I just don't see a system one could create in today's society that would ethically justify the use of animals or the consumption of them or their byproducts, let alone sustainable. As the crops one would use to feed the animal could just as easily go to feeding other people. Also, I don't assert that all beings defined as animals are sentient. And since that is the case I do advocate that people try consuming rope grown oysters and muscles, as they are not likely sentient. I personally never liked them, so I do refuse to eat them, but not for ethical reasons. And also i try to to consume products with palm oil in them. Sometimes it is impossible to avoid, as things fortified with vitamin a likely use palm oil or canola oil. But that is another subject entirely.

I haven't really traveled to a place where there were no vegan options. Like as an emergency thing, I bring cliff bars to places as a back up.

Animals are not ours to use and exploit. Just like other humans are not our to use and exploit. If you want to care for animals and let them do their thing, fine. But they are not tools for you to do with as you please. Also nature doesn't design anything, organisms evolve to fit a niche in the environment. Also the ethical way to handle animal sacrifice is to not do it. Also, as you have mentioned, if there is this fly t hat breaks down animal material, why not allow animals like that consume the animal. You know, the animals that actually have a biological need for eating animals? Humans only have the ability to consume meat, not the biological need to do so. I would also call into judgement what you mean by beyond repair. What if one of the animals is damaged to the point where it no longer preforms the function that you desire it to do for you? Is that the point where you stop caring for it and eat it? See I would say that if that is the case then that is unethical.

I just don't see animal agriculture being sustainable at all. I mean if you are raising animals for food you are using land to grow food to feed that animal that you could be eating instead. It is terribly inefficient. So in a sustainable society, there would be no consumption of animal products, and also some plant products (most notably palm). Also sacrificing of animals is also unnecessary and has yet to be justified as necessary. I agree that telling anti-vegans to just go straight vegan is not going to be effective. Slow change is the only realistic option. The only thing I would say is that the way you phrase it makes it seem like your idea is the end goal, when I don't think that is or should be the end goal. We should always be striving to be better and more efficient.
You also didn't bring up that you were in a point if your life where you couldn't be vegan. If you truly couldn't be vegan due to lack of resources (such as your parents are providing for you and you had no income or something like that), then I can't say you should be vegan, since you couldn't be vegan. When your originally phrased it it sounded like you just missed being able to eat food that you liked. I don't think that is a good reason to do something if the actions supports unnecessary harm or exploitation. I am not really judging you, but trying to point out where there may be inconsistencies in your thinking. Sorry if it came out that way. I enjoy talking about veganism. Just when clarifying misconceptions and points I can understand how it would sound like I am judging you.

I mean I think it is great that you are 90% plant based. But does your desire to experience other cultures cuisine include the Korowai tribe? If not, why not? Just something to think about. I just personally can't eat food that I know has animal products in it, knowing the suffering and exploitation it supports. I would also like to point out that there are some pretty amazing asian cuisine places that are vegan, at least near me there is.
So if veganism falls in line with your values, do you plan on going back to being a vegan? Also, what do you mean by strict vegan?

Almost 2 years. I guess the value is that I am now in line with my other values. I just was presented with a problem of trying to justify eating meat and supporting the unnecessary slaughter of sentient beings for my own pallet pleasure, and was not able to (nor was I able to find any evidence that animal products contain any essential nutrients thatI was not able to derive from non-sentient things. I guess I just feel like my positions are more consistent this way and I am a bit more comfortable in my own skin if that makes any sense.

Yeah, everyone's hustling or partying nowadays.
I think it would be interesting to see how much money my family could save if we grew our own produce.
Better yet, what if we generated our own electricity? eek

Recently I've written a thread about lgbt rights in the ED.
And yeah, the GD isn't that great for making serious posts. rofl
As far as action goes, I don't really have much I can do at the moment. sweatdrop
And you are so right about the fiat currency situation; it's getting way out of hand. emotion_facepalm

hehe, yeah. Laziness is a prominent human trait. :p

I guess I can be alright to talk to. I have an interest in spirituality, mysticism, and religion and stuff. I tend to lean towards the darker side of spirituality, but I hate satanism. >.< I think Anton Levay was just a child throwing a temper tantrum about Christianity. I think the ideas about being free and do as thou wilt are good things to live by, but it could do without the reactionary anti-christian stuff. Heh. Do you feel like chatting over skype or an IM of some sort? Just figure it will be faster and won't clutter up the comment sections on our profiles. razz This is fine too, though. smile What kind of spirituality do you practice?

Major. It has become influential on others too.
But like any ability, it can atrophy without use.
