What I meant by that was like... its big and some areas are very nice.

But because of the size, there are a lot of people, so its kind of over crowded and dirty in most parts.

But depending on the area.

I live in a really nice area. Very pretty.

Also, when considering accommodation on your travels, you may want to look at the HI-Hostel network. A $35 membership gives you discounted rates on the hostels along with your Greyhound bus tickets (25% discount) and other expenses. If you plan on doing a lot of traveling it will quickly pay for itself in savings. The network itself is quite large and covers many places of interest around Canada.

It all depends on your budget. I would consider flights around Canada expensive as there's much cheaper alternatives at the cost of your time. A flight on a cheaper airline, Westjet, from Montreal-Edmonton costs $573 CAD taxed (August 1, one way) and will get you there in five hours. The same journey on a Greyhound bus would cost you $346 CAD taxed, but you will spend just over two days on the bus. All it really comes down to is cost vs time spent in transit. Canada also has a train network called VIA Rail but it's not known for value friendliness. I would use it only for shorter distance journeys, say Montreal-Toronto, but even still Greyhound bus is cheapest.

If you need or want to do Canada on a shoestring then stick with Greyhound bus for your travel. It takes longer but you'll have the extra hundred dollars here and there which you can spend on other things. I think every capital city has a Greyhound bus station in which you can purchase tickets etc. unless you're wanting to travel into the northern territories. I think the only way to go north (Yukon, NWT, Nunavut) is by flight.

Have a good year.

Well, this is the even bigger, cooler one in August!! http://www.hobbystar.com/fanexpo2008/anime/index.html (do urls send? if not, look up: "Fan Expo" wink This is Anime, Sci-Fi, Comics, etc all combined into one humongous festival!! I mean, personally I like North better because it feels more personal and fun, and like mostly just Anime. But Fan Expo is great if you are into other things as well, because that way you can see it all at one time at one convention. I wish I could go this year... I am in BC for the summer, but may try to convince my parents to let me go back early.

Hi, you're welcome!

Aww, that's too bad about North! It was a really fun atmosphere, cause it's a pretty big convention and you stay in a hotel with other convention goers, so it's like the party never stops! Yep, I'm into anime and manga and so far I've been to Anime North in Toronto and Anime Evolution in Vancouver.

I'll definitely check out the topic again! That's such a good idea to post about it in the forums, because it's fine to get information from guide books, but actual young Canadians can tell you way more about what to see and do in the city! User Image
