According to that one episode where Peppermint Butler tries hooking Bubblegum with one of her many suitors that she constantly refuses; I'm pretty sure that episode was hint to her sexuality. As in she not really interested in guys. Guys in general. Bubblegum belongs with Marceline.

As for the topic at hand. Maybe it's for the best. On a unrelated kinda related note. If you would view the rule 34 artwork depicting Flame princess and Finn in a relationship.......sexually. It reminds you why flesh+fire=BBQ. This is the reason why Finn could never be with Flame Princess.
