Sango is a Taijiya (demon slayer) from the village where the Shikon jewel was created, the Slayers Village. She lived happily with her father and her younger brother Kohaku. Her father was the head demon slayer and she was one of the best. Kohaku, at age eleven, was just learning the art of demon slaying. He was good at using the sickle chain, his main wepon, but he was a timid child. On the day of his first mission, the best demon slayers were called to a castle to slay a giant spider demon. Sango, her father, Kohaku, and about five other Taijiyas went to the castle.
With the best demon slayers gone, the villages defenses were thin. Shortly after arriving to the castle, the demon made his appearence. It was large, but it didn't seem to hard to slay. During the battle Kohaku became posessed by the demon Naraku. Naraku was one of the most powerful and evil demons in existance. He forced Kohaku to slaughter his and Sango's father and the rest of the taijiyas there. He was supposed to slay his sister too, but she didn't die after being hit in the back with his wepon. After that, he reverted back to himself and realized what he had done. He was shot with arrows by the people of the village and Sango, while trying to comfort him, was shot as well. They were burried in the castle's garden along with their fallen comrads. Sango didn't die as planned; after being unconsious for the rest of the day, she dug her way out of the shallow grave. She was taken in by the castle's suspicious young lord. He treated her injuries and told her that the Slayers Village was attacked by demons while she was gone. He said there were no survivors, and the one who led the attack was a half demon named InuYasha. Sango traveled with Naraku, a demon that she thought was just a village man, to hunt down InuYasha. The pain from her injuries was too much for her to walk, let alone fight, so Naraku gave her a shikon shard to supress it. After finding InuYasha, Sango tried to fight him to the death. With Naraku keeping InuYasha's companions away from the fight, it was hard for InuYasha to convince Sango that she has been lied to. Because of her injuries, Sango became weak early into the battle and InuYasha was eventually able to explain to her that Naraku was the one responsible for the slaughter of her village. After the fight finally ended, Sango passed out and InuYasha took her with him and his group. She was later reunited with Kirara and swore vengence against Naraku for the slaghter of her people. Naraku later took control of Sango's brother, Kohaku. He implanted a Shikon shard in his back to bring him back from the dead. He uses Kohaku as a wepon against InuYasha and his group because they can't harm him. InuYasha, a powerful half-demon; Kagome, a young priestess from the future; Miroku, a perverted monk (Who Sango has developed strong feelings for); Shippo, a young fox demon, Sango, the demon slayer; and her cat demon, Kirara are all in search of Naraku to get revenge and retrieve the shards of the Shikon Jewel. They travel together and help people on their way to the castle housing Naraku and his evil incarnations.
