I heard the event will be around for a long while, should you want to keep trying.

I guess I got lucky or something, everyone else seems to have had a lot of trouble with it but I succeeded on my first try gonk

LOL I am immortal. Muffin lived on my attempts.

For Carl: What I did was to put all my loot into ammo, then hunt as soon as the game opened until I had a crapload of food (buffalo are good). Don't shoot the elks because it'll piss him off. Um. Then I put ship speed on fast and rations on meager until three of my dudes were dead (it probably would've been safer to just let two die but three was just how it turned out). THEN I put the ship speed and rations back to normal and it was much easier to keep the remaining guys alive because they consumed less food.

After that, fill up your food stores as much as possible before using the shortcuts (less time for bad stuff to happen, the way I see it). Barter for luck whenever you can (Carl's seems to suck) and don't do random events unless you know good stuff will result. Then it's just a matter of trying to keep everyone healthy until the end.
