Comfort I understand.
But the use of religion to provide it?

I had a wolf (not legally) name LoneCry. He was all alone with his father, and I took care of them to keep them from starving.
Then one day they didn't show up. I found them beside a cold spring a little whiles away. The father had his head torn off and taken away,
and LoneCry was ripped apart and disemboweled.

To comfort myself, I used my imagination, bringing them back to life in a story I wrote.
Making them human... and bringing them back together.

Another time, my cat, squeaker had died. He was my life-long companion.
His kidneys were failing and I blame myself for not catching it sooner.
While flushing out his blood at the vet's, the fluids somehow made it into his lungs...
he was drowning.
On the brink of death, we had to put him down.
I never got to say goodbye.

Then a year later a kitten showed up at our door.
It was about a year old, hungry.
It seemed to clearly been with humans before,
since he was very calm around them.
Especially us.
This stray came to us. We named him Storm.

We later found out Storm had a heart condition, and we came to accept the fact that he wouldn't live a long life.
I noticed he had many, if not all, the habits and qualities Squeaker had.
As if Squeaker came back for me.
This time, giving me a chance to say goodbye.
Storm died of a heart attack last year while fighting with another stray...
He lived just as long as the rest of squeakers life would have been if he didn't die.

I had comfort in these thoughts that I knew couldn't be real.
However, I know it's not religious.

Amazing Q

It does bring comfort to some people.
However, I'll be the one to openly admit that I don't understand why.
Because of this, I'm currently taking a class on World Religions.
The first question the teacher asked was "What is religion?"
And there is no right answer. Not even a textbook definition to perfectly describe the word.
Then again, most words are like that, as well.

I am Agnostic Humanist.
Meaning I don't consider the question of whether or not there is a god to be important.
And even if a greater deity was proven to exist, I would not change the way I act.

My bible is ... a manga~
Gundam Wing Episode Zero.
It has so much to offer,
just like the christian bible.
A collection of stories with morals and teachings,
offering a way of life,
and explainations of the unknown.
I will never give it up, even after death.
