My friends are my family.
“I seriously hate you! I am older than you, why can’t you give way? I am trying to catch that puppy to play with it! Move it!” yelled Tom. Tom and Jack glared at each other for a moment without moving. I just sat next to them, waiting what they will do to each other, reading a new book. Just as expected, they slapped and punched each other. Well, I wasn’t surprised. Those two boys were really a pain. You can’t stop them when they fight. Jack, Tom, Shizuka and I were all at the park. I wanted to celebrate Shizuka’s welcome to our classroom in our school as she had just migrated from Japan and was studying in our school.
“Can we stop them?” Shizuka asked, terrified. “Leave them. Let’s have something to snack on first. I brought sandwiches and lemonade,” I replied, putting my bag on the park table.
I chatted with her for a moment or two and heard a loud yell. I turned my head to the south. There they go again. Jack had a bleeding nose. As for Tom, you might need no mention about him. He, as usual, was hit at the eye again and his eye was blue black. They fought non-stop for fifteen minutes. By that time, Shizuka and I have already taken a long stroll around the huge park already. I saw Tom and Jack lying on the floor, breathing heavily.
I kneeled beside them and said: “Well? Didn’t I tell you guys not to fight before we came here? It’s already late afternoon! Five o’ clock! Time to go,” “Wait! I might do…..with…some…..turkey sandwiches…and….cold lemonade…”Tom and Jack said, breathing hard.
I smiled. “Sorry, you both missed them. Now get up! Surely you both don’t want to miss the bus? Oh, it’s here! Shizuka, come on! You will miss it!” I said.
Shizuka and I climbed into the bus and the bus drove off after a short while. As for the two boys, well, they were left behind. Of course, they regretted fighting. Now, they missed the stroll around the park, the birds and eagles in the cages around the park, their favourite turkey and chicken sandwiches and cold, sweet, delicious lemonade! Jack and Tom tried to get up and limped towards the other side of the park to get their bags.
As they had missed the bus, they had to walk home. But their houses were far! Very far! Two miles away! What can they do? Take a taxi or ride a public bus? Walk, of course! They did not bring along with them enough money to pay the fare. Luckily, they managed to stop by Tom’s uncle’s cafe to take a break. Tom’s uncle was a fierce old man but very kind. He took them home by car and when the two mischievous boys returned home, the first thing they got was a terrifying scolding from their parents.
Yak, yak, yak, all night long. The two boys regretted fighting and telephoned each other to apologize. I was told what happened by Tom and I laughed. “How pathetic you guys are! See? Didn’t I tell you two not to fight? Now you want your share of your sandwiches and lemonade? Sorry, but they are gone. Good night!”
Well, that was that for the two boys. As for their bruises, well, they were dumb as ever and didn’t know how to cure them so the day after the next, they went to the school nurse to ask for medicine and advice! I didn’t know whether to laugh or to cry. It was all too unreal and funny. They did not fight after their bruises and wounds healed already, so I decided that it was enough.
So Shizuka and I brought them some hot turkey sandwiches and fresh, cold lemonade for them. They were extremely grateful. Well, they must have learnt their lesson. But somehow, I don’t think so. After the time I brought them their share, I heard they had started a fight again. Well, I guess it couldn’t be helped.
I wrote this short story by myself. Every time, I write short/long stories for my friends to read. It is fun to write. Besides, I am a bookworm too!
