SAME. I got that vibe as well, where the Qun = Islam. It's obvious that the Chantry represents Christianity (the Maker = God, Templars = Holy Knights, etc.) and many view the Qun to be the opposite to the Chantry in many ways, as it's common belief that Islam is the opposite of Christianity/Catholicism, when in reality, the Qun and the teachings of the Chantry have many similarities and the Qun, in several aspects, appears to give followers more freedom than the Chantry does: and yet, the Qun is viewed as the oppressive religion. I feel like this applies to Islam and Christianity very well. I don't want to go off about the Islam-Christianity dynamic in this here forum, but I see so many similarities. The obvious one is the similarities in the spelling/pronunciation of Qun and Quran.
And I surely love David Gaider, and I haven't seen any of those ill-received criticisms, but I def don't doubt that they're a thing.
AND I KNOW. Having magic and Darkspawn and dragons and huge weapons that require little to no training to flawlessly wield is perfectly acceptable and only gets humorous discourse but when there's talk of putting ACTUAL, IRL diversity in the games then the s**t Fans™ jump out from the underbrush and throw their hurtful opinions out there. I've noticed that it's mostly male fans who only want POC women to exist in Bioware games so they can ******** the "exotic" characters.

Haha, I feel really unobservant right now, but I never noticed that similarity between Qunari and Qur'an. Wow. As for the Qunari in game, I do think they are an oppressive religion, but I also think the Chantry is just as bad. I just can't get past the fact that Qunari literally sew their mages' mouths shut to appreciate their culture (what little we know if it, anyways) more. I do really like their general distaste for nobles as a class, though. Have you played Trespasser at all? I don't want to spoil anything if not, but there is some stuff mentioned by one of the Qunari that made them really interesting to me despite their whole "rule the world" shtick (which, let's be honest, is exactly what the Chantry wants to do, too). They're just...so mean to their mages. gonk

Some guys just ruin everything they touch. It's horrible. Like, leave it to them to take a good concept and be gross about it. >.> And the really obnoxious thing about all these people who suddenly care about "realism" when the idea of diversity comes up is the fact that they don't bat an eye at media that puts white characters into places that would be predominantly non-white. Like that horror movie The Forrest? Takes place in Japan, but the writers invented some excuse to put in a white woman as the main character, and then they had to make the "love interest" (not exactly what he was, but kinda) white, too. And it's just?? Why??
