I have a new campaign I'm undergoing.
This is the title screen to Demon's Crest (obviously), a rare and HIGHLY underrated SNES platformer. The third and last in the Gargoyle's Quest series, it features Firebrand (Better known as the Red Arremer from the Ghouls n' Ghosts series) attempting to recover the elemental crests that were stolen from him by Phalanx. The game has great platforming action along with a pseudo-Metroid exploration system (when you gain crests that give you new abilities, you can go back to old areas and use them to unlock new areas). It's a particularly dark game, not extremely gothic or anything, but the graphics and soundtrack combine to give things a dark feel to it. It also features one of the hardest final (optional in this one) bosses ever, the Dark Demon. Essentially, it's one of the best SNES platformers made and it easily ranks fairly high on my greatest games list.
So the deal with it? Well, Capcom, being the dunces they can be (especially right now), figured the game wouldn't sell very well, so they released it in limited quanities. Not only is it very rare, it is also the only (Can someone check me on this?) game to ever have negative sales for a week (more people returned the game than bought it). It is often overlooked when discussing the great games of old and is generally underappreciated.
So my mission is to get the word on this game out. It's a crime to me that people don't know about this game and its place among the greats. Not that I'm going to go shout it from the rooftops or anything like that. Just, whenever the debate turns towards the greatest SNES games, or the greatest platformers, or any related debate, I'll be sure to bring Demon's Crest up.
Because Firebrand deserves his due.
By the way, cool points go to anyone who can name where the above sprite is from.
One more thing, and I'd hate to drag this too far down, but
this is why we need more Super Robot Wars in the US. I'm not much of an anime guy, but I always enjoy giant robot stuff (from Mazinger Z to GaoGaiGar and things inbetween), so this looks awesome. Also, we need more games that'll let you overkill like in the video (Like the final attack. Though it's probably a scripted attack, you can still do good amounts of damage if you do things right.).
