Random, but thinking on your etiquette thing again made me think about Tom's work contract where it isn't etiquette but tells him he should obey US laws (his company is a US company, head office is in Pasadena). Found that amusing. razz

Weather varies here and in CA, but it varies more here. My MA year the weather was much colder but sunny most of the year actually. This year has been much warmer but wetter. When I came in my MA barring the couple months of snow it wasn't really a culture shock whether wise. Last year was probably the worst in contrast to CA, and of course CA is in a massive drought now. So how 'similar' weather is is likely relative, though you probably would need to live somewhere else for at least a few years before you could even start to make any definitive comparisons. I mean I'd say England is nothing like SoCal but much of the year it can be similar to the north in non-drought conditions (think back 5+ years ago, I think CA misses me as it's really fallen into drought since I've moved away). The big difference is how dark it gets in winter here. I never really understood Seasonal Affective Disorder until I moved to England. I mean in CA there is maybe a 2-3 hour difference in how much sunlight you get in a day across the year. In winter that becomes a 6-8 hour difference. The darkest parts of the year where I am it gets dark around 3pm, and sometimes stays light out in summer past 10pm. When Tom was working in Scotland in summer during his undergrad it didn't get dark until after midnight and then sun came back up around 3-4am. However in winter I bet they at the greatest extreme probably have a similar only 4-6 hours of sunlight in the day. So the contrast I think is less in the weather and more in the light, and that is hard.
