Chris pondered to himself silently at her inquiry of "monsters.." "Monsters?" He hoped that she hadn't had a brush-in with Clayface or Croc.. He just brushed that question off and began walking hand-in-hand with her down the sidewalk, keeping a watchful eye over their surroundings to insure that nothing or nobody would come and frighten her. Although, he didn't really have any control over this. He heard her speaking of a lady officer and tried to think of who she was talking about.. Renee? She had left long ago. As a matter of fact, no one was at the station. Everyone had left or was on call. He was on call, like always, but he would gladly stay up with this girl so she felt comfortable. "No, Renee went home. It's just going to be you and me, okay?" He chuckled down at her comfortingly. He spied some broken glass on the sidewalk and stopped her before she could walk in it. "Careful, Adella! I'll help you up.." Chris picked Adella up and put her onto his shoulders and kept a firm grasp on her legs to secure her in place.

Not long after walking like that, he had arrived up to the station and pull out his miniature ring of keys and unlocked the door. He had grasped that key so often, he pretty much did it by heart. He opened the heavy door and brought her inside before setting her down on the carpet and shutting the door. He locked it and escorted her over to the break room for some food. "Do you like fruit, muffins? I could probably make you something." He rooted around and waited for her response before breaking anything out for her.

Chris took this girl into close speculation.. She looked almost gaunt and pasty from famine and unrest. He noted her lack of shoes and simple clothing.. She looked like she had come from an asylum. Unbeknownst to him, he was more correct than he could have ever known at the time. To him, she looked like the product of an abusive household. He smiled softly and held out a hand to her in a friendly manner. He wanted to guide her to some place where she'd be safe. He didn't want to take her home just yet- for the child's sake. "What's your name? I'm Chris. I'm a policeman. I will take you home in the morning. For now, I want to get you out of here and over to the station to keep you safe, okay? See-," he showed off his Gotham City Private Eye badge and smiled back up at her in a consoling manner. "It's alright.. I will keep you safe. Please, come with me."

Whether she rejected his help or not, she was going to be coming with him back to the station. He'd feed her and let her sleep there for the night until parents came along to claim her. Before that, they were going to get a hot, steaming earful from Chris. If there was one thing he absolutely despised, it was a negligent parent.

Chris shoved his hands into his pocket with a small apprehension as to where he was. The rough side of town. Around the Toymaker's residence, to be specific. Authorities typically avoid this part of town because it had fallen to s**t all over again. He had had a hand in cleaning it up, and it all came right back down on his face again when nobody would take charge of keeping the changes in place. He was just heading back to his apartment and he flicked his butt into the storm drain and it extinguished immediately. He had gone on for quite a while before a little, cowering figure caught his eye..

A girl? This late at night. This had "catastrophe" written all over it. He looked over at the girl from a distance and cautiously made his way over to her. He came within earshot and called out to her in a paternal tone of voice, "Excuse me.. Little girl? What are you doing out here at this time of night? It's really not safe." He slowly approached the girl like one would approach a wounded and cornered animal. He had a soft spot for children. Most likely to make up for his stolen chance at becoming a father. He soon knelt down not too far away from her to make height difference less daunting.
