What do I like? Oh gee, don't get me started...
Well, I love art in all of its forms, music (anything from heavy metal to holiday tunes, from Chinese punk rock to Swedish reggae), psychology, sociology, all four branches of anthropology, cultural theology, zoology, cryptozoology, and basically any other '-ology' you could think of, anything and everything Norse in nature, meeting new people, reading for hours on end, big cities, bright lights, intelligent conversations and debates, tiny villages, good food, conventions and cosplay, photography, traveling, languages and cultures, the simple things in life, nature -- this list really could go on forever.

I suppose I can best be described as a happy-go-lucky intellectual. I'm usually all smiles, I can be a little harsh and way too honest, I like to act tough but everyone knows I'm not, and I can be pretty ridiculous. Also, people I consider ignorant tend to...frustrate me.
I have some of the coolest friends in the world, but I would still love to meet more amazing folk. I want to meet people who can make me really think; puzzlers, scholars, artists, anyone.

My passion when it comes to anthropology is Scandinavian studies. I hope to someday represent Norse religion and culture in a way that is accurate, yet still just as mesmerizing as the current misconceptions of "Vikings" are. People are attracted to the culture because of the way the media portrays it, yet that portrayal is so off base and the truth is far more fascinating.
Of course, I think every culture deserves to be remembered accurately, and appreciated for the way they lived and grew as a society and how the people living there grew as well. They should be remembered for all of those who built the civilization, even the little people. Remembering a culture based upon one major public figure is useless and only shows one side of the d-20 that is that society's story.

Ah well, good luck with that.

I also wish I had been taught more languages as a child, as it is I am only fluent in English. I plan on changing that, but it definetly makes things more difficult.

And yeah... The modernization just seems like it would taint research and wouldn't be an accurate representation of the culture. Or at least the original culture. I'm only a first year though, I have plenty of time to decide where I'd like to study and to analyze all of my different options.

Do you know what you would like to do specifically?

Being 18 I assume that you're in my situation, just fresh into university.

I know I'd like to pursue ethnography, but I honestly don't know where I would like to study specifically. Preferably some place small that is of very little interest to the rest of the world, that hasn't been extensively studied. That way I'll know my research is independent and as bias freed as I could possibly make it.
