Oh I thought you'd be on more often. I guess I'll just finally reply here. What you said about Jun sounds like pure envy. Do you usually feel that way about people better than you? To me, Jun is an example of how we could be better. In reality, living life the way you want to is what you should be doing, but you have to make sure you're actually doing what you want to be doing. A lot of people fall short and end up doing nothing. If you're envious of something it's likely because you've wanted to do or be something similar. I think envy is dumb though; you can still appreciate someone and achieve similar goals. That's one of the things I'd love for Boku to realize.

I think it fits her personality. Her "rage" would drive her to become the best at whatever she might need to do. I'm not a fan of geniuses for the sake of being geniuses, and like Nisio sort of points out at the end of the first book, geniuses are nothing more than people setting out to do what they want. It's somewhat obsessive. She makes a lot of sense to me because most of my ambitions are things that would normally seem to be impossible. I definitely see the appeal in D.G. especially as a main character. I think I remember one of my friends mentioning that Nisio had said in an interview or something that he hadn't originally intended for him to be the main character.

Ah, I don't want to get into specifics in that case unless you want spoilers. From the art I've seen there's been a lot to suggest otherwise. Some of it may be from the Ningen Series—which is a hilarious abbreviation considering it's about Zerozaki and ningen means "human" or "humanity."

I dig through Pixiv every so often for new stuff. Beware the spoilers!

Ooo, that makes things more exciting. Although, I don't think it'll ever be explained. I've been somewhat interested in Ii-chan's name since everyone in the series calls him some nickname based on "I." Just checked and it's apparently written as boku in japanese so now I'm imagining "Boku-chan" and "Bokkun" or other sorts of puns.

Have you watched Oregairu?

Yeah, his contradictions are what give me hope. I love the nonsense and I love that he's known as the nonsense user. It's all perfect for his character and the series altogether. I pointed out the quote because I like him in a similar way Jun would. I also enjoy how he's a d**k and playfully spites Jun by calling her Aikawa.

I have a few spoilers concerning H.F. based on fan art and whatnot so I'm curious about that—not going into detail there just in case you don't know what I mean. Also lots of Jun spoilers that I don't really have context for yet. Art can tell a lot. Has her past been touched on at all in what's been translated? I really love Jun and not just for the obvious reasons.

I've been meaning to but I've been so busy. Even when I'm not busy I'm generally too exhausted and end up procrastinating procrastinations. I'm going to force myself to take a day and read through them soon.

Whoa, that's news to me. I haven't caught up yet since like I said I've been avoiding it. I'll do that tonight in that case.

I can see why. The philosophy in Zaregoto seems to resonate within the others too. I finished Medaka Box first and then got into Zaregoto; it was like seeing some of the ideas he had for Medaka Box in their infancy. Of course he probably wasn't aware that he wanted to explore that at the time. I honestly love the guy.

I don't really like I's view. He seems to improve in the second book but he's generally awful. I hope that's not offensive. I shared a lot of his views when I was younger so I assume I understand how they'd reflect your own. My current views aren't all too different but they don't reflect the parts that make his terrible. Despite that, I love him as a character; he's a lovable piece of s**t. I'm hoping he improves later on and since you've already seen that I assume you know more. I liked how in the second book he's an unreliable narrator and it's kind of explained why people thought of him badly in the first book. Here's a Jun quote that sums up what I feel about him:
"It’s thanks to fellas like you that life’s worth living. I really think so. But pal, you just need to cut down on the slacking a little bit. Human beings can do so much more, so get out there and do it, dammit."

Yeah! I started reading it a few months ago and, gah, it gets really cute. I try to forget about it so that I can go back to it and read a few chapters before sobbing and waiting for the next release. The pain of monthly manga.

Have you heard of Girls of the Wild's? You might like it if you liked Medaka Box.

Oh yep. I bought both books a while back but I knew about the fan translations. I'm only on the third book, but I'm fascinated by it. I love most of Nisio's works so I had to try it. Do you like Monogatari or Medaka Box by any chance?
