I believe it.
When people are unhappy, things change. Whether it's for the best or the worst, things change.
After the Clinton years, if a black man had run for President (imagine in a 2008 setting where blacks are more equal, socially, than in 2000) he wouldn't have been elected, even if he was the perfect candidate. Why? He was too different, and we were coming off a Presidency that left us with a good economy, more social progress than before, etc.
In 2008, after we already had one bailout (that people forget about) and an economy that was starting to recede at an alarming rate, two wars that were going no where fast, a national debt that, at the time, was insane considering what it had been in 2000, yadda yadda, we wanted to break free. We have a rigid two-party system, so what do we do instead of electing an independent? We elect a half black man.

Honestly, about two months ago, I stopped caring completely about the government. I've already decided it's pointless, now that corporations are people and the people we get to pick for President now are always going to be, "who is the most expensive?" rather than "who is the most qualified?", we're going to continue to involve ourselves in other countries' business while our debt is skyrocketing (it's up to $15,770,685,085,364.14 as of the 31st), have candidates for the next Presidency saying s**t about how we need to go back to war with the Middle East, candidates who say electric cars are "unAmerican," a huge push from states against womens' rights and gay rights, etc. I'm done. I've stopped caring.

People don't understand that politics doesn't work like punishing a child for throwing a tantrum. If you punish a country too much and it has the means, it will rebel and it won't be good. People don't like other countries coming in and telling them what they HAVE to do and forcing them basically into poverty, especially when they felt they were wronged of victory in the first place. (Hell, people have enough trouble with their own governments telling them what to do.)

For example, what's going on with politics here in the USA is a good way to show how dumb people let s**t get when they aren't getting what they want; if a man like Rick Santorum, whose platform was basically, "******** gays and porn is what is destroying America!" can spend so long in primaries with a good amount of support, it's a reflection on how far people will go from the center to get what they want. With bad economies and governments not doing what their citizens want (mainly because of financial inability or poor bureaucracy), countries go to the extreme. The National Socialist Parties in several European countries are gaining widespread support and it's only going to get worse.

It only manifested so well and so perfectly with Germany because Germany was the only country that was suffering as badly as it was post-WWI.

But yeah... America, at the time, was in it for the money. The reason our economy was so strong still was really because of the fact that through Sweden and a few other countries, companies like IBM (who provided the Hollerith machines to Germany through Dehomag, which streamlined the Holocaust and the German war machine) were working in the Third Reich and thus were able to employ more Americans. It's really an interesting web I've put together from the many books, but I've yet to read a book that includes all of the information and illustrates the connection plainly.

Oh, anyone will tell you now that it was because of the Treaty that made Germans so accepting of the extreme because of how their economy was bouncing back under the Nazi party. Especially after so much political turmoil on top of economic turmoil during the in-between years.

I'm unhappy with America's involvement in the war, really. With all the books I've read regarding the Holocaust and the war outside of Germany, American companies' involvement in Nazi Germany, etc., I've decided that the only reason America joined the war was because the Third Reich was no longer lucrative for American companies (such as IBM). Knowing that the companies and our government wouldn't see any of the money once Germany lost if we weren't involved in recovery, we had to jump into the war. It had nothing to do with liberating concentration camps or pushing Germany back to reclaim lands for occupied countries. It was all about money.

But. Anyway. I'll go on for hours about this s**t. Just tell me to stop. lol

I figured Est-Quest would be French since it's a French word. c: Foreign films about the war are usually better to watch anyway because they aren't slanted with, "AMERICA IS GREAT. WE WON THE WAR FOR EVERYONE! WAR IS WONDERFUL!" propaganda.

Oh, I'm all about the life of people during WWII, not really about "oh look cool guns and bombs!" like a lot of guys. Most of the things I read about them are about the social and economic situations of different countries. c: I'll definitely look into them. Thank you.
