David Gemmell
August 1, 1948 to July 28, 2006
David Gemmell, aged 58, died July 28, 2006, two weeks after having heart surgery. I feel greatly for his family, as I wish I could have met him.
David Gemmell, author of 31 fantasy novels, is my hero. As I grow older, I hope to write at least as many books as he has, and I wish all of them to be just as good.
When he first wrote Legend in 1984, he had been through surgery once already. He wrote that story as a metaphor for his pain, and using the Nadir of his world as representatives of cancer, and used his first character at the time, Druss the Legend, the Deathwalker, as a representative of his hope.
Since reading Waylander when I was 8, I have loved David Gemmell's writing, and then it followed on to Waylander II: In the Realm of the Wolf. Six years passed, and just recently I came into possession of more of his books. I have now read four of his novels, and am halfway through my fifth and sixth.
Throughout my lifetime, I wish to read every single one of his books, and I am hoping that it will serve as a great tribute to his memory, for his spirit to know that I love his writing so.
