I thought the acting was a little ridiculous at parts, but if you get past that I thought the movie was pretty cute.

Thanks! I actually asked someone for an invo tektek to help put it together.
Yeah, I liked it a lot. I liked it more for the idea of a character like Negishi -or anyone being so not metal- ending up in a metal band. I found certain scenes hilarious along with the whole metal-parody feel of it and liked to see all the circumstances Negishi ended up in, but I do remember that the plot was a bit lacking in the anime.
The movie, I feel, did a better job of putting a plot together along with a nice closure.
