I am twenty-one years old, and the Vicomte de Chagny. My brother, and Opera Populaire enthusist, is Phillipe, Comte de Chagny.
My career is one in the Navy, but lately I have found myself fascinated with the Opera... or rather... a certain mademosielle in Le Opera.

I began to court my childhood friend, Christine Daae, not long after her debut as the lead singer in Opera Populaire's production of Hannibal. However... I was ill prepared for the revelation that Mademosielle Daae had another admirer... one who would test our love and devotion to it's limits.

The Phantom of the Opera... whom I later learned went by the name of Erik, had taught Christine how to sing. In turn, he had taken her childish love for his own and now, wanted Christine to love him for the rest of their lives.

I could not allow this, for I dearly loved Mademosielle Daae, and yet I also wished for her happiness as well. Phillipe thought me mad, but I was willing to try and uncover the secret of this phantom.

I did, but such a thing cost me dearly. Phillipe was killed, Christine taken and held hostage, and I myself nearly perished within one of Erik's own torture chambers. The lives of myself, of the Persian, and those in the entire Opera Populaire rested on my own shoulders... and thus... I rennounced my love for Christine.

However, I believe, Erik came to realize that Mademosielle Daae truly did love me. He wanted her to be happy.

Erik vanished not long later, and since then, Christine Daae and myself have found the greatest peace and joy with one another, that I had ever imagined possible.
