple? She had noted that Kirito saved her from becoming her mother. That, and teach her that surrendering herself to what is expected of her. (For example: Asuna's mother warped Sugou Nobuyki by expecting more and more from him. And if Kirito was not in her life, she would be placed into another loveless arrangaed engagement.) And Kirito noted that Asuna became the strength he needed to fight off his inner weaknesses -- All because she said that she will do what it takes to not die. Everything that says that they were meant to be together, and even developed a classic budding to their romantic relationship.
Also, Kirito is a gamer. Offline, he is pretty much a Tony Stark (minus the arrogance, ego, and such). Online, he even said that the "caliber of his worth" was due to this his friends... Not just his need to be an epic gamer once again. So when he does what he does, he does it for those that matter to him (much like Ichigo does in BLEACH).
3nodding (Plus, also, Yuuki is more powerful than him. But she only appears in Mother's Rosario.)
