Well it depends,
If you're really confident into you're work, You could.
But because you're a newbie, I don't wanna say "oh, Sell cheap.!" because then you wouldn't make any work, but have really decent prices that vary with the different types of work.
If you want help with like banners and stuff, or getting the word out that's what I'm here for ^_^

Well, you can play games, do The Daily Chance, Fish, if you have any items worth selling, go into the Market Place and sell them for around the price that's listed as 'lowest sell price'. But when you surf gaia, post things, and creating topics. etc. You earn gold from 2 to 100.
