Once upon a time, there was a girl. The girl was madly in love with her neighbor. She was always looming around his door, waiting for a chance to see him again. The boy knew the girl had a crush on him, and he had to say, the girl was very nice and very pretty too.

But one day, at a beautiful park, he met the prettiest girl of them all. Her hair was yellow, like wheat, and her eyes were as blue as the ocean. The boy started talking to the beautiful girl, and he could tell she liked him too. They met every day, wandering through the park, sitting by the river, just doing nice stuff.

The girl from the neighbors noticed that he wasn't around as much as he had been before and she saw him leave every day at the same time. So one day, she decided to follow him. She followed him to the park, where she saw the girl with yellow hair sitting. As soon as she saw the boy, she stood up, ran over to him and kissed him on the lips. The forgotten girl was heartbroken.

During the spring, the boy fell more and more in love with his girl with yellow hair. He barely noticed the neighbor girl with her auburn curls anymore. And on one day, he finally proposed to his love. She accepted, and they married in the summer. The girl with auburn curls came to the wedding because the boy still was her friend, but just before they came to the 'I do' part, she left, unable to sit there and watch the man of her dreams saying his vows to another woman.

In the autumn, the news the girl with auburn curls dreaded came. The boy and his wife were expecting a baby. They were so happy, the girl couldn't do anything else then pretend she was happy for them. But as soon as the married couple had left, her emotions were set loose. She cried and cried, until finally, she had no more tears to shed. She took a knife, and was about to slit her wrist when her father came in. He took the knife away from her, furious at his own daughter for trying to take her life, instead of being worried why she would do such a thing. The girl, afraid as she was of her own father, promised him that she would never do such a foolish thing again.

At the end of the next spring, there was nothing left of the personality of the girl. All she did was take orders all day, and go to bed to stand up the morning after to take orders again. It was a non stopping cycle. And then the baby came. The boy and his wife didn't even come and show the baby girl to her. Even after thinking she didn't have a heart anymore, she still felt it breaking all over again. The wedded couple was of course very happy with the baby.

And then, all of a sudden, the girls father died. She was left all alone, since her mother had already died when she was still young. And suddenly the girl had to take care of everything. Getting food on the table, earning money running the pie shop, and she did. She managed on herself. She took pride in thinking that she could survive on her own.

And then the day came that the boy's wife came rushing into her shop, crying. She said that they had taken her husband, that they had accused him of some awful crime. As much as the girl hated the wife, she still felt sorry for her. She went with her to the courthouse on the day of his conviction, and held her hand while the jury read out the final judgment.

Banned to devil's island, Australia, it said.

Both women were devastated. The boy was going to be shipped off to Australia. There wasn't a single person who had come back, or at least, alive. The wife was literally a wreck and couldn't eat, sleap, or hold a conversation anymore.

On the day that the boy was going to be shipped away, the wife wouldn't come to the harbor. The girl did come. She looked the boy in his eyes and told hi
