Yep, I'm going to go back to work. I'm even being promoted from just a courtesy clerk (bagger/errand boy) to a full-blown checkout clerk, so although I won't work as much, mostly working weekends, I'll be paid more. I'm also planning to commute to campus twice a week to continue volunteering at the lab. I've found ways to take public transportation from my hometown to the school.

Just a year ago, I never thought I'd make it out on time. Probation seemed like an insurmountable obstacle and I was utterly terrified of retaking my physiology class. I had come away with the impression that was apocalyptically hard. (It's not that hard, really, but it was close.) To be honest, I had been tempted, for a while, to just quit volunteering, keep in touch with the professor through email, and simply go back to work 40 hours a week like I used to. I never thought I'd be tired of being a school boy, but 4 years at this place seems to have done the trick - at least, temporarily.

I'm not completely done. I've still got some more tests to take - the Graduate Record Exams or GREs, the standardized tests used in the college admissions process. After I deal with that this summer, I'll begin the college application process all over again.

Guess what? I passed my physiology course - albeit barely. So I did it. I beat the odds and graduated on time despite my academic trouble last year. However, I am going to pull the plug on my modem today so that I can return it to Comcast, and therefore may not be able to respond well on the Internet until I get set up back at home tomorrow or the day after. However, the 3 journal entries I just left say pretty much all I could ever want to say about college, so you can always have fun reading those if you want to get a glimpse into the mind of a college graduate. I'll just warn you, though, they're more like memoirs than blogs, so they're a bit long.

Well, the stuff I do is definitely very interesting. And I do admit, I like lab work, and it's rewarding at the end of the semester when everything is over and done with and I'm ready to move onto the next thing. Unfortunately, things do not always turn out as well as you want them to... for example my screwing up my physiology course last semester. I am still facing the consequences from that, as I am repeating the course this semester and had better pass it. Not only that, that screw up landed me in academic probation. Not pretty. >_<;;

That's okay - I have been quite busy as well... this semester should be my last one at U.C. Berkeley. If I don't screw things up, I should be graduating in mid-May. But unfortunately, I'm a science major... I still have a lot of work to do, and I'm also continuing my laboratory training. Not only that, I have to start thinking about what the heck I'm going to be doing when I'm out of school as well - I'm trying to find some kind of lab job on or near campus that would allow me to stay here while I get ready for graduate school applications. So don't worry about it - I've got a lot on my shoulders as well. I'm glad to hear that things are going well with your girlfriend. ^_^

Oh, and by the way, in case you were wondering why I designed my avvie this way, this is who I modeled him on: Big Boss, the villain of Metal Gear 1 and 2, and later hero of the prequels Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, as a young black ops soldier going under the code name "Naked Snake." We don't entirely know his real name; we just know that his given name is John, and his friends call him "Jack." The main character of the entire game series, Solid Snake, is his cloned son, and he is regarded as the greatest soldier of the 20th century.

This is Big Boss as an elderly man, the way we see him in MG1, MG2, and the very end of Metal Gear Solid 4:
