I am the mule of an 05 Exchanger. Some of you may know me, my real name is Alisha/Lish/Lishy. I'm Bas's property. >o> Anyways, this account will be dedicated to attempting to spread the word of hacker/scammer protection.
A real large uprising of hackings began a few months ago, with the introduction of a fairly tricky mechanism: Phishing links. Unlike most older hack attempts ( Not saying these weren't around before, just not as much. ) These links can be disguised, and if you're not very careful, they are easy to fall pray too.
A few friends of mine set up a thread dedicated to helping gaians learn about all sorts of scams and of the hacker's way. I'd like to help more gaians find there way to that thread, and also just to be more aware of what's going on. [Link in signature.]
Malicious hackers are taking away the fun of gaia. And it's up to us, to stop falling into there traps.
---> WHENEVER YOU WISH TO CLICK ON A LINK, FROM SOMEONE YOU DON'T KNOW, SCROLL OVER IT FIRST. Check the bottom of your screen at the address. If it has ANYTHING other than www.gaiaonline.com/forum or blah blah, do not click it. It may even be a tinyurl. Yes, I believe phisers can use TINYURL to disguise there links. I RECCOMEND NOT CLICKING TINYURL'D LINKS UNLESS YOU KNOW THE PERSON WELL.
GAIAONLINE WILL NEVER ASK FOR YOUR PASSWORD.
---> Use a strong password! Use capitals, letters, numbers, and make it random!
---> BE CAREFUL EXCEPTING DONATIONS. Yes, Malicious hackers want to get you BANNED. Some don't care about gold and stuff for themselves, but simply to screw other gaians over. IF SOMETHING SEEMS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT PROBABLY IS. IF YOU RECIEVE A DONATION FROM SOMEONE YOU DO NOT KNOW, AND IT IS OF A MEASURABLE AMOUNT, ( More than just some junk/crap ) PM A MOD. Tell them about it, ask them what you should do, see if they can check the items history for you or something.
BEST THING IS NOT TO ACCEPT DONATIONS FROM PEOPLE YOU DO NOT KNOW. IF YOU ARE RANDOMLY GIFTED SOMETHING OF MEASURABLE AMOUNT CONTACT A MOD TO CHECK ON IT'S SAFETY. Be careful! Accidental bans do happen.
---> Don't answer a lot of PERSONAL QUESTIONS. People will use these to try and figure out your EMAIL PASSWORD, And be able to change your email from under your nose, stealing your account!
---> If you're a very wealthy person, use a MULE to sell off big items! It's just being careful, wealthy people are bigger targets!
Anyways. Please, PLEASE check out this amazing thread, and read up on all the up-to-date scammer/hacker awareness it has available.
I'm tired of my friends being hacked, I'm tired of Gaia's exchange becoming a "Omg I was hacked" Forum.
