Funny thing is, this guy and his sister who both taught art at that school (each in different classes, but they were practically the same ******** annoying entity) was all ART IZ SRS BZNS. scream

He would tell me to stop wasting time drawing cartoons and to do real art. First of all, ******** you. Real art? Really? Some guy out there is throwing dog s**t on a canvas right now and hanging it in a gallery for modern art critics to gawk at and cream over, and anime isn't real art? Right. Don't ******** tell me what "real art" is. Just about everything is a media for art, f*****t. He pissed me off so much. I mean, I've got nothing against doing all sorts of art types, but to dub something as fake art and others real art? What? Anime is fun. It's a fun thing to do, and a lot of people enjoy the style. I would also liked to have reminded him that there are anime artists AND cartoonists making a ******** more money than he ever will right now. redface

He pretty much told me that all cartoons look the same (even though japanese animation looks nothing like American cartoons, despite the fact that it was modeled after Disney's work), and to do something original that was worth something. Then, he goes and jizzes all over this kid and holds up his picture like "OH WOW DOESN'T THIS HAVE SUCH A VAN GOGH FEEL TO IT?" and I decided WHAT THE ********? DIDN'T YOU JUST TELL ME TO DO SOMETHING ORIGINAL!? But, it's ok if he does something that looks exactly like a famous artist did it, amirite? Go ******** yourself, sir. |:

I decided that, from that point on, this guy was completely pompous, and I didn't want to learn s**t from him. So, I did nothing and failed art. lol

I would LOVE to learn watercolor. I'm just... it just doesn't come naturally to me. I think the art teacher I had in highschool ******** me up big time when it comes to that stuff. I'm pretty sure he taught a lot of the things wrong. But, hell, it's high school art. What do you expect? rolleyes

I was thirteen or fourteen, probably. I had only just started drawing. I don't... I don't know why I never even tried before then. :/ I also never, ever posted that stuff anywhere. I didn't even have a scanner then. lol I also used MS Paint since I had no art tools. Harharharhar

I wish I could actually get a damn education in art. It's not what I want to do for a living, but I enjoy doing it. It would be nice to say that I actually know what I'm doing. I need anatomy. Hardcore. :/

I'd consider it art theft, but ..eh. When talking about a manga/anime, it's less of an art theft and more of a copy to me. I mean, that's how I started out drawing. But, I didn't try to present it like I had actually done it myself. I would draw things that other people had drawn, or manga/anime of some sort, then I would practice coloring it. I'd learn from it, and do it again with something else, take little pieces of the style that I liked, and moved on to add my own touch. They say "take from the best and make it your own." So, I'm nowhere near good enough to say that I've taken from the best, haha, but that's not the point.

Don't try to act like you did something big when you've just drawn something that someone else has already drawn. rolleyes

About my Judge my Art thread:
I used a reference picture for Taiga. And why shouldn't I be able to? There are a bunch of artists who do this, and I drew the lines and colored the whole thing in myself. In any way, I did not "copy" from the picture. I simply used it as a reference and drew the pose the picture had Taiga in.
Please do not jump to any conclusions.
